Beko silicone for bathroom joints

Updated: 23 October 2026

The black line along the bath has cracked, and you are deciding whether a Beko bathroom cartridge has to be the £29.99 PSS tube. A wet joint needs a fungicidal sealant, dry flanks, and a room that dries out. PSS is the specialist Beko pairs with plumbing. Pro4 is the neutral alternative on acrylic, metal or stone. The clear food line is the wrong default. The [Beko silicone comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/beko-silicone) holds the listings. What a bathroom asks of the cartridge

A bath rim moves when you fill it, and soap sits in the joint for hours. The sealant has to stay elastic and resist mould better than a general glazing silicone. Movement on the Pro4 and food sheets is about 25% of the joint width, not a promise that a packed slot will hold. Pro4 is the neutral, fungicidal all-rounder, about £14.99 for the colour listings. PSS Premium is the sanitary name, £29.99 for white and for pergamon. The food cartridge is not fungicidal, so a clear bead around a tray is how a shower stays mouldy. BS EN 15651-3 also excludes food contact, drinking water and underwater use. A bathroom joint is not the place to finish a food-grade tube. If the extractor is weak, spots return whether or not the cartridge said anti-fungal.

PSS or Pro4

Choose PSS when the suite is a stated sanitary colour and you will pay £29.99 for that name. White, part 22510002, shows 4.5 from 13 ratings. Pergamon, part 22510019, shows 3.7 from two, and one comment says the colour did not go towards pergamon. The photographs are a weak guide. Open the nozzle onto a spare tile. The maker’s PSS page adds an acetate cure, class XS1, and a shower-proof claim of about two hours. None of that is on the Amazon titles. Acetoxy is a poor match for many metals and for natural stone. Glazed ceramic is where it is usually acceptable. Choose Pro4 for acrylic, uPVC, metal or a mixed frame, or when you need grey, brown or walnut at £14.99. Silver grey is the best value general colour here. The Amazon colour pages do not print the fungicide sentence, so check the label. Pro4 is neutral-cure on the UK page and it is not paintable. Skip it if you need XS1 written on a tube you can show a client. Skip the food line: £15.80 and 4.6 from 384 ratings does not make a fungicidal shower seal. The buying guide sets the same split for windows and worktops. The unreliable black title is on the best Beko silicone page.

Acrylic, stone and the primer

Acrylic baths are the case Beko singles out for primer. The plastic flexes, and an acetoxy bead can peel when the bath is filled with hot water. Follow that line rather than a rival brand’s claim that it bonds to acrylic. Neutral Pro4 is the other option beside a plastic rim, still on a clean, dry flank. Natural stone is the stain risk. Pro4’s no-fringe-discolouration claim is not a test of your marble. Smear an offcut and look for a dark edge. Acetoxy PSS is the worse bet on limestone and marble. A fireplace sealed with the fire-line cartridge is a different product. Do not borrow it for a bath.

When a new bead will not stay white

Fungicide is not a permanent shield. Trade notes say the additive leaches, especially under aggressive cleaners. XS1 is low shrinkage plus the top mould class. It does not keep a steamy room bright if the fan never runs. Wipe the joint dry after showers. Bleach on a tired bead buys a week and eats the surface. A leak into the ceiling, or a floor that stays wet behind the bath, is the point to call a plumber. If pergamon is plainly the wrong cream, £29.99 and two ratings is too little reason to force a thicker bead that sticks on three sides.

Common questions

Pro4 or PSS around a bath?
PSS is the sanitary specialist, £29.99 in this set, with a thin rating sample and an acetate cure on the maker’s sheet. Pro4 at about £14.99 is the neutral, fungicidal alternative when the bath is acrylic or the frame is mixed, provided you read the label for the fungicide the Amazon colour pages omit. Neither is the clear food cartridge.
Why did the new silicone go mouldy?
Usually the room stayed wet. Fungicide washes down, and XS1 does not replace an extractor. Soap left in the joint feeds the growth. If the bead you used was the food line, it was never the fungicidal cartridge.
Acetoxy or neutral on an acrylic bath?
Beko asks for primer on acrylic. PSS is acetate on the maker’s page, so primer matters there. Neutral Pro4 is the other option beside a plastic rim. Do not skip primer because a different brand says its acetoxy sticks to acrylic.
Can I use the food cartridge because it is clear?
No. Food line 22701 is not fungicidal. Clear is a colour, not a bathroom duty. Use it for a cured food-area joint, and keep the shower on PSS or fungicidal Pro4.
Is £29.99 PSS worth it if the photo looks the same for white and pergamon?
Only if you need that sanitary name and you check the bead on a tile. White has 13 ratings and a colour-mismatch comment. Pergamon has two ratings and a shade complaint. The shared-looking photo is not a colour sample. Silver grey Pro4 at £14.99 is the better spend when the suite is not a strict sanitary shade.
When do I stop and call a plumber?
When water is reaching a floor or a ceiling, when damp returns as soon as the bead is replaced, or when the bath is leaking behind the panel rather than at the visible joint. A new cartridge will not fix a failed tray waste or a rotten deck.
