AirTag vs Tile

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are down to two product pages: Apple AirTag (2nd generation) at £29.00, or a Life360 Tile Mate T1801A at £16.99 in black or white. If everyone who must see this tag has an iPhone, the AirTag is the one that claims Precision Finding. If the same tag has to work for an Android phone as well, the Tile is the one whose listing says both families. This AirTag vs Tile page stays on that pair. Galaxy SmartTag2 and the cheap dual-system tags belong on the [GPS key ring buying guide](/hub/electronic-surveillance/gps-key-ring/sub/gps-key-ring-buying-guide). The full table is the [GPS key ring](/hub/electronic-surveillance/gps-key-ring) comparison.

The phone is the fork

AirTag uses Apple Find My. A Pixel or a Galaxy will not complete that setup. Tile Mate uses Life360, and both colour listings say iOS and Android, so one iPhone and one Android phone can share the Tile. Which? describes Find My as the large default on iPhones, and Tile’s network as people who have the Tile app, so public finds are more hit and miss. A Galaxy-only household should buy the SmartTag2, covered on the best GPS key ring page. The raw AirTag file, ASIN B0GJTCB2QM, has no Customer Reviews line. Both Tile colours show 4.2 from 17,295 reviews.

What you are paying for

The AirTag listing claims Precision Finding on iPhone and Apple Watch, up to 1.5 times the previous range, a speaker 50 percent louder, and sharing with contacts and airline partners. Apple’s UK note limits the improved Precision Finding to iPhone Air or iPhone 15 or later, excluding iPhone 16e, and to Apple Watch Series 9 or Ultra 2 or later, on iOS or iPadOS 26.2.1 or later. The Tile can ring a silenced phone. The alert is 100 dB. Life360 says a ring in range does not need a subscription. Black states 350 feet. White states 105 with no unit. Neither listing states a water rating. Do not paste IP68 from Life360 marketing onto T1801A.

Holder, cell, and the map

The AirTag bullets do not list a holder. Add one to the £29.00 for house keys. The white Tile box line is one Tile, and reviews mention a key loop that breaks. Apple’s UK pages state a replaceable CR2032 and IP67. This amazon snapshot says the battery lasts more than a year and is replaceable, without a cell size or a water rating. The change steps are on the how to set up a GPS key ring page. The Tile states a lithium metal battery for about 3 years and does not say you can replace it. Out of Bluetooth range, both show a last seen place. One AirTag review in this set says updates after bag drop were rare.

Which one, with a condition

Buy the AirTag when every phone that must see the tag is an iPhone, you want Precision Finding, and you will pay £29.00 plus a holder. Skip it when you need Android or a star line from this file. Buy the Tile when an Android phone must use the same tag, or when you want the button that rings a silenced phone. Prefer the black listing for a range figure: 350 feet has a unit, and “105” does not. Accept a sealed three-year claim and no stated water rating. Common questions

When do you buy the AirTag instead of the Tile?
Buy the AirTag when everyone who must see the tag has an iPhone and you want Precision Finding on a recent model. The listing price is £29.00, the holder is extra, and this saved listing has no star line. Apple’s support page, not the amazon bullets, names the iPhone 15 and later rule, excluding iPhone 16e, and iOS 26.2.1 or later for this generation.
When do you buy the Tile instead?
Buy the Tile when the same tag must work on Android as well as iPhone, or when you want a button that rings a silenced phone. It is £16.99, 4.2 from 17,295 reviews, with a 100 dB claim. The cell is not described as replaceable, and neither colour states a water rating. A ring does not need Tile Premium.
Does Tile work if one person has an iPhone and one has Android?
Both T1801A listings say iOS and Android through the Life360 app. That is the reason to choose it over the AirTag in a mixed household. The AirTag stays in Find My. An Android phone does not become an AirTag reader because someone else owns an iPhone.
Do you need Tile Premium to ring it?
Life360’s support article says you can ring the Tile in range without a subscription, along with the last location and sharing with one person. The UK plans page includes Tile tracking on the free tier. Paid plans add other features. They are not required for the sound test in the same room.
Does AirTag include a keyring?
The bullets do not list a holder. Add one to the £29.00 for keys. The white Tile listing does not list a keyring either. Reviewers say the loop can break.
Which iPhones get the newer Precision Finding?
Apple’s UK support page says improved Precision Finding with iPhone Air or iPhone 15 or later, excluding iPhone 16e, and Apple Watch Series 9 or Ultra 2 or later if you use the watch. AirTag (2nd generation) needs iOS or iPadOS 26.2.1 or later. Those limits are Apple’s, and they are not printed as a phone list on the amazon snapshot.
Is either of them a GPS tracker?
Both are Bluetooth tags. The phone rings the tag nearby, and a last seen place appears when another phone on that network passes it. Which? states that AirTags and similar tags have no GPS chip and no mobile-data connection.
