Natural stone adhesive: which chemistry you actually need

Updated: 23 October 2026

You searched for a natural stone adhesive because something in the house or garden is stone, and the results treat a floor, a chip and a gravel border as the same purchase. They are not. A limestone tile that drinks water from a grey cement bed is a different problem from a snapped stone pot, and both are different from pea gravel leaving a front bed. This page is the decision tree before any star rating. The [natural stone adhesive comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/natural-stone-adhesive) lists the seven amazon.co.uk products, with GBP prices and the review counts on those listings. What a bedding adhesive has to say on the bag

For a stone tile, the useful line on a bag is a BS EN 12004 class, not the word stone. ARDEX X 32 prints C2 FTE S1, a bed of about 3–30 mm, grouting after about three hours at 20°C, and external use and pools. Those sentences stay with that product. A grey cement bed under pale marble or light limestone can shadow the stone. Weber and Natural Stone Online both say use a white cement-based powdered adhesive. BSI points stone floors at BS 5385-3:2024, and a slow water-rich bed is the combination to avoid under marble or limestone. ARDEX S 27 W is internal and dry-area only on the manufacturer page. The Tile Association describes ready-mixed adhesives for walls and a thin bed of about 3 mm, not as a general floor adhesive.

What these amazon.co.uk listings do and do not state

None of the seven listings prints a BS EN 12004 class, so stars cannot finish the choice. Zynthor at £7.99, 4.6 from 29 reviews, ranks in Super Glue and sets in about 30–60 seconds. The binders are NBOFOL at £7.99 (2.2 from six), YumCraft at £11.99 (3.6 from 12), SomVibes at £15.99 (4.1 from 10) and Houbobo at £16.89 (one 4.0 review). Harbro Stonebond at £18.95 is knife-grade polyester for marble, granite, onyx and travertine, with no customer-review line. LEVEL PLUS RM12, 3 kg at £12.76 and 4.3 from 94, says interior and exterior stone. Its written reviews are from Germany and France, and it still has no EN class. It is not a rapid white cement bag for moisture-sensitive marble.

The bag you will not find in this set

A marble, limestone or granite floor wants a 20 kg bag from a tile merchant, not one of these seven rows. ARDEX X 32 shows the shape: a printed class, a stated bed, a grout time, and an external and pool claim. Britflex Rapidset S1 is the same idea in another bag: white or grey, a stated bed, a short grout window, interior and exterior. We are not ranking those bags and we are not inventing a shop price. Hire a tiler when the floor is large, heated, wet or uncalibrated. A solid-bed description does not cover movement joints, wet-room falls. A chip or a gravel border does not need that bag.

Common questions

Do I need a white adhesive under marble or limestone?
For pale marble and light limestone, yes, if you are bedding tiles. Weber and Natural Stone Online both say a grey cement bed can shadow or stain those stones. White is the bed colour, not the grout colour. A ready-mixed tub listed as white is not the same as a white rapid cement adhesive.
What does C2 FTE S1 mean, and which packs here show it?
It is a BS EN 12004 string: improved cement (C2), fast (F), reduced slip (T), extended open time (E), deformable (S1). ARDEX prints it on X 32, with a bed of about 3–30 mm. None of the seven listings prints that class. A frost-resistant bullet is not a substitute.
Is a gravel binder the same purchase as a tile adhesive?
No. A binder coats pebbles or bark that are already loose. A tile adhesive beds a slab onto a background. SomVibes, YumCraft, Houbobo and NBOFOL are the binder rows here. One under a limestone tile is not a solid bed, and RM12 will not lock a path.
When is polyester the right buy instead?
When you are filling a chip or an edge in marble, granite, onyx or travertine, and you need a paste that stays on a vertical face. Harbro Stonebond is that type in this set: knife grade, resin and hardener, £18.95, with no review line and no set time on the listing. It is the wrong buy for a floor and for loose gravel. Thin super glue is only for a closed joint.
When do I stop and hire a tiler?
Hire one for a stone floor that is wet, heated, external or made of slabs that vary in thickness, and for any pool or show edge. Also stop if the stone has already taken a grey stain. A chip or a small border can stay DIY if the chemistry matches.
