Best grab adhesive for the job in front of you

Updated: 23 October 2026

Five amazon.co.uk listings all look like the best grab adhesive, and the star lines sit between 4.3 and 4.6. That spread does not tell you which tube to skip. A 4.6 on an interior acrylic is a poor answer if the wall is damp, sealed or outside. This page assigns each kept listing to a job and names who should buy a different one. Prices and ratings were captured on 19 October 2026. We did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. No single best cartridge

Best here means best for a named job inside this set. Dry plaster and a light board point one way. A damp face, a plastic panel or outdoor trim points another. A short repair with no sealant gun points to a tube. Initial tack is not full strength. Henkel quotes 24–48 hours. Evo-Stik separates about 15 minutes from full strength at 24 hours, while Amazon’s cure field prints only 15 minutes. An evaporation paste needs one porous face. A hybrid is sold for damp and for faces that do not breathe. That split is water-based vs hybrid grab adhesive.

Dry plaster and skirting

For dry interior trim on plaster or bare timber, the top pick is UniBond No More Nails Original, two 280 ml cartridges at about £9.86, rated 4.6 from 421 reviews. The listing says solvent-free and interior, and that one surface must be porous because the paste dries by evaporation. The cure field is 24 hours. Reviewers use it on skirting and dado. A heavy piece needed longer holding. Skip it for outside, two sealed faces, and mirrors: Henkel’s sheet excludes mirrors. The other interior pack is 151 Hard As Nails at about £7.18, rated 4.6 from 302 reviews. The bullets name skirting, architrave, plasterboard and polystyrene coving, with one porous surface, and they say it dries white and can be painted when dry. Several reviews say the grab is thin and that boards needed screws. One paste was still not dry after three days. How pins sit on a long board is grab adhesive for skirting boards.

Damp faces and outside

When damp and exterior claims are the point, the pick is Evo-Stik Seriously Strong Stuff, one 290 ml cartridge at about £6.49, rated 4.5 from 117 reviews. The bullets say it can hold 300 kg/m² after 15 minutes, that it sticks to damp surfaces, and that it is for interior and exterior use, including mirrors. Reviewers report a mirror on tile and plastic on metal after other pastes failed. Several packs arrived with no nozzle. Do not add 300 kg/m² to a Wickes line of up to 8 kg unsupported. The 151 exterior three-pack, about £6.75 for a stated 840 ml and 4.5 from 1,276 reviews, is the best value on price per stated millilitre. The listing does not call it a hybrid. Pieces slip, the paste is very thick, and one review failed brick to tarmac. The colour field says Clear, which is not confirmed as a clear paste. On dry absorbent plaster, the UniBond pack is the simpler match.

A tube for small jobs

The 151 Hard As Nails tube is 180 ml at about £3.87, rated 4.3 from 242 reviews, and it needs no gun. The screw cap kept an opened tube usable for months. The listing says interior bonding, one porous surface, 24–48 hours, and support for longer or heavier skirting. Skip it for a room of boards and for a bathroom mirror: mirror is only a specific-uses field, with no method. A run of skirting belongs on the UniBond two-pack or the 151 interior three-pack, with a pin or a prop.

Common questions

Which of these is best for skirting?
For dry plaster or plasterboard with one porous face, UniBond No More Nails Original at about £9.86 is the top pick in this set. Reviewers used it on skirting and dado, and the cure field is 24 hours. The 151 interior three-pack at about £7.18 names the same trim and is paintable when dry, though reviews often needed screws because the grab was thin. Neither pack replaces a pin on a long or sprung board. A painted, non-porous wall is a different paste.
Which one is actually for outside?
Evo-Stik Seriously Strong Stuff at about £6.49 says interior and exterior, damp surfaces and waterproof. The 151 exterior three-pack at about £6.75 is titled exterior and waterproof, with 1,276 reviews, and it is not identified as a hybrid on the listing. UniBond and the 151 interior pack are interior. Water resistant on those interior listings is not an outdoor specification. None of them states a minimum outdoor temperature you can treat as a test.
Do I need the hybrid if the wall is bare plaster?
No, not for a dry interior board on bare plaster or bare plasterboard. That is the job the water-based acrylic is sold for, and in this set that is UniBond. Buy Evo-Stik Seriously Strong Stuff when a face is sealed, damp or outside, or when the listing’s mirror line is the job. On bare plaster the hybrid’s missing-nozzle reviews are a cost you do not need to pay.
Why do reviews say it is not instant if the title says instant?
Instant on these cartridges means initial tack, not a cured joint. Reviewers on the 151 packs describe slippage and holding the piece. A heavy UniBond job needed longer support. Evo-Stik’s own page puts full strength at 24 hours even where a 15-minute figure appears. Load the joint only after the time on the cartridge you opened, and prop anything long or heavy in the meantime.
What should I skip for a mirror?
Skip UniBond No More Nails Original. Henkel’s sheet says it is not for mirrors, and the two-pack listing does not claim them. Skip the 180 ml 151 tube as well: mirror is only a specific-uses field, with no method. Evo-Stik Seriously Strong Stuff does name mirrors, and one review kept a heavy mirror on tile for months. A large mirror, or any mirror you cannot support while it cures, should go to a fitter.
