Beko food grade silicone

Updated: 23 October 2026

The kettle spout has split, the fridge gasket has a gap, and the clear cartridge says food safe. Beko food grade silicone here means food line 22701, ASIN B004XT4ETC, 310 ml, transparent, £15.80 on 19 October 2026. It is an acetate sealant for a joint that can touch food after it has cured. It is not permission to use the bead while it is wet, and it is not a bathroom sealant. The [Beko silicone comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/beko-silicone) lists it beside Pro4, PSS and the fire line. Peter F. used that listing, the December 2021 food leaflet and the UK food-contact rules, not a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What food grade means on this cartridge

The listing cites EU Regulation No. 1935/2004 and says the sealant is taste-neutral after curing. Article 3, assimilated in Great Britain, says a material should not transfer constituents to food in quantities that endanger health, change the food, or worsen it so you can taste or smell it. The Food Standards Agency’s authorisation lists do not include a positive list for silicone sealant. A line on the cartridge is the maker’s claim, not a Declaration of Compliance in your drawer. The leaflet cites an ISEGA test and describes kitchens, storage, cold rooms and, in the maker’s wording, the drinking-water area. This page will not turn that wording into a UK drinking-water approval. BS EN 15651-3 excludes food contact, so a bathroom XS1 mark would not have made this tube food-safe either. Use the bead only once it has cured and the smell has gone. The how to apply page covers the gun and the backer. This cartridge cures at about 2 mm a day.

Acetoxy limits

22701 is acetate-curing, so you smell vinegar while it skins. GOV.UK treats household-level acetic acid as an irritant vapour. Ventilate, and do not sleep next to a long fresh bead. One reviewer noticed the smell for almost a week, longer than the skin time of about 5 to 10 minutes. Skin is when you stop tooling. It is not when the joint is taste-neutral. The leaflet bars galvanised steel and non-ferrous metals, including copper and brass. If the joint is a metal window beside a food room, look at neutral Pro4 without treating Pro4 as the food-contact cartridge. 22701 is not fungicidal, so a clear shower joint will mould. Service temperature on the sheet is about −50 °C to +180 °C, which covers a kettle and a cold room, not the inside of a pizza oven. Unopened shelf life is about 12 months if you keep it dry between about +5 °C and +30 °C.

What the Amazon listing and the reviews add

The listing shows 4.6 from 384 ratings at £15.80, the strongest star line in this set. Movement is max. 25%. Surfaces named include foam, glass, plastic and rubber. Reviewers used it on fridge gaskets, a hole in a fridge, a hob gasket, a kettle spout and a dishwasher edge. One kettle repair was still holding after more than a year. The bead peeled off a coated trough, and it came loose at a sink after about a year. The nozzle blocks once the cartridge is opened. Several comments are not written as British kitchen diaries, so do not quote 4.6 as a UK test score. The listing also says waterproof in the bullets and not water resistant in the attribute row. Treat water resistance as unconfirmed, and do not fill a tank or an aquarium from that clash.

When to choose Pro4 instead

Choose Pro4, not 22701, for a bathroom, a window, a natural-stone edge or any joint you might paint. Pro4 is not the food-contact product and it is not paintable. The colour cartridges are £14.99 with no star line. Silver grey is the best value when the job is a frame rather than a fridge. The buying guide is that split. Choose a different food-grade sealant when the vinegar smell is the problem or the joint is on copper, brass or galvanised metal. UK competitors often advertise a neutral cure for food areas. That is a buying difference, not a tested ranking. 22701 remains the Beko cartridge with the 1935/2004 sentence and the acetate limits. Call a professional for a commercial kitchen drain, a drinking-water install you are treating as approved, or a leak into a floor.

Common questions

Can it touch food the same day?
No. The listing says taste-neutral after curing, and the cure is about 2 mm a day. The vinegar smell can last several days, in one review almost a week. Keep food off the joint until it has cured and the smell has gone.
Is it mould resistant?
The leaflet says it is not fungicidal. Do not use it as a shower or bath seal. A clear bead in a wet room is not a sanitary silicone, whatever the star rating.
Can it seal a galvanised or copper pipe?
No. The food leaflet excludes galvanised and non-ferrous metals. Copper and brass fall on the wrong side of that line. Use a neutral-cure sealant for those metals, and do not assume that sealant is food-contact approved.
The listing says both waterproof and not water resistant. Which is it?
Both lines are on the amazon.co.uk listing. The bullets say waterproof and the water-resistance attribute says not water resistant. There is no basis here for choosing one and ignoring the other. Read the cartridge, and do not rely on this page to call it a tank sealant.
Will it glue a broken chair or a screen?
The reviews say no. Joints glued that way came apart. It is a sealant for a gap, with about 25% movement, not a structural adhesive. A thin gasket repair is a different job from sticking two broken parts together.
Is this the right cartridge for a shower because it is clear?
No. Clear is the food-line colour. Showers need a fungicidal sanitary sealant. PSS or a fungicidal Pro4 is the Beko side of that choice. 22701 will not stop mould in a tray joint.
