Stove flue pipe: which product the name means

Updated: October 2026

You are in the lounge with a stove brochure in one hand and an amazon.co.uk search for stove pipe in the other. The first result in this scrape is plastic. A stove flue pipe, meaning the connector from a wood or multi-fuel stove to the chimney, is only one of three products in that list. This page makes the fork before you choose a model. Prices for all twelve listings sit on our [stove pipe comparison](/hub/fireplaces-and-stoves/stove-pipe). We read those listings on 15 October 2026 with Approved Document J, and we did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Three products share the name

This amazon.co.uk list mixes a decorative plastic pipe, a steel connector, and short tube for a tent stove. Only the connector is a house flue. Dimplex was rank 1 here, at about £35, with 4.6 from 735 reviews, for the look on electric stoves such as the Grand Rouge and the Club. The Adam angle is about £25.96 and the straight Adam pipe about £26.50. Each listing stays on an electric stove. Fit is on our stove pipe for an electric stove page. The house length is StoveMaestro, 500 mm by 5 inch, about £29.99. Camping rows are mostly about 60 mm. Outlet size is on our 5 inch or 6 inch flue pipe page.

What a house connector has to show

Approved Document J, paragraph 1.32, accepts cast iron to BS 41, metal pipe to BS EN 1856-2, vitreous enamel to BS 6999:1989, or another pipe designated for the appliance. Inside the room, the usual connector is vitreous enamel or single-wall stainless. Plastic systems belong with low-temperature condensing appliances. A wood stove is outside that group. The StoveMaestro listing prints 500 mm and 5 inch, and not a British Standard, an enamel claim, or a clearance. Do not treat it as certified enamel. Ask for the designation before you fit it. A 125 mm by 500 mm vitreous pipe at another UK shop, not an ASIN here, was £32.95 including VAT.

What you can spend in this set

The low band, about £12 to £20, is camping tube, including a 75 mm elbow at about £11.79 with a stated weight of 9 g. The middle band, about £26 to £35, holds the plastic pipes and the 5 inch saver length at about £29.99. A lower price in that band is not a better flue. About £29.99 buys a straight 5 inch piece only if the outlet and Table 2 agree and you can still get the missing designation. About £35 buys two Dimplex heights for an electric stove. Other shops have listed 125 mm by 500 mm vitreous lengths at about £23 to £36. This set has no twin-wall price.

What should be printed before you pay

Single-wall pipe stays in the room. Twin wall to BS EN 1856-1 is what passes through a ceiling, floor, wall, or roof, and this scrape has no twin-wall kit. A 5 inch length belongs on a 5 inch collar only when that stove is allowed a 125 mm flue. A 6 inch collar needs 150 mm. If the fire has a plug, you are buying a plastic shape. If the collar is about 60 mm, you are buying camping tube. If the run leaves the room, stop. How the joints face, and where you call an installer, is on our how to install stove pipe page.

Common questions

Is a stove pipe the same as a flue?
A stove pipe is a flue when it connects a solid-fuel stove to a chimney and the material is one Approved Document J accepts. On amazon.co.uk the same words also cover plastic shapes for electric stoves and stainless tube around 60 mm for camping. Read the appliance line before you treat the title as a house connector.
Do I need vitreous enamel or stainless steel?
Inside the room, the usual connecting pipes are vitreous enamel or single-wall stainless. Document J also accepts cast iron to BS 41 and metal pipe to BS EN 1856-2, and enamel to BS 6999:1989 is one named route. The pipe still has to be designated for the appliance. The StoveMaestro listing in this set names neither enamel nor a stainless grade, so the black finish on the title is not a standard.
Can I buy the pipe before I know the stove outlet?
Inside the room, the usual connecting pipes are vitreous enamel or single-wall stainless. Document J also accepts cast iron to BS 41, metal pipe to BS EN 1856-2, and enamel to BS 6999:1989. The pipe still has to be designated for the appliance. The StoveMaestro listing names neither enamel nor a stainless grade.
When is twin wall the pipe I should buy instead?
Twin wall is the system that passes through a ceiling, floor, wall, or roof. Single-wall pipe is the connector in the same room as the stove. If the run has to leave the room, you are past a single saver length. This Amazon set does not include a twin-wall kit, and there is no twin-wall price here to quote. A new route through the building is work for a HETAS-registered installer or building control.
Are the cheap stainless sets for a house stove?
The sets around £12 to £20 in this scrape are about 60 mm or 75 mm. A normal house wood stove needs 125 mm or 150 mm, and the pipe must be at least as large as the outlet. A UK review on one 60 mm set mentions a small wood stove. That comment leaves the listed bore at 60 mm. Keep those sets for a camping stove whose own outlet is that size.
