Plug-in fence buying guide

Updated: October 2026

A plug-in fence buying guide is the order of decisions before you compare models. You want a low fence you can push into a UK flower bed, and an amazon.co.uk page can already show more than one height for a single kit. Start with the job, then insist on one height, then count the run and the rods, then look at the gap and what will sit in the soil. Price in pounds comes last. The [plug-in fence comparison](/hub/fencing-and-wire/plug-in-fence) holds Koknows, WELDUN and JonesHouseDeco, as read on 19 October 2026. This page does not rank them.

Start with the job

A bed edge, a dog kept off that bed, and a boundary that has to stop people are three different fences. Only the first two belong here, and the dog job is a deterrent. If the dog already clears about a metre, look at another product. ELEO's UK article makes that split and does not test these listings. A 30 cm insert can mark plants. A 1.8 m panel is a different purchase. Once the job is named, use the best plug-in fence page.

Accept only one height

If the title, a bullet and the dimensions disagree, keep every figure. WELDUN, at about £24.99, prints 61 cm, 41 cm and 0.31 m. The run is 320 cm in the title and 3.1 m in the dimensions. Koknows agrees at 102 cm on the title and the first bullet, on a 7 m run. A later bullet still offers 24 inch to 40 inch, and some review texts describe shorter pieces. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 expects goods to match the description.

Count the run and the rods

A curve uses more length than a straight tape of the same bed, as Joybuy's UK guide notes, and these kits join on shared rods. Ten panels often need eleven rods. WELDUN states 10 panels and 11 metal plug-in rods. Koknows describes stakes and prints no count; included components say Case. JonesHouseDeco does not confirm stakes, and one reviewer bought them separately. Koknows prints a 5.5 cm gap. Nothing in these listings says the bottom edge is buried.

The 1 m line beside a road

A 30 cm border is usually under the frontage cap. A 102 cm kit on a front boundary is over it. England allows 1 metre beside a highway used by vehicles, including the footpath, and 2 metres elsewhere, not on a listed curtilage. Article 4 directions can remove that right. Wales uses the same heights. Scotland allows 2 metres, or 1 metre if the fence fronts a road or comes forward of the house, not in a conservation area. Northern Ireland is 1 metre next to a vehicular road and 2 metres elsewhere.

Price only after the sizes match

About £24.99 and about £174.92 are different objects. WELDUN is the lowest shelf price, and the height is three figures. JonesHouseDeco at about £25.99 is 120 cm of 30 cm wood, with no preservative stated. Koknows at about £174.92 is 14.6 kg of iron, titled at 102 cm by 7 m with a gate. Price per metre is fair only when height and length describe the same fence. Decorative fences are not standardised on the BS 1722 series foreword. Common questions

What should I decide before I compare plug-in fences?
Decide the job first: a bed edge, a dog kept off that bed, or a line that has to stop people. Only the first two belong here. Then require one height the title and the next line agree on, and count the rods. Comparing about £24.99 with about £174.92 first mixes a border with a gated run.
What if the title, a bullet and the dimensions give different heights?
Keep every figure. WELDUN prints 61 cm, 41 cm and 0.31 m, so none is the height until the page agrees. Koknows agrees at 102 cm, then a later bullet offers 24 inch to 40 inch. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 is why a conflicting description is a problem, not a figure to pick.
How many stakes or rods should a panel kit include?
Ten panels often need eleven rods, because ends and joints share them. WELDUN states 10 panels and 11 rods. Koknows describes stakes and does not print a number. JonesHouseDeco does not say whether stakes are supplied. A curve uses more length than a straight tape of the same bed.
Does a 102 cm kit stay inside the 1 m rule beside a road?
On a front boundary beside a road, 102 cm is over the usual cap. England and Wales allow 1 metre next to a highway used by vehicles and 2 metres elsewhere. Scotland uses 1 metre where the fence fronts a road. Northern Ireland uses 1 metre next to a vehicular road. A 30 cm border is usually under that cap.
Is a 30 cm wooden insert the same product as a metal panel run?
No. JonesHouseDeco is 120 cm by 30 cm, with no preservative stated. Koknows is iron, titled at 102 cm by 7 m with a gate. WELDUN is ten metal panels and 11 rods, with three heights on the page. They share a no-dig style of fitting. They do not share a height or a job.
When is price per metre a fair comparison?
Only after height and length describe the same kind of fence. About £24.99 for WELDUN still has three heights, so a price per metre would invent a size. About £25.99 buys 120 cm of 30 cm wood. About £174.92 buys a titled 7 m gated run at 102 cm, if the box matches that title.
