Eufy doorbell wired or battery

Updated: 22 October 2026

Wired or battery sounds like one switch on a eufy doorbell. It is two houses. If you rent, or the wall has never had a bell, you are on a battery, and a C31 will not give you 24/7 recording on that path. If a doorbell already rings and you have read the volts and the VA for the model you bought, hardwire can top the pack up, and on a C31 it can open a continuous mode. Everyone else stops, because a new feed from the consumer unit is an electrician’s job. This page only covers power. The [Eufy doorbell comparison](/hub/electronic-surveillance/eufy-doorbell) flags the power row and the prices. Figures are amazon.co.uk shelf prices from 19 October 2026. Mounting steps and Part P sit on [how to install a eufy doorbell](/hub/electronic-surveillance/eufy-doorbell/sub/eufy-doorbell-how-to-install).

Battery, if there are no bell wires

A renter without bell wires is the audience for a C30, or for a C31 left on its pack. The C30 in this set is battery only. The Renewed listing, B0DQCYLD3M at £43.99, states a built-in 5,000 mAh pack and shows no wired mode. The manufacturer comparison gives that model no pre-roll and no 24/7 recording, and the C31 and C30 power FAQ says the C30 does not support wired mode. You recharge it. You do not gain continuous recording by wishing the wires were there. A C31 on battery uses the 6,500 mAh quick-release pack and, on that path, you still recharge it. The bullets that promise 24/7 recording and a five-second pre-roll are tied to hardwire. Busy-door reviews in this category describe shorter battery life, and they do not give a day count you can budget. The E340 UK page prints up to six months from a charge. That is the manufacturer’s line. One 2026 tester’s note of about three months was one person, on a eufy.com unit, with motion detection off, and it is not a measurement of these ASINs. Expect to take the doorbell down and charge it. The question order around that choice is on the eufy doorbell buying guide.

Hardwire still uses the battery

Hardwire, on the models that accept it, does not mean the pack comes out. On a C31 the battery stays inserted and the wires top it up. The power-mode article tells you to switch the power off before you remove the pack or the card. On the E340 UK page the battery remains installed and wired mode trickle-charges it. The E340 can still use a mechanical chime, which is a different arrangement from a C31 that wants the old chime bypassed for continuous recording. A worked example from this shelf, not a ranking: the C31 without a chime, B0GSFQL25B, was £84.99 and its bullets claim 24/7 only after that hardwire. The large-file E340, B0GH7KRSQQ, was £139.00. This comparison does not claim 24/7 recording for the E340. Wiring an E340 is a trickle charge of the pack you leave inside. It is not the C31’s continuous mode by another name. If your transformer is a traditional UK chime unit of only a few VA, read the next section before you assume it can hold either doorbell.

Two voltage notes, not one

The E340 UK page and the C31 notes do not share one sentence, and the EU E340 page is the wrong one to import. For the E340 in the UK, use 8–24 V and more than 10 VA, with the battery left in. That is the UK product page. Do not replace it with an EU line of 16–24 V and 30 VA. The C31 has two published notes, and they stay side by side. The C31 and C30 power FAQ says 16–24 V AC, 10 VA or above, and a maximum of 40 VA, and it says the C30 is not a wired doorbell. The C31 UK product FAQ says 16–24 V, 30 VA, and the existing chime bypassed, for pre-roll and 24/7. A separate UK and EU support note for an older wired doorbell asks for 16–24 V and a bypassed original chime. Ten VA and 30 VA both appear in eufy’s own material. A few-VA chime transformer, which is common on older UK bells, is the supply most likely to fall short of either figure. A trickle that merely slows the drain is a different result from 24/7 recording.

When 24/7 actually appears

On a C31, 24/7 recording and the five-second pre-roll show up on the bypass path: the existing chime is taken out of circuit, the pack stays in, and the supply meets the note you are following. Keep the existing chime and the power-mode article describes a low-current charge only, about six or seven days to full, and it says a busy door can still drain the pack. That is why a wired C31 can still go flat. You wired it, and you left the chime in the circuit, so you bought a slow top-up rather than continuous recording. The same article says 24/7 is unavailable on HomeBase 2 because of storage, and it points to a solo setup or HomeBase 3. Fees, cards, and what an account still does are on the eufy doorbell with no subscription page. If the transformer itself has to be fed from the mains, or you cannot isolate the circuit, stop and call an electrician. No bell wires: stay on battery and accept recharging, with a C30 or a battery C31. Bell wires, and a transformer that meets the note for your model: hardwire, leave the pack in, and use the C31 bypass only if you actually want 24/7.

Common questions

Can a renter with no bell wires get 24/7 recording?
A renter with no bell wires stays on battery. The C30 has no wired mode in the power FAQ, and the C31’s 24/7 recording and five-second pre-roll are tied to a hardwire. Battery use means you recharge the pack. It does not become continuous recording because the listing also mentions wires for other houses. If a landlord later allows a feed, that is a new decision about volts and VA, and a new transformer from the consumer unit is an electrician’s job. Until then, choose the battery path and plan to take the doorbell down to charge it.
Does hardwire mean the battery comes out?
On the C31 and on the UK E340 page, the pack stays in the doorbell and the wires top it up. The C31 power-mode article tells you to switch the power off before you remove the pack or the card. The E340 UK page describes wired mode as a trickle charge with the battery still installed. Hardwire is not a swap to a battery-free doorbell. A C30 does not take this path at all. If a guide tells you to pull the pack and run on wires alone, it is describing a different product from these two.
What volts and VA does each model ask for?
The E340 UK page asks for 8–24 V and more than 10 VA. The C31 and C30 power FAQ says 16–24 V AC, 10 VA or above, maximum 40 VA, and it excludes the C30 from wired mode. The C31 UK product FAQ says 16–24 V and 30 VA, with the existing chime bypassed, when you want pre-roll and 24/7. An older UK and EU wired-doorbell note also says 16–24 V and a bypass. Use the note for the model you bought. A traditional UK chime transformer of only a few VA is likely to miss these figures.
Will the old ding-dong still work if you want C31 24/7?
The C31 path for 24/7 recording and the five-second pre-roll bypasses the existing chime. Leave that chime in circuit and eufy’s power-mode article describes a low-current charge, about six or seven days to reach full, with a busy door still able to drain the pack. You are choosing between the old ding-dong and the continuous mode, on that article’s account. The E340 UK page is different: it allows a mechanical chime, and this comparison does not claim 24/7 recording for the E340.
Why might a wired C31 still go flat?
A wired C31 still has the battery inside. If you kept the existing chime, the supply is the low-current charge in the power-mode article, and that article says a busy door can empty the pack anyway. A transformer of only a few VA can fail to meet the 10 VA or 30 VA notes. HomeBase 2, on that same article, does not offer 24/7. The fix is to match the bypass path and the voltage note, or to accept that you are trickle-charging and will still recharge by hand.
Is up to six months a measured figure for this set?
The up to six months line is what the E340 UK page prints. It is a manufacturer claim. This set does not turn it into a measured life, and busy-door reviews are described as shorter without a day count you can copy. One published figure of about three months was one tester using the doorbell with motion detection off, on a unit bought from eufy.com, not a result for these amazon.co.uk ASINs. Budget for recharging on battery.
Who do you call if the transformer has to be fed from the mains?
Call an electrician if the chime contains mains, if a new transformer must come from the consumer unit, or if you cannot isolate the circuit. This page does not walk through that swap. How to isolate a working bell circuit, and how Part P applies in England and Wales, is on the install page. Scotland and Northern Ireland are not covered by copying the English list. Extra-low-voltage bell wire that already rings is a different job from a new mains feed. If you are unsure which one you are looking at, stop.
