How to set up a GPS key ring

Updated: 23 October 2026

The battery tab is still on, and the phone is asking which app you mean. A GPS key ring in this set is a Bluetooth tag, and it comes to life in the app it was built for. Find My, Google Find Hub, SmartThings, and Life360 are four menus. This is how to set up a GPS key ring from the twelve listings in our [GPS key ring](/hub/electronic-surveillance/gps-key-ring) comparison: pick the app, pair it once, ring it in the same room, and change a cell only where a door is documented. Which network to buy is the [GPS key ring buying guide](/hub/electronic-surveillance/gps-key-ring/sub/gps-key-ring-buying-guide). This page assumes you already have the tag.

Open the app that matches the tag

AirTag (2nd generation), UGREEN FineTrack, and ATUVOS AT2301 use Apple Find My. UGREEN’s listing says Android is not supported, and you cannot pair it to a MacBook. Apple’s UK page says this AirTag needs iOS or iPadOS 26.2.1 or later. That figure is not in the amazon saved listing. Galaxy SmartTag2 uses SmartThings. Peel a covered QR far enough to scan it. Tile Mate T1801A uses Life360, in the Keys area. HH-Tech, KZO, both aowoka packs, and both MiLi packs are dual-system: Find Hub on Android 9 or later, or Find My on iPhone, then a reset before the other phone can take the tag. Products Compared used the listing bullets and maker pages from 19 October 2026, and did not film a setup.

Pair it once

For an AirTag, hold it near the iPhone, tap Connect, and name it after the object. UGREEN and ATUVOS are Find My other items, without the Precision Finding arrow. Take the pop-up, or use the add-item path. Skip a random “GPS” app if the listing says Find My. HH-Tech: pull the insulation tab, wait for the Find Hub pop-up named HH-TAG01 Dual, or in Find My add it as an Other Item. KZO uses iOS 14.5 or Android 9, and not Huawei HarmonyOS. aowoka and MiLi follow the same one-phone rule. If a second phone must see that tag, you wanted Tile, which is AirTag vs Tile. For a Tile, open Life360, use the Keys icon, press the button, and name it. For SmartTag2, open SmartThings, add a device, and scan the QR.

Ring it before you trust the map

Play the sound on the kitchen table before you trust a pin. On a Tile, Find rings it, and Life360 says that ring does not need Premium. On Find My, use the item card or Siri where the tag supports it. ATUVOS states that sound within 60 m. UGREEN and HH-Tech state 80 dB, Tile 100 dB, and one aowoka pack 120 dB. SmartTag2 states no decibels, and UK reviews call it quiet. AirTag claims a speaker 50 percent louder and gives no decibel figure. A ring beside you means the pair succeeded. If it fails, check the tab, Bluetooth, the app, and the operating-system version. Google’s help page says tracker tags are not for pets or stolen items.

Replace a CR2032 only when the product says so

Apple’s UK battery page of 14 October 2026 says an AirTag cell is a CR2032, positive side up, cover turned anticlockwise. The amazon saved listing does not name the cell size. UGREEN, SmartTag2, and MiTag Duo state a CR2032. ATUVOS says the cell is replaceable for up to a year, and a review names CR2032, while the details table does not. Tile Mate T1801A states a lithium cell for about three years and does not say it is replaceable. Ignore AAA, C, and 9V on aowoka, HH-Tech, and KZO when a review or the bullets say CR2032. Stop when the pop-up never appears, iOS is below 26.2.1, or you are about to pry open a Tile. A swallowed coin cell is emergency care. The wrong network is on the best GPS key ring page.

Common questions

Which app do you open for each tag in this set?
Find My for AirTag, UGREEN FineTrack, and ATUVOS. SmartThings for Galaxy SmartTag2. Life360 for both Tile Mate colours. Google Find Hub on Android, or Find My on iPhone, for HH-Tech, KZO, aowoka, and MiLi, one phone at a time. A second app will not see a tag that was paired to the first.
What iOS version does Apple state for AirTag (2nd generation)?
Apple’s UK support page says AirTag (2nd generation) needs iOS or iPadOS 26.2.1 or later. That figure is not printed on the amazon.co.uk listing, so use Apple’s page. If the phone is older than that, update it before you assume the tag is faulty.
How do you change an AirTag battery, and when do you not open a Tile?
Apple’s UK page says CR2032, positive side up, cover turned anticlockwise, and keep coin cells away from children. The amazon snapshot for this AirTag does not name CR2032, so the procedure is Apple’s, not the listing’s. Do not open a Tile Mate T1801A for a cell swap. This model’s listing does not say the battery is replaceable.
Can you pair one dual-system tag and then hand it to a second phone without a reset?
The dual-system listings say one system at a time. You reset the tag before the other phone can add it. Location is not shared between the iOS and Android apps. If both phones must see it without that reset, you wanted a Tile on Life360.
When should you stop and use the maker’s support page?
Stop when the phone is below the iOS version Apple states, when a QR code on a SmartTag2 will not scan, when a Find Hub pop-up never appears after the tab is pulled, or when you are about to force a cover that the listing does not describe. A swallowed coin cell is emergency care. A tag you did not put in your bag, if you feel unsafe, is a matter for the police.
