Best drill pump

Updated: 2026-10-23

You want one attachment for the odd water butt, paddling pool or fish tank, and you do not want to read eleven rows before you buy. In this amazon.co.uk set on 19 October 2026, the best drill pump for occasional clear water is the Gardena 1490-20 if you want the highest score and a large review file, and the ESENO if you already have a mains drill and can prime it. Prices and the full table are in the [drill pump comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/drill-pump). Products Compared used the listings and stored UK reviews, not a lab flow test. Top pick and best value

The top pick in this set is the Gardena 1490-20 at £35.12, with 4.4 from 4,395 reviews and a claimed 2400 litres per hour. Stored UK reviews describe a useful flow for a pond, a sump and a fish tank, and several people hold it rather than screwing it to a board. The bullets name two connectors, while the included-components field says No, so check the parcel. The height field prints 30 metres and does not say suction or delivery. The English manual separates about 3 metres of suction from about 30 metres of pumping height. The best value is the ESENO at £14.95, with 4.2 from 3,899 reviews and a claimed 3000 litres per hour at 3000 rpm. The first 50 stored reviews are marked United Kingdom and cover paddling pools, water butts and a narrowboat bilge once the arrows were followed. Hoses are not included. The connectors are Hozelock-style for 13 mm hose, and the listing prefers a mains drill.

Who should skip them

Skip both for petrol, sewage, or anything people will drink. Gardena's manual excludes flammable liquids, food and continuous running. No listing here shows an ATEX mark or a drinking-water approval, and a gasoline line on a cheaper title is not a workaround. Skip them if the job is daily watering, or if the water is silty. Gardena reviews already say a dirty drain was a poor match and that the drill got very hot. ESENO reviews include shaft leaks and one failure to suck 2 metres from a well. Anti-clockwise running produced only air. If you do not own a drill, the attachment is not the cheap option, because the drill is the motor. That case is drill pump or an electric pump.

Draper, Clarke and Flintronic

A familiar brand is not automatically the pick. The Draper 18937 is £13.99, with 3.4 from 420 reviews and a claimed 1000 litres per hour. Stored UK notes say it works after priming and that suction is poor, including one lift of about half a metre. Two 13 mm adaptors are in the box. The hose is not. Clarke's CPP3000B is £17.42, with 3.9 from 322 reviews and a claimed flow up to 50 litres per minute. The bullets split a 2 metre suction from a 15 metre pumping head. It wants at least 350 W and a 19 mm hose bought separately. A cordless water-butt attempt failed. Flintronic, at £14.44 and 3.8 from 598 reviews, includes one 2 metre hose. The title says 900 litres per hour and the field says 30 litres per minute. Water passing the shaft is common, and a bullet names fuel and gasoline, which is not a test.

Listings under £12

On 19 October 2026 the band from about £8 to £12 does not read as cheap and fine for a one-off. FOCCTS at £10.99 claims 40 litres per minute and scores 2.5 from 180 reviews, with no flow or a split housing in many of the first 50 UK texts. Wjelet at £7.97 is 2.1 from 42 and failed on first use. Tarqite, also £7.97, is 2.6 from five, with no pump-out in the three UK texts. Ausla at £10.62 and JASOLYI at £11.98 are each 1.0 from two reviews that say the pumps did not work. Tenflyer at £11.80 is 3.3 from 41. How those limits are chosen is in the drill pump buying guide.

Common questions

Which drill pump should I buy for occasional water?
For occasional clear water in this set, buy the Gardena 1490-20 if you want the highest score, at £35.12 and 4.4 from 4,395 reviews on 19 October 2026. Buy the ESENO at £14.95 if you already have a mains drill and will prime it. Neither is a pump you leave running in a silty butt.
Is the Gardena worth about £35 against the ESENO at about £15?
It is worth the gap if you want the larger review file and the manual's limits. It is not worth it if £15 is the budget and you can follow the ESENO arrows and flood the suction side. The 30 metre height field is not labelled as suction.
Is the Draper 18937 the one to buy because it is a known brand?
No. It is £13.99 and 3.4 from 420 reviews, and the stored notes describe poor suction, including one lift of about half a metre. The score is why it is not the top pick or the best value in this set.
Why not the cheapest listing?
Because the stored reviews often show no flow. Tarqite and Wjelet are both £7.97. Tarqite's three stored UK texts do not describe a pump-out. Wjelet's file, 2.1 from 42, includes pumps that came apart on first use.
Who should skip a drill pump entirely?
Skip it for petrol, for water people will drink, for sewage or a rising flood, and for a hose you use every dry evening. Also skip it if you have no drill, because the drill is the motor you are about to overheat.
Does a high flow claim beat a high review count?
Not here. Clarke's claimed 50 litres per minute and FOCCTS's claimed 40 litres per minute sit below the ESENO and the Gardena, which have thousands of reviews and lower headline flows. We did not measure one.
