Bosch green or blue drill: which pack you already own

Updated: 22 October 2026

Both tools say 18 V, and the packs do not click into each other. For a Bosch green or blue drill, the test is the battery on the shelf. A POWER FOR ALL pack runs the green combi and will not run a GSB. A GBA, ProCORE or AMPShare pack runs the blue combi and will not run an EasyImpact. The [Bosch combi drill comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/bosch-combi-drill) is the ten rows from 19 October 2026. There is no lab test. The name tells you the system

Read the model name, not the shared 18 V. EasyImpact, UniversalImpact and AdvancedImpact are Home and Garden on POWER FOR ALL, and every green row here includes a pack. GSB is Professional 18 V, and every blue row is a body with no pack and no charger. A GSR is a drill driver. A hex impact driver is a different tool, even if a cell says impact driver. Grey AMPShare packs are the same interface as red Professional packs. Grey does not mean Home and Garden.

What clicks in, and what does not

Bosch’s AMPShare page says Professional packs and chargers back to 2008 work with AMPShare tools, and that those tools do not work with POWER FOR ALL. The alliance says the systems will not be unified. Green DIY compatibility runs back to 2007, with exceptions Bosch names. There is no converter for a blue pack on a green tool. UK reviews on the GSB 18V-25 describe Home and Garden packs that did not fit, including a return. If the pack will not seat, stop forcing it. Empty blue boxes are priced on the best Bosch combi drill page.

Chargers are part of the same fork

The charger follows the pack. The EasyImpact 18V-40 manual names AL 1814 CV, AL 1820 CV, AL 1860 CV and AL 2215 CV as not for a PBA pack. A green pack on one of those is the same mistake as a green pack on a GSB. Green kits here include AL 18V-20, except the UniversalImpact 18, which includes AL 1810 CV. No GSB listing includes a charger. A GB charger needs a BS 1363 plug. An Office for Product Safety and Standards report rejected a non-Bosch charger for poor isolation. That report is not these kits. It is why a random 18 V charger is not a stand-in.

If you own nothing yet, buy the system you will add to

Green POWER FOR ALL packs stay on EasyImpact, UniversalImpact or AdvancedImpact. GBA, ProCORE or AMPShare packs can take a GSB, with a pack and charger budgeted, because all four blue rows here are empty. An empty shelf starts with an EasyImpact kit, so the drill runs the day it arrives. A lower GSB sticker still needs a Professional pack. Blue is not “for concrete” and green is not “for cupboards”. A combi hammer is not an SDS. Chuck and box contents are the buying guide.

Common questions

Will my green Bosch battery run a blue GSB?
No. POWER FOR ALL packs do not run Professional 18 V tools. Bosch states that the systems are not interchangeable. UK reviews on the GSB 18V-25 listing describe the same refusal, including a return. If the green pack will not click in, that is the design, not a defect in the drill you just unboxed.
Will a ProCORE or AMPShare pack run an EasyImpact?
No. ProCORE and AMPShare packs belong to the Professional 18 V system. The EasyImpact, UniversalImpact and AdvancedImpact in this set are POWER FOR ALL tools. Bosch says AMPShare tools do not work with POWER FOR ALL, and the alliance says the systems will not be unified. The pack may look similar. The foot is coded so it does not seat.
Are both tools 18 V, and does that mean the packs match?
Both ranges are 18 V, and the packs do not match. Voltage is the battery class printed on the housing. It is not a compatibility mark. Green Home and Garden packs and blue Professional packs are different interfaces. You can own two 18 V Bosch batteries and still have one that will not run the drill in your hand.
How far back do the packs go inside their own system?
Bosch says green 18 V lithium-ion compatibility on the DIY range runs back to 2007, with exceptions it names. Professional packs inside the blue system, including AMPShare, run back to 2008. Those dates are not every pack ever sold. Check the exception list for an old pack before you assume a 2009 hobby battery is still the right foot.
Can I charge a green pack on a blue Professional charger?
Not on the Professional chargers the EasyImpact manual excludes. The en-GB footnote names AL 1814 CV, AL 1820 CV, AL 1860 CV and AL 2215 CV as not compatible with the PBA pack. Use the charger Bosch specifies for that pack. In these green kits that is AL 18V-20, or AL 1810 CV on the UniversalImpact 18 listing.
I own neither system. Which combi do I start with?
Start with an EasyImpact kit if this is a house drill and you do not already live in the Professional system. The kit includes a pack, a charger and a case. A bare GSB is the start only when you intend to keep buying GBA, ProCORE or AMPShare packs. The lower body price is not a complete kit.
Is a grey AMPShare pack the same thing as a green Home and Garden pack?
No. Grey AMPShare packs are the Professional 18 V interface, the same system as the red Professional packs. Green Home and Garden packs are POWER FOR ALL. The plastic colour inside the blue range does not move a pack across to the green tools. Read the system name on the pack, not only the colour of the shell.
