How to install a eufy doorbell

Updated: 22 October 2026

The doorbell is already chosen and the screws are the next job. How to install a eufy doorbell, on a battery, is a charge, a live-view check, a bracket, and a join to a Wi-Fi name you can see. Existing bell wire is a second path, and only after the old bell actually rings. A new transformer fed from the consumer unit is a third path, and you do not start that one. The [Eufy doorbell comparison](/hub/electronic-surveillance/eufy-doorbell) is where the model was chosen. Prices and volts in the background are from the UK listings and eufy UK pages read for 19 October 2026. The Products Compared editorial team did not fit a unit on a door. Whether you should be on battery or on wires at all is settled on the [eufy doorbell wired or battery](/hub/electronic-surveillance/eufy-doorbell/sub/eufy-doorbell-wired-or-battery) page before you drill.

Charge it, then mark the holes

The C31 quick start, for model T8223, is the sequence to follow when that is the box you bought, and it is not a universal script for every ASIN in the set. Charge the pack first. Listings are not shipped full, and the C31 and C30 power FAQ puts the level at about 80 percent. Check the live view in the app before you commit to holes, so you can see whether a side wall fills the frame. That same C31 guide says infrared night vision blurs when a side wall dominates the picture. If the holes are new, the guide puts the bracket at about 1.2 m (48 in), with the positioning card, and it includes a 15 degree wedge so the lens can turn slightly off a flat wall. On brick, that guide specifies a 15/64 in (5.95 mm) bit. You then click the doorbell onto the bracket. The C31 box list in that quick start has no adhesive pad, so the fixing is screws. The Renewed C30 listing in this set itemises a bracket, a screw-hole card, a USB-C cable, and a 15 degree adapter, and it does not include a chime. Use the card in the box you have, mark, and drill. If you are reusing old holes and they line up, you can skip the new height and still do the charge and the live view.

Join 2.4 GHz before you blame the doorbell

Most tables in this set say 2.4 GHz only. During setup, the phone needs to be on a 2.4 GHz network whose name you can see, with WPA or WPA2, which is the condition in eufy’s own 2.4 GHz setup article for devices that join Wi-Fi directly. A mesh system that hides the 2.4 GHz name, or folds it into one SSID the doorbell cannot find, is already a failure mode in E340 reviews: the unit will not join, and the bracket is not the cause. Split out a visible 2.4 GHz network, put the phone on it, and run the join again before you take the doorbell off the wall. One listing in the set claims more than that radio. The E340 with Chime 2, B0G7YBYHGC, states 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. That claim stays on that listing. It does not become a promise for a C30, a C31, or the other E340 pages. An older eufy FAQ says a previous 2K battery doorbell can join only through a HomeBase. The C30, the C31, and the E340 are treated here as Wi-Fi doorbells, so do not copy the HomeBase-only rule onto them. Which models claim which band is on the eufy doorbell buying guide, and the fix is still the network you can see, not a different bracket.

Card in the doorbell, or a base that is already on

A solo C30 or C31 records to a microSD card in the doorbell, up to 128 GB, and the card is usually not in the box. Fit the card before you expect a clip to survive after the live view ends. If you later pair that doorbell to a HomeBase, the C30 and C31 storage FAQ says the clips sit on the base instead. You do not leave the card as the store and also assume the base is keeping a second copy unless the app shows that. E340 listings in this set that state a storage figure say 8 GB inside the doorbell. That is a different object from a card you still have to buy. HomeBase is optional on the C and E lines. It is not a step you must complete to finish a battery mount. The S330 kit title names a base, and you confirm that against the carton rather than against the title alone. What no monthly fee still means once the card or the 8 GB is in place, including the account you use to watch the clips, is on the eufy doorbell with no subscription page. This install stops at the card being in, or the base being the store.

Existing bell wire, then stop

Ring the old bell before you loosen anything. If it does not ring, the wires may be dead, and the honest paths are the battery mount you have already done or a call to an electrician. If it does ring, shut off the breaker and prove that circuit is dead before you touch the bell wire. Bell wire is extra-low voltage. You do not connect a video doorbell to 230 V mains. Mains inside the chime, a new transformer taken from the consumer unit, or any circuit you cannot isolate is the electrician’s job, not an afternoon with the quick-start PDF. In England and Wales, Part P of the Building Regulations makes a new circuit notifiable work. That is the IET’s own FAQ on Part P, and it also covers a consumer-unit replacement and additions in a special location. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own building rules. This page does not apply the English notifiable list to those nations, and it does not paste BS 7671. The E340 UK page asks for 8–24 V and more than 10 VA, with the battery left in. A separate UK and EU note for an older wired doorbell asks for 16–24 V and a bypassed original chime. The C31 product FAQ states 16–24 V, 30 VA, and a bypass when you want pre-roll and 24/7. Read the note for the model you bought before anyone lands a new transformer. If the only useful view is a shared hall or a neighbour’s door, rethink the aim before you drill. UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply when the camera or the microphone records people beyond your boundary. GOV.UK’s domestic CCTV guidance is the public note. Fairhurst v Woodard, in the Oxford County Court in 2021, treated doorbell audio that could capture conversation as the serious problem in that case. Point the lens at your own approach, and keep the microphone in mind.

Common questions

What can you mount yourself on battery power?
On a battery C31, using that model’s quick start, you charge the pack, check the live view, mark about 1.2 m if the holes are new, use the 15 degree wedge if the wall needs it, drill, and click the unit onto the bracket. There is no adhesive pad in that box list. The Renewed C30 listing itemises a bracket, a screw-hole card, a USB-C cable, and a 15 degree adapter. You can do that without bell wires. You stop when the work is a transformer fed from the mains, or when you cannot isolate the circuit.
How high should a new hole sit, and what is the wedge for?
The C31 quick start puts new holes at about 1.2 m, which is 48 inches, and it includes a 15 degree wedge so the camera can angle off a flat or sideways wall. On brick it specifies a 15/64 inch bit, about 5.95 mm. Attribute that height to the C31 guide. If you are reusing holes that already line up, the new-hole height matters less than the live view. The same guide says infrared night vision blurs when a side wall fills the frame, so check that before the plugs go in.
Why does setup fail on a mesh router?
E340 reviews in this set describe mesh systems that hide the 2.4 GHz network and then refuse the join. Most listings here state 2.4 GHz only. eufy’s setup article asks you to put the phone on a visible 2.4 GHz network with WPA or WPA2 while a device joins Wi-Fi directly. Give the mesh a separate 2.4 GHz name and try again before you remount the bracket. The E340 bundle B0G7YBYHGC claims 5 GHz as well. That line is not a rule for the C30 or the C31.
Do you put the microSD in the doorbell or rely on a HomeBase?
A solo C30 or C31 uses a microSD card in the doorbell, up to 128 GB, and the card is often absent from the box. Pair the same doorbell with a HomeBase and the storage FAQ says the clips move to the base. E340 listings that state storage put 8 GB in the doorbell. You do not need a HomeBase to finish a battery install of a Wi-Fi C30, C31, or E340. An older FAQ that forced a HomeBase on a previous 2K battery doorbell does not transfer onto these models.
When must you stop and call an electrician?
Stop if there is mains inside the chime, if a new transformer has to be fed from the consumer unit, or if you cannot isolate the circuit and prove it is dead. Ring the old bell first. A silent bell means the wires may be dead. Bell wire that is already working is extra-low voltage, and you still isolate it before you touch it. You do not connect the doorbell to 230 V. In England and Wales a new circuit is notifiable under Part P. Scotland and Northern Ireland are outside that English list.
Does Part P apply the same way in Scotland and Northern Ireland?
Part P is the Building Regulations regime for England and Wales. The IET FAQ treats a new circuit, a consumer-unit replacement, and work in a special location as notifiable there. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own building rules, so this page does not copy the English notifiable list across all four nations. Extra-low-voltage bell wire is a different job from a new mains feed for a transformer. If you are unsure which regime applies to your home, that is an electrician’s question, not a step in the quick start.
What if the only view is a shared hall or a neighbour’s door?
Rethink the aim. A shared stair or a lens that looks onto a neighbour’s entrance records people beyond your boundary, and UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 then apply. GOV.UK publishes guidance on domestic CCTV for that situation. Fairhurst v Woodard, Oxford County Court, 2021, treated audio from a doorbell that could pick up conversation as the serious issue in that dispute. Choose a view of your own approach, and treat the microphone as part of the same decision.
