Eufy camera setup: when the join fails

Updated: 22 October 2026

The camera is out of the box, the eufy app is open, and the join stops on a spinner or a red light. An eufy camera setup is three jobs: the phone has to be on a 2.4 GHz name, a solo camera follows a SYNC and QR path, and a HomeBase follows an Ethernet path. A memory card is why a C31 can be online and still record nothing. The [Eufy camera comparison](/hub/electronic-surveillance/eufy-camera) is the table of the nine listings. This page is the sequence when the join fails. Peter F., editor for DIY & tools, used eufy's own setup notes and the amazon.co.uk lines.

Put the phone on the 2.4 GHz name first

eufy's setup note says the phone itself has to be on the 2.4 GHz network name before you add the device. If your router uses one name for both bands, eufy says the device uses 2.4 GHz. That is not the same as a phone sitting on a separate 5G network. SoloCams and IndoorCams can join Wi-Fi directly. eufy says the eufyCam series cannot. If the router is hiding the SSID, show it for the join.

Solo path for S220, E220, C220, and a C35 without a hub

Charge a battery camera before you ask it to join. The S220 note says charge first, pick the 2.4 GHz network, hold SYNC for two seconds on the camera, then scan the QR code. That hold is not the button on a HomeBase. One UK buyer on the C220 found the supplied USB leads did not work and used spares. The C35-family quick-start on amazon.co.uk says 5 V only, not a fast charger.

Hub path for HomeBase Mini, HomeBase 3, and the E40

HomeBase S380 setup starts with Ethernet into a LAN port, the original 12 V / 2 A adapter, and the phone on the same router. After the LED is blue, hold SYNC/ALARM OFF for two seconds. That is the hub button, not the camera SYNC. Buying a HomeBase Mini because another camera uses one does not satisfy the E40 line. The C35 kit is the opposite carton: the Mini is in the box.

Card, format, and the C31 app version

The C35-family guide says the card pins go up, and not to pull the card while a HomeBase Mini is powered. The E220 specification block does not state a card size, so do not guess one. The C31 bullets name an app version: v6.0.00_260205232922 on iOS, or v6.0.01_21698 on Android, or newer. What a thumbnail still uploads is on the eufy camera local storage page.

When you stop

You stop when the next step is mains wiring. UK mains are 230 V, and the plug is BS 1363. Do not feed a C35 from a fast charger because the lead looks the same. The eufy solar or plug-in page is where you choose daylight or a lead. Before you rely on alerts, change any default password and install the updates. That is the National Cyber Security Centre line for a smart camera.

Common questions

Which band does the phone have to be on?
The 2.4 GHz name, before you tap add. A phone on the 5 GHz name of the same router is the usual reason a camera never sees the network. If both bands share one SSID, eufy says the device uses 2.4 GHz. If you have a separate 5 GHz name, leave it. Hidden names and security other than WPA or WPA2 are called out on the S220 note.
Can every camera in this set join Wi-Fi on its own?
No. eufy says SoloCams and IndoorCams can join directly, which is the S220, E220, and C220 path. The eufyCam series cannot. The E40 listing says it needs HomeBase S380 or HomeBase 2. A C35 can be added without a hub if you are storing on a card, and the kit's cameras belong on the Mini in the box.
What does a red HomeBase light mean?
On the S380 setup note, red is the light before the hub has finished joining. Ethernet has to be in a LAN port, the original 12 V / 2 A adapter has to be fitted, and the phone has to be on the same router. The note says the LED should change to blue. Hold SYNC/ALARM OFF for two seconds only after that. A red light is not the camera's SYNC button.
How long do you hold SYNC?
Two seconds, on the control the note is talking about. For an S220 that will not connect, that is the button on the camera, after it has been charged and after you have picked the 2.4 GHz network, then you scan the QR. For a HomeBase S380, it is SYNC/ALARM OFF on the hub, after the LED has gone blue. Do not treat those as one button.
Why will a C31 not record after it joins?
Because the listing ties recording to a microSD card or a HomeBase, and the card is not in the box. Wi-Fi alone does not create the timeline. Fit a card, format it in the app, and check the app is at least the version the C31 bullets name. A later Wi-Fi drop, which one buyer saw after about a month, is a different fault from a missing card.
When do you stop and call an electrician?
When you need a new outdoor socket, a monitored alarm, or a cable across a communal supply. Do not add that socket yourself. Stay on the supplied adapter, on a BS 1363 plug, at UK 230 V. Choosing solar so you can avoid the socket is a buying decision, not a reason to improvise a lead along a fence.
