Best tile drill bit for the job you actually have

Updated: October 2026

You searched for the best tile drill bit, and the star line is doing too much work. A 5.0 from 7 reviews and a 4.4 from 8,505 reviews are not the same kind of evidence. This page, from the Products Compared editorial team on 15 October 2026, uses the amazon.co.uk listings in our [tile drill bits](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/tile-drill-bit) comparison. We did not drill a test panel. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. For each job it names the listing that fits the evidence, who should skip it, and the review count beside the stars.

The rule this page uses

Prefer the listing whose reviews talk about the job you actually have, and read the count beside the average. A high average with a tiny count does not win. LEKOMESH shows 5.0 from 7 reviews, with one text stored. BGTEC shows 4.9 from 20 reviews, with three texts stored. Neither average tells you much about a porcelain floor. Zeeorymn is about £5.99 and 4.3 from 74 reviews. The file includes cooled cuts and a warning that the bits will not make a hole. If you cannot yet say ceramic or porcelain, use the tile drill bit buying guide before this shortlist.

If the tile is ordinary ceramic and you need plug sizes

For glazed ceramic and a plug, the large samples are carbide spears. QWORK is about £6.98, rated 4.4 from 8,505 reviews, with spears from 6 mm to 12 mm. Reviews include an easy ceramic hole after a cold-water dip, 18 ceramic wall holes with slight glaze chipping, snapped tips, and a warning about hammer mode. That is the best value here for ordinary ceramic. SabreCut, 4.2 from 9,460 reviews, includes one porcelain attempt that stopped at about 1 mm. None of these spears is a Bosch HEX-9. If the box says porcelain, or fully vitrified, read the drill bit for porcelain tiles page.

If you need one porcelain diameter and you own a grinder

SHDIATOOL is about £15.99, rated 4.4 from 770 reviews: two 6 mm M14 dry diamond cores, diamond height stated as 10 mm. The piece-count field says 20 and the title says two. Reviews include 13 bathroom-porcelain holes on one bit, a timed floor hole, and a burn if you do not start at an angle. Look at this pair when the hole is 6 mm, the tile is porcelain, and an angle grinder is already in the house. Skip it for a drill chuck. The adapter is not in the box. DKIBBITH, about £12.99 and 4.3 from 414 reviews, is the better-sampled dry diamond set for a chuck. It is not a reason to jam an M14 core into one.

What not to crown

Zeeorymn's diamond title did not stop reviews that say the bits will not make a hole. A low price is a trial you can return, and a poor plan if the tile is already fixed. BGTEC at about £39.99 reaches 50 mm on a straight shank. Three texts sit under the 4.9 from 20 reviews. LEKOMESH, also about £39.99, is M14, drills to 35 mm, and adds a 50 mm chamfer, under a 5.0 from 7 reviews. Neither kit won a saw test we did not run.

The bit that is not in this basket

Bosch's HEX-9 is carbide, and it is the exception the diamond-only pages leave out. A 3 mm bit is £15.48 on the Bosch Professional GB shop. "Up to 10x" means versus Bosch CYL-9, not versus QWORK, SabreCut or HPMAISON. It is sold for dry drilling in hard tiles, and it is not one of the twelve ASINs. A spear does not become a HEX-9 because a bullet says porcelain.

Common questions

What is the best tile drill bit if you only say best?
There is no single answer that survives a change of tile. The rule is the job plus the review count. For ordinary ceramic plugs, the large samples are QWORK, SabreCut and HPMAISON. For one 6 mm porcelain hole on a grinder you already own, SHDIATOOL has the finished-hole reports. A 5.0 from 7 reviews does not beat either rule. If you cannot name the tile, you are not ready for a shortlist.
Is the 5.0 hole-saw kit the best because nothing scored higher?
No. LEKOMESH shows 5.0 from 7 reviews, and one text is stored. BGTEC shows 4.9 from 20, with three texts. BGTEC's useful fact is a straight shank and sizes up to 50 mm. LEKOMESH's useful fact is an M14 shank, holes to 35 mm, and a 50 mm chamfer. You still size the hole from the tap sheet.
Is the cheapest diamond set the best value?
Zeeorymn is the cheap diamond set here, at about £5.99 and 4.3 from 74 reviews. The file includes cooled cuts and a bit that will not cut. DKIBBITH at about £12.99 has 414 reviews and a hard-floor report, with diamond wearing off the leading edge. QWORK remains the best value when the tile is ordinary ceramic.
When is SHDIATOOL the one to look at?
Look at it for a 6 mm hole in porcelain when an M14 angle grinder is already yours. The sample is 4.4 from 770 reviews, and the stored jobs include bathroom porcelain. Skip it if you only have a drill chuck, because the adapter is not in the box, and skip it if the plug is 8 mm or 10 mm. The piece-count field says 20. The title says two bits.
Should you leave this comparison and buy a Bosch HEX-9 instead?
Leave if you want the fine-ground carbide Bosch sells for hard tiles and porcelain, dry, and you accept that "up to 10x" means versus Bosch CYL-9. A 3 mm HEX-9 is £15.48 on the Bosch Professional GB shop. It is not in this basket. Stay if the tile is glazed ceramic and a spear with thousands of reviews matches the plug.
