How to connect a Hoymiles inverter

Updated: October 2026

The carton is in the hall, or it arrives tomorrow, and you want the order of checks before anyone opens a live terminal. How to connect a Hoymiles inverter, on this page, means the label, the DC window, the AC end this product actually has, and the gateway afterwards. It does not mean a wiring diagram. The [Hoymiles inverter](/hub/electrical-equipment/hoymiles-inverter) comparison only identifies the three amazon.co.uk listings. There was no lab install. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The family manuals do not prove that the unit in your box is the type-tested reference on a G98 form.

What is already in the box

The two HMS listings are the microinverter alone. Panels, a DTU and an AC cable are not in the pack line. Both cards say S-Miles Cloud needs a DTU-WLite-S or a DTU-Pro-S, bought separately. The HM-700 package includes the inverter, balcony brackets and a 3 m lead that ends in an EU embedded plug, and it still includes no panel and no named gateway. Confirm the label against the title before the first connector clicks. On the HMS-1000 listing the title and a bullet do not agree about panel count, wattage or voltage. On the HM-700 listing the MPP line says 16–20 V DC while the Europe HM sheet says 16–60 V. The thing you connect is the label in your hand. The suffix check sits in the Hoymiles inverter buying guide.

DC, then AC

The 2T manual’s order is the sequence to keep, with the limit that it does not identify these ASINs. Put the microinverter and the DC connections under the module, silver side towards the module, with at least 2 cm of clearance. Keep the grid disconnect open, and keep the modules shaded or otherwise isolated, until the DC side is made. On the HMS-1800 listing the maximum input is 65 V. If the panel’s cold open-circuit voltage is above the number on the label, stop. Connect DC only inside the window the label prints. Then connect the AC end the product actually has. For the HM-700 package that end is Betteri BC01 to the EU plug already on the 3 m lead. For the HMS listings the connector is not named. Do not move the HM lead onto an HMS inverter, and do not cut either connector to force a match. A new circuit stays with a competent person.

Gateway after the inverter is on the AC side

AC power and monitoring are different steps. The microinverter can feed the AC side without a DTU. It cannot show module data or take a remote limit without the matching gateway. The DTU-WLite-S manual says the gateway works with HMS and HMT, not with the older HM radio. Power the matching DTU only after the microinverter is on the AC side, then create the site and add the microinverter IDs. The HM-700 package needs the older 2.4 GHz DTU family if you want data, and the listing does not name that part. The radio split is on the Hoymiles HMS vs HM page.

Where you stop and tell the network

Fully type-tested micro-generation at or under 16 A per phase, about 3.68 kW, is the connect-and-notify path: the installation is commissioned, and the installer sends the G98 notification to the distribution network operator within 28 days. Above that current, the application comes before the connection. An ENA form that lists HMS-600W-2T to HMS-1000W-2T does not prove the reference for the unit in the carton. Stop and hand the job to a competent person when the circuit is new. On a dwelling in England, Approved Document P brings that photovoltaic work into electrical-safety scope. Scotland and Northern Ireland use their own building rules. Also stop if the phase may exceed 16 A, the label and the live register disagree, or someone would have to cut or adapt a connector, including the HM-700’s EU plug.

Common questions

What order do DC, AC and the gateway go in?
Confirm the label, keep the grid disconnect open and the panels covered or isolated, and place the microinverter under the module with clearance. Connect DC only inside the voltage window on the label, then the AC end that this product actually has. Power the matching DTU after that if you want module data. The gateway does not come first.
Can a Hoymiles inverter feed the mains with no DTU?
It can produce AC without a DTU. Both HMS listings still say a DTU-WLite-S or DTU-Pro-S is required for S-Miles Cloud, and that part is not in the box. Without it you do not get module data or remote limits.
Which DTU matches which listing?
The HMS listings name DTU-WLite-S or DTU-Pro-S. Those S gateways are documented for HMS and HMT on Sub-1G, not for the HM family. The HM-700 package does not name a DTU. Its generation uses the older 2.4 GHz gateway.
When do you notify, and when must you ask first?
After commissioning, a fully type-tested unit that keeps the phase at or under 16 A is notified to your DNO within 28 days. If the installation may sit above that, the G99 application comes before you connect. You need the device reference from the register.
Does the HM-700’s EU plug change the sequence?
It changes the AC end, not the order. The kept lead is already Betteri BC01 to an EU embedded plug. You still isolate, connect DC inside the window, and only then deal with AC. You do not cut that plug, fit a UK 13 A plug, or use an adaptor.
Who has to do a new circuit on a dwelling in England?
A competent person. Approved Document P brings photovoltaic work that adds a circuit on a dwelling in England into the electrical-safety rules. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own building rules. A successful app login is not that sign-off.
