Best diamond core bit: who each listing is for

Updated: 2026-10-23

You already own an SDS combi, and you need one hole: a waste through brick, or a tap through porcelain. A search for the best diamond core bit puts a £12.99 tile cup beside a 107 mm barrel. This page shortlists the twelve amazon.co.uk listings in our [diamond core bit comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/diamond-core-bit) and says who should buy each one, and who should skip it. The Products Compared editorial team used those listings and UK shelf prices from 20 October 2026. We did not laboratory-test the bits. Two shortlists, not one winner

A diamond core bit here is either a steel barrel for masonry or a short cup or wax bit for tile. The barrels use a 1/2 inch BSP thread, usually with an SDS adaptor. The tile bits are mostly M14, for a small angle grinder, unless a hex adaptor is in the box. Wax inside a small vacuum-brazed bit is for porcelain without a hose. Meccion at £12.99 is a 40 mm cup. MOXPIFY's 107 mm set at £47.99 is a masonry barrel. The cup will not do the brick hole, and the barrel is the wrong tool on a glazed tile. Match diameter, thread and cooling before you trust a price or a star line. Those trade-offs are in the diamond core bit buying guide.

Masonry barrels in this set

For a 52 mm hole in brick or block, SALI at £34.99 states a laser weld and a dry preference, with SDS and hex adaptors on a 150 mm barrel (4.1 from 88 reviews). Skip it if you need a water feed named on the card. MOXPIFY's 52 mm set (£31.99) and 72 mm set (£35.99) say wet or dry and include a 240 mm SDS adaptor. Both show one shared 4.7 from 83 reviews. The 107 mm MOXPIFY set is £47.99 with that same 4.7. Call a professional rather than using a light SDS drill. DaduoRi at £30.99 has no reviews and excludes concrete and stone. DaduoRi Pro does not state cooling. Starrett's BMC117 is the bit alone. Buy it only if you already own the arbor. Pipe clearance is on the diamond core bit for a soil pipe page.

Tile cups and wax bits

Meccion at £12.99 suits one 40 mm tile hole if you will use water, at 500–800 rpm (4.2 from 815 reviews). Skip it for brick, and skip it if you need the shank named. INQUIRLLY at £22.99 is twelve cutters at 3.5 from five reviews. The title says 6–50 mm, a contents bullet also lists 68 mm, and the shank is not stated. SHDIATOOL at £28.99 is five 6 mm M14 wax bits that say not to add water (4.4 from 770). Skip it without an angle grinder. LEKOMESH at £43.99 is ten, and the drill adaptor is not in the box. FACHLICH at £109.99 includes a hex adaptor and bans impact mode (4.5 from 173). A spec line says 20 mm while eight cutter sizes are listed. Skip it for one small hole. Cooling choices are on the wet or dry diamond core bit page.

What the stars cannot prove

Scaling a star line to 100 is not a lab rank. DaduoRi's 44 mm file has no reviews, and an empty file is not a hidden top score. On 20 October 2026, Toolstation listed a Mexco 52 mm dry core at £28.99 including VAT, and Screwfix listed an Erbauer 52 mm at £34.39 including VAT. SALI and the MOXPIFY 52 mm set sit in that band. This is a shelf check, not a test of the Amazon bits. Mexco's hammer-off and 850 W notes do not transfer as a score. None of these listings claims BS EN 13236. A lintel, a party wall or a service in the wall needs a professional.

Common questions

Which listing is for one brick hole, and which is for porcelain?
Brick or block needs a masonry barrel: SALI at £34.99 for a stated dry 52 mm cut, or a MOXPIFY 52 or 72 mm set if you accept one shared 4.7. Porcelain needs a cup or a wax bit, not that barrel.
Why is the cheapest cup not the best barrel?
Meccion at £12.99 is a coated 40 mm hole saw for tile, porcelain, glass, marble and ceramic. It is not an SDS barrel. The lower price buys another family.
Can the MOXPIFY 4.7 be used three times?
No. The 52 mm, 72 mm and 107 mm listings show one 4.7 from 83 reviews, with matching texts. That is one star line copied three times. Pick the diameter, and call a professional for about 107 mm on a light SDS drill.
What do you do with a listing that has no reviews?
DaduoRi's 44 mm set at £30.99 has no review line. Emptiness is not a hidden high score. The bullets name a 44 mm barrel, a 110 mm SDS Plus adaptor, water, and an exclusion of concrete and stone.
When is a bare 117 mm bit the wrong buy even if the diameter matches?
Starrett's BMC117 at £29.91 is the bit alone on a straight shank. No adaptor, pilot or case is listed. A 4.5 from 365 reviews does not add the arbor.
Is a ten-piece 6 mm set better than a five-piece 6 mm set?
Only if you will use the extra bits. SHDIATOOL at £28.99 is five wax-filled M14 bits. LEKOMESH at £43.99 is ten, and the drill adaptor is not in the box. For one hole, piece count is not a quality score.
