Stove glass cleaner buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

The door is black after a week of fires, and the amazon.co.uk results mix steel pads, foam, cream and small sprays that all claim to clear stove glass. A stove glass cleaner buying guide is the order of checks that stops a star score choosing for you: what the pane actually is, which format your manual allows, and whether the listing fields match the bottle. Prices for all twelve captures sit on the [fireplace glass cleaner comparison](/hub/fireplaces-and-stoves/fireplace-glass-cleaner). Peter F., 21 October 2026. This is not a lab test. What you are cleaning

The pane in a modern wood burner is ceramic glass, the kind SCHOTT sells as ROBAX, not a kitchen window you can scour. Once it is fully cool, SCHOTT's UK notes split the job. Uncoated glass can take a dry wiper. A coated face gets a soft cloth and a window cleaner, not a scouring pad. Trollull calls its extra-fine steel wool scratch-free when used dry. Charnwood's Bay instructions forbid abrasive pads. If your booklet agrees, RAKSO at about £6.70 and Trollull at about £8.00 are the wrong format. SCHOTT also limits its dry wiper to uncoated panels.

Four formats in this amazon.co.uk set

A dry pad keeps liquid off the rope and suits light soot, if mesh is allowed. RAKSO B005LD3DJG is about £6.70, 4.3 from 5,180 reviews. Trollull B09R4LLSRP is about £8.00, 4.3 from 584, two pads used dry, with no cleaning agent. A spray or foam is the route for sticky tar. HG's UK page says leave it 3 to 5 minutes on cold or lukewarm glass, and do not let the liquid run. It rules out marble, untreated aluminium and plastic. The deepest chemical sample is HG twin B0CLRLR662 at about £17.98, 4.5 from 5,571, model 431050106. The code-431 safety data sheet classes that mixture as corrosive. A non-toxic bullet does not outrank the bottle.

Listing traps

Brand fields do not always match the title. B01M1RE9GH carries an HG title and a Luckduck brand field. Model 431050106 on the twin is a more useful check than the word HG alone. JAZUAIAO, Wiffe and B0HGXT158J have no rating line. A spray near £4 whose reviews are tagged to Spain is a shelf price, not UK proof. An Asevi row disagrees between 475 ml and 500 ml, and a generic row disagrees between 4.1 fl oz, 120 ml and a table that says 1 g. If the title and the table disagree, believe neither until the bottle matches one of them.

A five-point check before you order

If abrasive pads are banned, or the panel is coated, leave the steel pads. If a chemical is banned, leave the spray. The glass must be cold or, for the HG method, no warmer than lukewarm, and the rope has to stay dry. A twin near £18 is a different buy from pads near £7 to £8. RAKSO's 5,180 reviews and the HG twin's 5,571 are deep. A missing rating line is not a quiet bargain. If a pad and a bottle both stay open, the spray or dry pad page is the next read.

Common questions

Spray, foam, cream, or a dry pad?
Choose the format your stove manual allows, then the job on the glass. A dry pad, such as RAKSO at about £6.70 or Trollull at about £8.00, suits light soot on uncoated glass when mesh is permitted. A spray or foam, such as the HG twin at about £17.98, is the chemical option for sticky tar, with a 3 to 5 minute wait on cold or lukewarm glass. A small generic spray with no rating line is not the same purchase.
Will a steel-wool pad scratch ceramic glass?
Trollull says its extra-fine pad is scratch-free when used dry. That is a manufacturer claim, not a test of your door. Charnwood's Bay instructions tell you not to use abrasive pads. SCHOTT limits a dry wiper to uncoated ROBAX and sends coated glass to a soft cloth and window cleaner. If the manual bans mesh, the pad is the wrong buy.
What if the glass is coated?
Treat a coating as a ban on scouring, not as a lighter sort of soot. SCHOTT's guidance for coated ROBAX is a soft cloth and a window cleaner once the panel is cool, and the dry wiper is for uncoated glass only. A steel pad sold as suitable for all stove glass does not repeat that split. If you cannot tell whether your door is coated, the manual or the stove maker is the source, not the Amazon title.
Is a non-toxic bullet the same as the hazard label?
A non-toxic line in the listing is a field a seller typed. The safety data sheet for HG code 431 classes that mixture as corrosive, which is a different statement from a marketing bullet. The sheet is not the label on every product whose title says HG, so you still read the bottle that arrives. Gloves and ventilation follow that label. The bullet does not cancel the sheet.
Why do two HG titles show different brand fields?
The brand cell and the title are filled separately, and they can clash. In this capture B01M1RE9GH is titled as HG and filed under Luckduck. Another row can show HG in the brand field with model 431050106 on the twin pack B0CLRLR662. You are not looking at one product twice. Check the brand field, the model and the pack size together, and do not assume two HG titles are the same 500 ml bottle.
