GPS key ring for keys and luggage

Updated: 23 October 2026

You lose the house keys between the sofa and the hall, and you also want something on a checked case for a flight from a UK airport. A GPS key ring sold on amazon.co.uk is being asked to do both, and the two jobs are not the same test. Indoors you need a sound you can hear. In the hold you get a last seen place when another phone passes the case. This page stays on that split for the twelve tags in our [GPS key ring](/hub/electronic-surveillance/gps-key-ring) comparison. Which phone to buy is the [GPS key ring buying guide](/hub/electronic-surveillance/gps-key-ring/sub/gps-key-ring-buying-guide).

Keys and a suitcase are different tests

Keys in the flat are a ring test. You play the sound and walk towards it. A suitcase after bag drop is a crowd-network test. The map shows the last time a phone on that network saw the tag. Which? states that these products have no GPS chip and no mobile-data connection. UK reviews already put tags on both jobs: keys at home, and suitcases on ATUVOS, SmartTag2, Tile, AirTag, aowoka, and KZO. One AirTag review says updates after bag drop were rare. One Tile review says the tag is not real-time GPS. Prices and claims are the amazon.co.uk listings of 19 October 2026, plus Apple’s UK page for the airline-share wording. Products Compared did not fly a bag as a test.

Keys in the flat

Ring the tag from the next room before a trip. One aowoka pack claims 120 dB, Tile and the other aowoka pack 100 dB, KZO 80–100 dB, and UGREEN and HH-Tech 80 dB. AirTag claims a speaker 50 percent louder and gives no decibel figure. SmartTag2 states none, and UK reviews call it quiet. MiLi puts a keyring in the title. HH-Tech includes a key ring. aowoka includes cases and lanyards. UGREEN’s magnet mount draws complaints about the string. AirTag’s bullets omit a holder, so the £29.00 tag needs a separate loop. The white Tile listing omits a keyring. IP67 on SmartTag2, ATUVOS, aowoka, and MiLi is a lab limit for brief immersion. Tile, UGREEN, HH-Tech, KZO, and the AirTag snapshot state no IP rating. A suitcase is a last seen place

In the hold the tag stays on the last terminal sighting until the case is among phones again. “Not updating” after bag drop can be the product working as designed. Apple’s UK AirTag page says you can share item location with airline partners, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. The link expires after seven days or when you are reunited. The amazon bullets say “over 50 airline partners” and do not name them. Put that share link on the delayed-bag report if the airline asks. A Tile, a SmartTag2, or a Find Hub tag can still show a last seen place when a phone on that network passes. Which? treats Find My as the widest crowd, and Tile’s network as more hit and miss. A Galaxy tag needs Galaxy phones nearby. Named choices are on the best GPS key ring page.

What this tag will not do

MiLi says the MiTag is not meant for a person or a pet. Google’s Find Hub help says tracker tags are not for pets or stolen items. A vehicle with no phone nearby has nothing to report. A tag in your bag that you did not put there is a different problem from a delayed suitcase. Police.uk says a hidden tag can be used to stalk someone. If you feel unsafe, contact the police. Apple’s unwanted-tracker guide covers an AirTag you do not recognise. Hampshire Constabulary says that in a domestic abuse situation it can be safer to leave the tag until you have advice. Section 2A of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 is the summary stalking offence.

Common questions

Will a key tag show a live dot of a suitcase in the hold?
In the hold the map stays on the last place a phone on that network saw the case. One AirTag review says updates after bag drop were rare. A Tile review says the product is not real-time GPS. You talk to the airline from that last pin.
What should you test before a flight?
Ring the tag in the same room and confirm you can hear it. Then check that a last seen point appears after you leave the house. If the kitchen ring fails, fix the app or the tag before you travel.
What does a delayed update mean?
No phone on that network has reported the tag since the last pin. A checked bag can stay on that pin through the flight. When you land, the pin can move again once the case is among phones. Until then, use the baggage desk.
Can you share an AirTag location with the airline?
Apple’s UK page says you can share item location with airline partners, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, and that the link ends after seven days or when you are reunited. The amazon bullets claim airline partners and do not name them. Put the share link on the delayed-bag report if the airline asks. A Tile or a SmartTag2 does not gain that Apple share list.
Is a tag on house keys the same product as a tag for a dog or a car?
Keys need a ring in the flat. A dog on a long walk, a child, or a parked car with no phone nearby will not produce a live track. MiLi says not for a person or a pet. Google says tracker tags are not for pets or stolen goods.
What if you find a tag in your own bag that you did not put there?
Police.uk warns that a hidden tag can be used to stalk someone. If you feel unsafe, contact the police. Apple’s unwanted-tracker guide covers an AirTag you do not recognise. In a domestic abuse situation, it can be safer to leave the tag until you have advice.
