Hoymiles HMS vs HM

Updated: October 2026

The two names look like sizes, and that is how a basket ends up with an older HM package, a later HMS microinverter, and a lead that fits neither. Hoymiles HMS vs HM is a generation split. They do not share a radio, a gateway family or an AC lead. The [Hoymiles inverter](/hub/electrical-equipment/hoymiles-inverter) comparison keeps two HMS listings and one HM-700 package, all sold under Solarsys on amazon.co.uk. There was no lab test. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This page tells you when the parts can share a roof, and when they cannot.

HMS and HM are generations, not wattage steps

HMS is the later single-phase family. On this shelf that is the HMS-1000 listing, titled for two panels and 1,000 VA, and the HMS-1800 listing, titled for four inputs and 1,800 VA. HM is the older family. On this shelf that is the HM-700 package, with an AC maximum of 700 W, balcony brackets and a 3 m lead. HMT is three-phase. It is not in the basket. None of the kept rows is clearly a model with the radio built into the inverter. Do not rank 700 W against 1,000 VA against 1,800 VA on this page. A larger number is not a newer radio. The HMS-1000 card even carries a bullet that says hm series, and that phrase does not convert the title into an HM-700. If you are choosing by panel count, use the best Hoymiles inverter page after you know the generation.

Sub-1G and the S gateway, versus 2.4 GHz

HMS listings in this set state Sub-1G and S-Miles Cloud, and they name DTU-WLite-S or DTU-Pro-S. Those gateways are not in the box. The DTU-WLite-S manual limits itself to HMS and HMT. The DTU-Pro-S manual says the same Sub-1G link, with later editions also naming MiS and MiT. Neither manual is written as a gateway for the HM family. HM communication on the Europe datasheet is a 2.4 GHz proprietary radio, still monitored through S-Miles Cloud. The cloud name is shared. The radio is not. One DTU cannot see an HM-700 and an HMS-1800 together. The kept HMS listings still name DTU-Pro-S. Power still flows without a DTU. Monitoring and remote limits do not.

The AC lead is not shared

The HM-700 package names its lead. It is a Betteri BC01 female connector on a 3 m cable, H07RN-F 3 × 1.5 mm, finishing in an EU embedded plug with VDE certification. The two HMS listings do not name an AC connector. They do not print BC01, and they do not print BC05. One saved review of the HMS-1800 says the output is rectangular and the recommended cable is round. Do not treat a BC05 label from another shop as a fact of B0BS6RZR83 or B0BS6TCMMD. Do not cut the HM-700 plug, and do not move its lead onto an HMS inverter.

When the HMS listing and when the HM package

Choose an HMS listing when you want the later family and you will buy the S-series DTU the listing names. The HMS-1000 listing disagrees with itself on panel count, wattage and a 12 V field. The HMS-1800 listing is consistent about four inputs and 1,800 VA, and its standards line is UL 1741, IEEE 1547 and NEC, with no G98 number. Neither problem is fixed by calling the unit newer. Choose the HM-700 package only when you want that older inverter plus the brackets and the 3 m lead, and you accept an EU embedded plug you will not adapt. Budget a separate 2.4 GHz DTU, because the listing does not name one. The MPP line on the package says 16–20 V DC. The Europe HM sheet says 16–60 V. Follow the listing for the ASIN. Common questions

What does HMS mean next to HM?
HMS is the later single-phase generation, with Sub-1G and an S-series gateway. HM is the older generation, with a 2.4 GHz radio and, on the kept package, a Betteri BC01 lead. The numbers 700, 1,000 and 1,800 are rated sizes. They do not tell you that the parts interchange.
Can one DTU see both an HM-700 and an HMS-1800?
No. DTU-WLite-S and DTU-Pro-S are documented for HMS and HMT on Sub-1G. The HM family uses the older 2.4 GHz gateway. Sharing the S-Miles Cloud name does not put both inverters on one radio.
Which gateway do the kept HMS listings ask for?
They ask for a DTU-WLite-S or a DTU-Pro-S, and neither is in the box. A footnote on a DTU-Pro-S datasheet says that model is not compatible with some W-suffix HMS units, including parts of the 600 W to 1,000 W 2T range.
Can you put the HM-700’s Betteri lead on an HMS unit?
Not on the evidence of these listings. The HM-700 lead is BC01 to an EU plug. The HMS listings do not name their connector, so there is nothing on the card that says the lead fits.
Why does the HM-700 listing say 16–20 V when the Europe sheet says 16–60 V?
Because the amazon.co.uk bullet prints 16–20 V DC, and the V202108 Europe datasheet prints an MPPT window of 16–60 V with a 60 V maximum. They disagree. For this ASIN, use the listing and the label. Do not average the two windows.
Does UL and NEC text turn an HMS listing into an HM unit?
No. The standards line is not the generation. Both HMS listings print UL 1741, IEEE 1547 and NEC rapid shutdown. The HM-700 listing prints VDE, VFR and EN 50549-1. Neither line changes the radio or the plug.
