Einhell cordless combi drill for brick

Updated: 2026-10-23

You need a hole for a wall plug, the wall looks like brick, and the box says hammer. An Einhell cordless combi drill here can do that in light brick with hammer mode and a masonry bit. It is not a rotary hammer, and one review of the cheapest kit failed in brick. Products Compared used the amazon.co.uk listings on 21 October 2026. There was no drilled wall. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The kits are on the [Einhell cordless combi drill comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/einhell-cordless-combi-drill).

What hammer mode is for

Hammer mode is blows along the bit while it turns, for a plug hole in brick or block with a masonry bit. It is not an impact driver, and it is not an SDS rotary hammer for hard concrete, lintels or chasing. Currys' UK guide says a combi can drill light masonry, and that very hard concrete wants an SDS. Toolstation says forcing a combi can burn the motor. Einhell's page for the TE-CD 18/44 says the impact function is for brick and stone, and also uses the word concrete. Treat that as the manufacturer's claim. A 6 mm or 7 mm bit is the job these reviews describe. Hammer left off in brick makes dust and almost no progress.

How hard to push

Push firmly enough that the blows work, and ease off if the chuck stalls. If you have to lean with your body weight, you are past what this combi should do. Withdraw to clear dust, then go back in. A plug hole in soft brick is a few seconds. If you are still there after a minute with the motor labouring, stop. Collar settings are on the how to use an Einhell cordless combi drill page.

What UK buyers in this set reported

On the £44 TE-CD 18/44, one home user had little success in brick and was fine in shed timber. Do not buy that kit on a promise of easy masonry. The buying guide covers the missing case. On the £75 kit, one reviewer called brick, block and wood easy. The amazon chuck cell prints 10 mm and Einhell's sheet says 13 mm. On the £110 TE-CD 18/40, one reviewer found brick and wood easy, and the box lists five masonry bits. The two-pin charger stops you starting. The impact driver in article 4257214 does not drill a plug hole. Its 140 Nm cell is the driver. The combi in that carton is 44 Nm.

When to hire

Hire an SDS for a concrete lintel, for chasing, and for any wall where you cannot say what is behind the plaster. A jammed chuck, or a pack that will not charge, is also a stop. If the bit glazes and the motor bogs down, you have left the plug-hole job. For paid work, the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 set an action value of 2.5 m/s² A(8) and a limit of 5 m/s² A(8). No listing here prints a vibration figure. A few plugs at home are not an employer assessment. Who the top pick is for, once the wall is ordinary brick, is on the best Einhell cordless combi drill page.

Common questions

Can this Einhell drill make holes for wall plugs?
It can in light brick, with hammer mode on and a masonry bit. Reviews include easy brick on the 50 Nm and 40 Nm kits, and one failed attempt on the £44 kit. A 6 mm or 7 mm plug hole is the job. Hard concrete is not. If the motor stalls, stop.
Which mode and which bit?
Use the hammer symbol and a masonry bit. Drill mode is for wood and metal. The clutch is for screws. An impact driver's hex bits do not make a round plug hole. Hammer left off in brick feels like a weak drill when the collar is simply wrong.
Why did one reviewer fail in brick?
On the £44 TE-CD 18/44, one home user had little success in brick and was fine in shed timber. The listing still states hammer mode and 44 Nm. Do not buy that kit on a promise of easy masonry. If the wall matches that struggle, hire an SDS.
Is concrete the same job?
No. Light brick and block are the combi job. Hard concrete, lintels and chasing want an SDS rotary hammer. Einhell's marketing for the 18/44 uses the word concrete. That is a claim on the product page, not evidence from these listings that the drill finished concrete. If the bit glazes and the motor labours, you have left the plug-hole job.
Will the impact driver in the twinpack drill brick?
No. The impact driver hits in rotation and holds hex bits. It does not replace hammer mode. The 140 Nm cell on article 4257214 is that driver's torque, not a masonry rating for the combi. The combi in the same box is the tool with the chuck. For a plug hole, leave the driver in the bag.
Does vibration law apply to a few plugs at home?
A handful of plugs at home is not an employer assessment. The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 apply to paid work: 2.5 m/s² A(8) action value and 5 m/s² A(8) limit. No listing here prints a vibration figure.
