Hoymiles inverter buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are about to add a Hoymiles title from amazon.co.uk, and the name on the basket is not yet the unit. A Hoymiles inverter buying guide has to separate the suffix, the input window, the connector, the gateway and the standards line before the price matters. The [Hoymiles inverter](/hub/electrical-equipment/hoymiles-inverter) comparison keeps three Solarsys rows only: the HMS-1000 listing at £379.99, the HMS-1800 listing at £429.99, and the HM-700 balcony package at £379.99. This page is from the Products Compared editorial team on 21 October 2026. There was no lab test. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Read the suffix before the wattage

The letters after Hoymiles tell you the generation, and the number tells you a rated size, not a promise of British sun. HMS is the later single-phase family. HM is the older family. HMT is a three-phase name, and it is not on this shelf. A -2T code on a manufacturer sheet means a two-input chassis. A -4T code means four inputs. The HMS-1000 listing’s title says 1,000 VA for two panels. The HMS-1800 listing says 1,800 VA and four inputs. The HM-700 package says an AC maximum of 700 W. A recommendation of an HMS-800W-2T is not one of these three ASINs. If the carton and the suffix do not match, stop.

Inputs and the DC window

The HMS-1800 listing is the consistent four-input card in this set. It prints an MPPT window of 16–60 V, a maximum of 65 V, and 4 × 16 A, with a recommended module band of about 360–600 W on each input. The HMS-1000 listing does not survive the same reading. The title says two panels and 1,000 VA. One bullet says 800 W and up to one panel. A voltage field says 12 V DC while the maximum input is 65 V. Those are clashes, not a range you can split down the middle. The HM-700 package states two panels of 280–470 Wp on the inverter bullet, then prints an MPP line of 16–20 V DC. The Europe HM sheet for that family prints 16–60 V. When the listing and the sheet disagree, use the listing for the thing in the basket.

Connector, gateway, and the standards line

The AC end is the next filter, and it is not shared. The HM-700 package names a Betteri BC01 female connector and a 3 m lead that finishes in an EU embedded plug with VDE certification. That is not a BS 1363 plug. The two HMS listings do not name their AC connector at all. One France review of the HMS-1800 says the output is rectangular and the recommended cable is round. The generation split, including why an HM lead does not move across, is on the Hoymiles HMS vs HM page. Both listings say S-Miles Cloud needs a DTU-WLite-S or a DTU-Pro-S, and neither gateway is in the box. Power can still flow without that gateway. Module data and remote limits cannot. The HM-700 listing does not name a DTU. None of the three prints a G98 type-test number.

Register, notification class, and export payments

Look up the manufacturer reference that is actually on the label, not the brand and not the ASIN. The public type-test register pages say the register closed on 16 April 2024 and that the data moved to Connect Direct. An older G98 form that lists HMS-600W-2T through HMS-1000W-2T covers those references only. It does not prove that B0BS6RZR83 or B0BS6TCMMD is one of those references. Fully type-tested micro-generation up to 16 A per phase, about 3.68 kW, is the connect-and-notify band. Above that, you apply before you connect. None of these rows names a BS 1363 plug. The Solarsys lifetime-against-defects field is the listing’s wording. On the HM-700 card a bullet also says 25 years. Do not merge those into one factory term.

Common questions

Which suffix should you read before you pay?
Read the family letters and the input count before the wattage. HMS is the later single-phase family, HM is the older family, and HMT is three-phase and not in this comparison. An HMS-800W-2T recommendation from another UK guide is a different model.
Why do the HMS-1000 bullets disagree with the title?
The title says 1,000 W and two panels. One bullet says 800 W and up to one panel, and a voltage field says 12 V DC beside a 65 V maximum. That is a contradiction on one amazon.co.uk card, not a specification you can average.
Does UL 1741 or NEC text mean the unit is on the UK register?
No. Those lines are what the HMS listings print, together with IEEE 1547. They are not a G98 type-test number. The public register itself moved to Connect Direct after 16 April 2024.
Do you need a DTU in the box for the inverter to make AC power?
No. Both HMS listings say a DTU-WLite-S or DTU-Pro-S is required for S-Miles Cloud, and the pack line is one microinverter. AC power can flow without that gateway. Module-level data and remote limits cannot.
Is the HM-700 package cable a UK 13 A plug?
No. The kept listing describes a Betteri BC01 female connector and an EU embedded plug with VDE certification, on a 3 m lead, with balcony brackets and no solar panel. A BS 1363 plug is not named.
Can you claim the Smart Export Guarantee on a marketplace self-fit?
Not on these listings as they stand. The public advice requires an MCS or Flexi-Orb installation and a meter that can record export. Buying the inverter from amazon.co.uk does not replace that route.
