Einhell combi drill vs impact driver

Updated: 2026-10-23

You are looking at one amazon.co.uk listing with two Einhell tools, and the table prints a torque that belongs to only one of them. The choice is the job in your hand: a round hole and ordinary screws, or a long screw a clutch will not finish. Products Compared used article 4257214 and Einhell's twinpack page on 21 October 2026. What the combi does

A combi drill has a keyless chuck, a numbered clutch and a hammer mode. The chuck holds round-shank bits. The clutch clicks when a screw is home, which is what you want in furniture and brackets. Hammer mode adds blows along the bit for light masonry. Toolstation's UK guide separates that from an impact driver: the combi hammers along the bit, and the driver hammers in rotation. If you only own the combi, long decking screws are slow work in low gear, with the clutch high or on drill. You will not match the driver for a box of 100 mm screws.

What the impact driver does

An impact driver has a 1/4 inch hex collet. It takes driver bits, not a 13 mm twist drill, unless you accept a rougher hole from a hex-shank bit. There is no clutch. It keeps impacting until you release the trigger, so it seats long screws and can oversink a short brass screw. Currys' UK guide puts a combi first for shelves, plugs and furniture, and an impact driver on the list for decking, fences and long screws. It cannot stand in for hammer mode on a wall plug. That limit is on the Einhell cordless combi drill brick page.

What article 4257214 puts in the box

ASIN B06W2JYKSC is the twinpack at £114.51: a drill/screwdriver, an impact driver, two batteries and a charger. The highlight adds a bag, 44 Nm on the drill/driver and 2,300 rpm on the driver. Einhell's page names a TE-CD 18/2 Li-i at 44 Nm with a 13 mm chuck, plus a TE-CI 18/1 Li and two 2.0 Ah packs. The shop showed £144.95 on 21 October 2026. This page keeps £114.51. The amazon table prints 140 Nm. Einhell puts 44 Nm on the combi and 140 Nm on the driver. The special-features cell says brushless. A UK review says the set is not, and Einhell's description does not confirm it. The packs are Power X-Change.

When you want both

Buy the twinpack when the work is both jobs: a fence, a deck or long screws, plus ordinary holes. Drill the pilot with the combi, then drive the long screw with the impact driver. At £114.51 you are paying for the second tool. Ignore 140 Nm as a combi figure, and do not treat the brushless cell as settled. Stay with a single combi for shelves, flat-pack and a few plugs. The £75 kit or the £44 kit does that without a driver left in the bag. Hammer mode for brick stays on the combi. Clutch numbers for ordinary screws are on the how to use an Einhell cordless combi drill page.

Common questions

What is the difference between the two tools in the twinpack?
The combi has a chuck, a clutch and hammer mode for holes, ordinary screws and light brick. The impact driver has a hex collet and no clutch, for long screws and bolts. Einhell lists them as the TE-CD 18/2 and the TE-CI 18/1 in article 4257214. They share two 2.0 Ah packs.
Which number is the combi's torque?
44 Nm. That is the amazon highlight and the figure Einhell gives the combi. The 140 Nm cell is the impact driver's hard torque. Do not describe the set as a 140 Nm combi.
Can the impact driver drill a plug hole?
No. Plug holes need a masonry bit in a chuck and hammer blows along the bit. The driver impacts in rotation and holds hex bits. It will not make a clean round hole for a wall plug. Use the combi's hammer mode for light brick, or hire an SDS for hard concrete. The driver stays in the bag for that hole.
Can the combi drive a long decking screw?
It can, in low gear, and it will be slower. A low clutch number clicks before a long screw is home. For a box of decking screws the driver is the tool. For furniture screws the combi is the better control, because the clutch stops it.
Do they share the Power X-Change packs?
Yes. The carton has two batteries and one charger, and Einhell's page describes two 2.0 Ah packs for both tools. You move a pack from the combi to the driver. They are Einhell's 18 V family and do not fit another brand.
Is the set brushless?
Do not treat it as brushless. The amazon cell says brushless, a UK review says the tools are not, and Einhell's description does not confirm the cell. Buy the pair for the two mechanisms. The kit that states brushless in the bullets is the single combi at £75.
Who should buy a single combi and skip the driver?
Buy a single combi for shelves, flat-pack and a few plugs. At £114.51 the twinpack charges you for a second body. The driver earns its place on long screws, decking and fence rails. The 140 Nm figure should not change that.
