Stove glass cleaner spray vs pad

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are down to two products UK stove owners argue about: a bottle that foams, and a dry steel pad that never wets the rope. Stove glass cleaner spray vs pad turns on the film on the glass and the sentence in your manual. Light soot on uncoated glass can be a pad, if mesh is allowed. Sticky tar can be a spray, if a chemical is allowed. A coated panel is neither as a default. The two formats in this set

The dry side is two pads. Trollull B09R4LLSRP is about £8.00, 4.3 from 584, two pads used dry. RAKSO B005LD3DJG is about £6.70, 4.3 from 5,180. RAKSO's bullets copy Trollull's text, and the brand field is still RAKSO. The twin B0CLRLR662 is about £17.98, 4.5 from 5,571, model 431050106. The foam twin B07KSX5SD3 is about £17.43, 4.6 from 234. HG's UK page says 3 to 5 minutes, cold or lukewarm, and do not let the liquid run.

When a dry pad is the better fit

A dry pad fits light soot on a cold morning, on uncoated glass, when the manual allows mesh. There is no liquid to creep into the rope. UK pad reviews in this set praise that daily wipe and complain about baked corners. SCHOTT's wiper is used dry on uncoated panels only. Trollull's pages say the pad suits all stove glass. SCHOTT and Charnwood do not. Charnwood's Bay instructions say abrasive pads can weaken the glass. If the booklet bans abrasives, the pad loses before you open the packet.

When a spray or foam is the better fit

A spray or foam fits when a pad has left sticky tar and the manual allows a chemical. UK reviews describe foam that lifts tar, and the same reviews describe gloves, leaks and foam that slides off within seconds. Wipe at 3 to 5 minutes and do not let the liquid run. The cold-door order is how to clean wood burner glass. A 4.6 from 234 is not a larger test than 4.5 from 5,571. The code-431 sheet classes that mixture as corrosive. One RAKSO review says the pad works better with a spray. That is one review, not a method for coated glass.

When you should buy neither first

If the panel is coated, SCHOTT's route is a soft cloth and a window cleaner, not a steel pad and not a default foam. If the manual forbids abrasive pads, as Charnwood's Bay booklet does, Trollull and RAKSO are the wrong basket even at about £6.70. If it also restricts strong chemicals, the HG twin is the wrong basket at about £17.98. If the glass is black again after a careful wipe, wet fuel, a closed airwash or logs against the glass are the cause. Use a dry pad for light soot when mesh is allowed, and a spray or foam for sticky tar when a chemical is allowed.

Common questions

Which one for light soot every morning?
The dry pad, if the manual allows mesh and the glass is uncoated. RAKSO at about £6.70 or Trollull at about £8.00 keeps liquid off the rope and matches a light film. SCHOTT's wiper is used dry and is not for coatings. A spray every morning adds run-off you do not need for soot that a pad will lift. If the manual bans abrasives, do not keep a steel pad by the stove for the light days.
Which one for tar that a pad leaves behind?
The spray or foam, if a chemical is allowed. The HG twin at about £17.98 has the deep sample, 4.5 from 5,571, and HG's dwell is 3 to 5 minutes on cold or lukewarm glass. UK reviews credit it with tar and complain about foam that runs. The foam twin at about £17.43 has a higher star and only 234 reviews. Catch the drip. A pad that has already failed on that corner will not succeed because you press harder.
Will the pad scratch?
It might, and a scratch-free claim does not close the question. Trollull says extra-fine wool, used dry, is scratch-free. Charnwood says abrasive pads can weaken the glass. SCHOTT bars scouring pads on coated faces and limits the dry wiper to uncoated glass. Scratches hold the next soot. Reviews in this capture that report no mark are not a waiver of your manual. If the booklet bans mesh, assume the pad can harm the pane.
Why does the spray run off?
Because foam is liquid, and HG tells you not to let it run. UK reviews on the HG listings say it can slide off within seconds, especially if you spray too much. The glass is vertical. Use a small amount, protect the rope with a cloth at the bottom, and wipe inside 3 to 5 minutes. Gloves belong with a corrosive mixture, which is how the code-431 sheet classes that HG product. More foam is not a fix for foam that is already moving.
Can I use both, spray then pad?
One RAKSO review says the pad works better with a spray. That is one review, not a method, and do not do it on coated glass. If you combine them, the spray is for tar the pad left, the glass is cold and uncoated, and the manual allows both a chemical and mesh. Do not drag dry steel through a pool of foam, and do not let either product soak the rope. For a light daily film, the pad alone is the cleaner routine.
