Hoymiles plug-in solar UK

Updated: October 2026

You have heard that, from 27 August 2026, a small balcony kit can use a normal British socket, and a Hoymiles title is already in the basket. Hoymiles plug-in solar UK is the check against that idea for three amazon.co.uk listings. The [Hoymiles inverter](/hub/electrical-equipment/hoymiles-inverter) comparison holds an HMS-1800 at £429.99, an HMS-1000 at £379.99, and an HM-700 package at £379.99. There was no lab test. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The government’s up to £110 a year line is an illustration for a compliant kit. It is not a saving for these rows.

The socket route is a legal class, not a Hoymiles series

From 27 August 2026, SI 2026/848 makes a defined plug-in microgenerator lawful to buy and use. The instrument says it generates electricity from sunlight, has a maximum rated AC output not exceeding 800 W, is meant for a standard plug and socket, runs in parallel with the distributor’s network, and is not a storage device that imports energy to store. The explanatory memorandum says the plug conforms to BS 1363-1 and goes directly into a fixed BS 1363-2 socket. The interim specification of 16 July 2026 caps the device at 800 VA and 3.5 A and expects the manufacturer-supplied BS 1363 plug. Ofgem’s decision is one plug-in unit per installation, with DNO notification still expected, and BS 7671 still applying. Plug-in storage was not cleared. 800 W is that legal cap, not a Hoymiles series name. Each of the three listings fails a different part of the shape.

The HM-700 package and its EU plug

The HM-700 package is the row people reach for, because 700 W sits under 800 W and the title talks about a balcony. The AC maximum of 700 W does not make it the socket class. The kept lead is Betteri BC01 to an EU embedded plug with VDE certification, on a 3 m cable. A BS 1363 plug is not what the listing describes. The box also has no solar panel. You get the brackets and the cable. You do not get a BS 1363 plug or a panel. At £379.99 the package is the best value only as brackets and a lead, and on a UK socket test it fails. Panel count sits on the best Hoymiles inverter page.

Why the HMS listings are outside the cap or the plug

The HMS-1800 listing fails the cap before the plug is even discussed. It is rated 1,800 VA. That is more than twice the 800 W AC limit, and more than the 800 VA and 3.5 A line in the interim specification. The listing does not name a BS 1363 plug. UL 1741 and NEC text do not convert 1,800 VA into the socket class. The HMS-1000 listing fails for a different mix of reasons. The title says 1,000 VA, which is already over 800 W. The connector is not named, so there is no BS 1363 plug to point at. A bullet says 800 W and up to one panel. That bullet is a contradiction with the title, not a certificate. Do not average 800 W and 1,000 VA and call the result compliant. The filter for suffix and standards text is the Hoymiles inverter buying guide.

What you do instead of adapting the plug

Do not fit a UK 13 A plug to the HM-700 lead, do not use a Schuko adaptor, and do not run the EU plug through an extension lead. If the aim is a socket under the new rules, these three listings are the wrong products. They do not print sunlight, at most 800 W AC, a manufacturer BS 1363 plug, and a single unit. If the aim is a permanent connection, that is an installer and your distribution network operator, not a plug change. Describing one of these listings as legal to plug into a UK socket would be false on the cards we compared.

Common questions

What changed for plug-in solar on 27 August 2026?
SI 2026/848 came into force. A plug-in microgenerator, within the definition, can be bought and used: sunlight, no more than 800 W AC, a standard plug and socket, in parallel with the network, and not a battery that imports energy to store. The plug still has to be a BS 1363 plug into a fixed BS 1363 socket.
Can you plug the HM-700 package into a UK 13 A socket?
Not on this listing. The cable is Betteri BC01 to an EU embedded plug. The package has no solar panel. 700 W is under the 800 W cap, and the EU plug still fails the BS 1363 requirement. Do not adapt the lead.
Does the HMS-1800 qualify because it is a microinverter?
No. The listing says 1,800 VA, which is over the 800 W AC cap and over the 800 VA line in the interim specification. It does not name a BS 1363 plug. Being a microinverter does not place it in the plug-in class.
The HMS-1000 listing mentions 800 W. Does that make it plug-in?
No. The title says 1,000 VA for two panels, and a bullet says 800 W and one panel. That clash is not a certification. The connector is unnamed. You cannot pick the 800 W sentence and ignore 1,000 VA.
How many plug-in units can one home connect?
Ofgem’s decision says one plug-in unit per installation. DNO notification is still expected, and BS 7671 still applies. A second microinverter on another socket is not what that decision allows.
Does this route include a plug-in battery, or the £110 figure?
Plug-in storage was not cleared. A device that imports energy to store sits outside the definition, apart from control functions the specification allows. The up to £110 a year line is a government illustration for compliant kits, not a forecast for these rows.
