Window seals compared 2026

The best window seals, compared.

Top pick: Storm Patrol uPVC gasket, 25 m, black Best value: UPSEN D-profile foam seal, 10 m, white – 10 m at about £4.99, about £0.50 a metre, with 4.3 from 3,025 ratings, the largest review count in this set. Updated October 2026.

A window seal closes the gap where an opening window meets its frame, or it replaces the rubber that used to do that job. In a UK home that is usually a uPVC casement whose bubble seal has gone hard, or a timber or metal frame with no groove. You want the draught gone without a new window. The useful seal is the one whose profile matches the gap you measured, that springs back, and that still lets the handle lock. Too thick, and the window will not shut. Self-adhesive foam is the cheaper, shorter-life option Energy Saving Trust describes. A push-in gasket is the repair when the original rubber still has a groove. The [window seal buying guide](/hub/door-and-window-security/window-seal/sub/window-seal-buying-guide) is where measuring the gap sits, before you pick a profile from this table.

The best window seals in detail

Storm Patrol uPVC gasket, 25 m, black

Rank 1

Storm Patrol uPVC gasket, 25 m, black

∼£20

Our view

Storm Patrol is a push-in rubber bubble for an existing uPVC groove, listed for frames of 3–5 mm, on a 25 m coil. You cut it with scissors and press it into the slot after the old seal is out. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.5 from 306 ratings, at about £20.18, and the listing says the seal is made in the United Kingdom. Reviewers used it to replace perished, flat or brittle seals, and at least one 25-year-old window set was quieter than with the degraded rubber. The bubble is deeper than an earlier Storm Guard seal one buyer had fitted, and a soak in hot water softened stiff lengths. Tight grooves are the recurring snag: one door seal would not go in by hand, and a plastic scraper or lubricant comes up in the reviews. The profile can sit thicker than the old seal, so the door stays stiff until the rubber settles, and fitting both sash and frame at once made one window hard to close.

Pros

  • Push-in gasket for a stated 3–5 mm uPVC groove, not stick-on tape
  • 25 m coil, with length left over on some multi-window jobs
  • 4.5 from 306 ratings, and the listing says it is made in the UK
  • No early tear or smell pattern in the 50 reviews on file

Cons

  • Tight grooves need a scraper or lubricant
  • Thicker than some old seals, so the door or window closes stiffly at first
  • Once seated it can be hard to pull back out
  • About £20.18 is the highest price in this set

Best for: Replacing a perished uPVC window or door gasket when you have measured a 3–5 mm groove.

Less suitable: A frame with no groove, and a sash you need to close easily on the same day you fit both sides.

Common questions

Does this push into a uPVC groove?

It is a rubber bubble gasket, not stick-on tape. The listing says it fits frames, windows and doors from 3–5 mm and tells you to measure first. Reviewers pushed it into the existing slot.

Can a thicker bubble stop the door closing?

One reviewer found this profile a little thicker than the old seal, so the door was stiff until the rubber settled. Another sealed only one side first so the window would still close.

How long is the coil?

The title gives 25 metres. Some reviewers resealed several windows and still had length left. One buyer ran out and ordered a second coil.

Tarqite uPVC gasket, black

Rank 2

Tarqite uPVC gasket, black

Our view

Tarqite is a push-in EPDM gasket for a uPVC groove, and the three reviews on file say it is easy to fit once the old seal is out. One of those reviews covered a door and had enough length for that single job. Another reported a large difference to draughts and noise on one window, then ran out after that one large window. The listing does not agree with itself on length: the title says 6 m, the unit count and the included-components line say 8 m, and the item-length field says 80 cm. There is no foot width in millimetres, so you cannot match it to a groove before it arrives. The star line is 4.5 from 9 ratings, at about £7.89, which is too small a sample to treat as a stable result. No tear or groove-mismatch shows up in those three reviews.

Pros

  • Push-in gasket, cut with scissors, with no special tools claimed
  • Easy to fit once the old seal is out, in the three reviews on file
  • One window was less draughty and quieter
  • About £7.89, below the 25 m Storm Patrol coil

Cons

  • Only 9 ratings, and the saved review file has three reviews
  • Length fields disagree: 6 m, 8 m and 80 cm
  • One coil was only enough for one large window
  • No groove width in millimetres

Best for: A single uPVC window whose old gasket you can already pull out, if you measure the coil when it arrives.

Less suitable: A whole house of windows, or any order where the stated length has to be right before you start.

Common questions

How long is the Tarqite coil?

The title says 6 m. Included components say 1 x 8 m, the unit count is 8.0 metre, and the item-length field is 80 cm. One of three reviews was only enough for one large window.

How does it fit?

It is a push-in gasket. The listing says to cut it with scissors, remove the old seal, clean the residue and press it into the groove. No foot width is given.

Is the star rating based on many reviews?

The listing shows 4.5 from 9 reviews. The saved file contains three of them, all short, so there is no stable complaint pattern beyond length.

YANKUIRUI D-profile foam seal, 6 m, white

Rank 3

YANKUIRUI D-profile foam seal, 6 m, white

Our view

The YANKUIRUI strip is a 9 mm by 6 mm EPDM D-seal, sold as two 3 m pieces that make 6 m, for a gap the listing puts at 3–6 mm. You cut it with scissors and stick it to the frame; there is no drilling. Across 2,938 amazon.co.uk ratings it sits at 4.4, at about £4.49, and it is the top pick in this set because the section and the gap are both printed and the review sample is large. Reviewers report a visible draught stopping on a warped uPVC window and on a poorly fitting door, and the D-profile compresses when the window shuts. One review mentions less outside noise on a door. The adhesive is the limit: it holds on a smooth painted frame and lifts on a dusty or uneven one, and some buyers replace the strip once the glue dries out. The same thickness can stop a door closing if you place it on the wrong angle, so a test offcut is worth doing, and some buyers found the section smaller than they expected.

Pros

  • 9 mm by 6 mm D-profile with a stated 3–6 mm gap
  • 6 m as two 3 m pieces, cut with scissors and no drilling
  • 4.4 from 2,938 ratings at about £4.49
  • Compresses as the window shuts and has stopped draughts on warped uPVC

Cons

  • Adhesive is weak on dusty or uneven frames and can dry out
  • Can stop a door closing if the strip sits on the wrong angle
  • Some buyers found the section smaller than they expected

Best for: A white uPVC or painted frame with a gap of about 3–6 mm, where you want a stick-on D-seal rather than a push-in gasket.

Less suitable: A perished seal that still sits in a uPVC groove, and a door that already closes tightly.

Common questions

What gap does this D-seal state?

The listing states a suitable gap of 3–6 mm for a 9 mm by 6 mm D-profile. You get two pieces of 3 m, 6 m in total. Reviewers who found the section smaller than they expected were checking the size after it arrived.

Do I need tools to fit it?

The listing says there is no drilling or screwing. Scissors are enough to cut it. Reviews describe measuring, peeling the backing and sticking it to the frame.

Does the listing say it is waterproof?

Yes. The title and bullets call this EPDM tape waterproof. That is the seller’s claim. The listing file has no test certificate.

Bynsaer D-profile foam seal, 6 m, white

Rank 4

Bynsaer D-profile foam seal, 6 m, white

Our view

Bynsaer’s white D-foam is listed for a 3–5 mm gap, and the title’s 6 m is the length after the roll is split, so the unsplit coil is 3 m. At about £4.49 it matches the cheapest shelf price here, with 4.4 from 2,420 ratings. Reviewers have blocked draughts on doors, attic windows, patio doors and a loft hatch, and one split strip sealed the head of a casement that had a manufacturing gap. You get a strong grab on a frame washed with white spirit, and one summerhouse door held. The same thickness stops some doors closing fully. The backing tears after a short length and needs a knife to start again. Adhesive is the other limit: one prepared painted frame lost the strip after a day, and another window peeled later. One buyer wrote that they would staple it because the glue might not hold.

Pros

  • Stated gap of 3–5 mm at about £4.49
  • 4.4 from 2,420 ratings
  • Blocks draughts on patio doors, attic windows and a loft hatch
  • Strong grab on a frame cleaned with white spirit

Cons

  • 6 m is the length only after the roll is split
  • Too thick for some doors, which then do not close fully
  • Backing tears, and the strip can peel off within a day
  • One reviewer resorted to stapling because the glue might not hold

Best for: A cleaned painted frame with a gap of about 3–5 mm, if you split the roll and check the door still shuts.

Less suitable: A door that must latch without extra force, and a job that needs a reliable 6 m without splitting.

Common questions

Is the coil really 6 m?

The title says 6 m. One reviewer notes that 6 m is the length after both halves are separated, so the unsplit roll is 3 m.

Will it stop a door closing?

The listing states a 3–5 mm gap. One reviewer found it too thick, and the door no longer closed fully. That reviewer treated the thickness as a fit issue, not a broken strip.

Does the backing peel cleanly?

Not always. One review says the backing tears after a short length and needs a knife to start again. Others report the strip peeling off the frame after a day or longer.

GUKOY flat foam tape, 20 m, white

Rank 5

GUKOY flat foam tape, 20 m, white

Our view

GUKOY’s tape is flat closed-cell foam, 6 mm wide and 3 mm thick, in two rolls that make 20 m, at about £6.99. The listing does not state a gap. Across 1,373 amazon.co.uk ratings it sits at 4.4. Reviewers stuck it to cleaned PVC and painted door frames, and one reel covered four doors when only the top and the handle side were sealed. It closes a slight gap, stops a rattle, and quietened a bedroom used for a games console, and a loft hatch stayed sealed without looking bulky. The 3 mm thickness is the limit you will hit on a larger crack: those gaps stayed draughty until the tape was doubled, and on doors that already fitted tightly the extra 3 mm stopped them closing. Once the backing is off it will not reposition, and on an inner frame it can peel and stick awkwardly. Buyers who cleaned with alcohol or white spirit did not report a widespread next-day failure.

Pros

  • 20 m for about £6.99, the most length per pound in this set
  • 6 mm by 3 mm section, cut with scissors or a blade
  • 4.4 from 1,373 ratings
  • Sticks on PVC and painted frames that were cleaned first
  • Closes a slight gap and has quietened a bedroom

Cons

  • Too thin for a larger window gap unless you double it
  • The extra 3 mm can stop a tight door closing
  • Will not reposition once the backing is off
  • No millimetre gap range on the listing

Best for: A slight, even crack on a PVC window, a door jamb or a loft hatch, where 3 mm of foam is enough.

Less suitable: A gap much over 3 mm, and a door that already closes with no spare room.

Common questions

What gap is this tape for?

The listing does not state a gap. It is 6 mm wide and 3 mm thick. Reviewers who had a larger window gap found it too thin unless they doubled it.

How much length is in the pack?

Two rolls, 20 m in total. One reviewer covered four doors with a single reel by sealing only the top and the handle side.

Can it stop a tight door closing?

Yes, if the door already fits closely. One reviewer could not close the doors after fitting it and had to accept a tighter, or unusable, shut.

UPSEN D-profile foam seal, 10 m, white

Rank 6

UPSEN D-profile foam seal, 10 m, white

Our view

UPSEN is a white EPDM D-seal, 9 mm wide and 6 mm thick, on one 10 m roll that splits into two 5 m lengths, for a gap the listing puts at about 3.5–5 mm. At about £4.99 it is the best value in this set: you get 10 m for 50p more than the 6 m coils at about £4.49. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.3 from 3,025 ratings, the largest sample here. Reviewers reported an immediate difference on gappy Victorian sash windows, and the strip stopped draughts on a front room, a door bottom edge and 30-year-old windows. One door-bottom strip was still in place after months of cold and damp. The adhesive is why it is not the top pick: strips peel and stand up, and the backing tears as you peel it. The section can be too thick for a smaller gap, and one buyer said it did not do the job. The spec table also lists a 4 mm width, which does not match the 9 mm bullet.

Pros

  • 10 m for about £4.99, about 50p a metre
  • 9 mm by 6 mm section with a stated gap of about 3.5–5 mm
  • 4.3 from 3,025 ratings, the largest count in this set
  • Immediate draught reduction on gappy Victorian sashes in reviews
  • White strip blends with white trim

Cons

  • Adhesive lets go and the strip lifts or stands up
  • Backing tears while you peel it
  • Too thick for a gap smaller than about 3.5 mm
  • Spec table lists a 4 mm width that conflicts with the 9 mm bullet

Best for: Several white windows or a door bottom with a gap of about 3.5–5 mm, when you want the most D-seal length for the money.

Less suitable: A gap under about 3.5 mm, and a frame where a previous stick-on strip has already lost its glue.

Common questions

What size is the UPSEN strip?

The bullet gives 9 mm width and 6 mm thickness, for a gap of about 3.5–5 mm. One roll is 10 m, or 5 m times two if you split it. The spec table also lists thickness 0.6 cm.

Do reviewers say it stays stuck?

Mixed. One strip on a door bottom was still in place after months. Others say the strips peel and stand up, and that the backing tears as you peel it.

Is it too thick for a small gap?

One reviewer said it seals draughts but can be too thick for smaller gaps. The stated range is about 3.5–5 mm.

wordmouk transparent sealing tape, 10 m

Rank 7

wordmouk transparent sealing tape, 10 m

Our view

wordmouk is a flat transparent tape, 3 cm wide and 10 m long, and you stick it over a joint rather than compressing it in a gap. The listing states no compression gap. It is about £8.98, with 4.2 from 915 ratings. Reviewers used it on single glazing and on a child’s bedroom window to stop a winter draught, and one household took it off again for summer. A drop in outside noise was used as a sign the airflow was blocked, and one roll stayed on a door for six months and still looked acceptable. It is a poor seal for a door you still open: at least one pack was sticky on both sides. Firm tape is awkward in window-frame corners, adhesion varies between rolls, and one buyer saw no difference after fitting. The bullets say acrylic and the spec table says rubber, so the material is not settled on the listing.

Pros

  • 10 m of transparent tape that has stopped a winter draught on single glazing
  • Sticks to PVC where ordinary tape did not, in one review
  • One household removed it again for summer
  • One door still looked acceptable after six months

Cons

  • Not a compressible D-seal or gasket
  • Sticky on both sides in at least one pack, so a door you open can glue shut
  • Awkward in corners, with uneven tack between rolls
  • Acrylic in the bullets, rubber in the spec table

Best for: A fixed window joint you want to cover for the heating season and peel off later.

Less suitable: A door or casement you still need to open, and any gap that needs a compressible seal.

Common questions

Is this a compressible window seal?

No. It is a flat transparent tape, 3 cm by 10 m, stuck over a joint. The listing does not give a compression gap.

Can I use it on a door I still open?

One reviewer said the tape was sticky on both sides and told others not to buy it for doors they need to open. The same reviewer said it was fine on something that does not move.

Does the listing say it leaves residue?

The product questions ask about residue. The bullet says it adheres firmly without residue. Reviews do not confirm a clean peel beyond one person who removed it for summer.

Esufeir D-shape rubber seal, 6 m, black

Rank 8

Esufeir D-shape rubber seal, 6 m, black

Our view

Esufeir is a hollow rubber D-seal, not foam, listed for a 2.5–6 mm gap, and the title length is 6 m. The pack adds two adhesion aids, gloves and instructions, which you use to wipe the frame before sticking. amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 397 ratings, at about £7.99. One reviewer used the alcohol wipe and reported the strip still holding after six months of humidity and temperature changes. It has stopped draughts on a bowed window frame, a new back door and a conservatory door, and the rubber was thicker than the photos, which suited buyers who wanted less noise. A full perimeter on one back door made it very tight to close and strained the lock, so that buyer cut it back to one vertical strip. The paper backing takes the glue with it if you peel quickly, and some packs arrived with dried adhesive. The listing says cold weather can weaken the stick, one reviewer warmed the strip with a hairdryer, and the unit-count field says 1.0 metre, which does not match the 6 m title.

Pros

  • Rubber D-seal for a stated 2.5–6 mm gap
  • Wipes, gloves and instructions in the pack
  • Still holding after six months in one review that used the alcohol wipe
  • Thicker than the photos, which helped buyers chasing less noise

Cons

  • Unit count says 1.0 metre while the title says 6 m
  • Backing can pull the glue off, and some packs arrived with dried adhesive
  • A full door perimeter can strain the lock
  • Cold weakens the adhesive unless you warm the strip

Best for: A door or window gap of about 2.5–6 mm where you want rubber rather than foam, and you will wipe the frame first.

Less suitable: A door you seal on every edge and still need to lock easily, and a cold fit with no way to warm the strip.

Common questions

What gap does Esufeir state?

The title states a 2.5–6 mm gap for a hollow D-shape rubber strip. The title length is 6 m. The unit-count field says 1.0 metre.

What is in the pack?

The listing includes the seal, two adhesion aids, disposable gloves and instructions. One reviewer used the alcohol wipe and reported the strip still holding after six months.

Can it make a door hard to lock?

One reviewer sealed the whole back door and found it very tight to close, with strain on the lock. They cut the seal back to one vertical strip.

WanderGo T-shape seal, 6 m, white

Rank 9

WanderGo T-shape seal, 6 m, white

∼£10

Our view

The WanderGo strip is a white T-shape, 6 m of polyethylene, and one reviewer fitted it in about 10 minutes. It has stopped a large draught on a garage-to-utility door and on dropped patio doors, and a living-room window was reported as quieter and less dusty. The listing does not state a gap, so you cannot check the size against a millimetre measurement before you order. Across 901 amazon.co.uk ratings it sits at 4.0, the lowest star line in this set, at about £9.99. The backing paper is the complaint that keeps returning: it is hard to peel, it rips the strip, and it often takes the glue with it, so lengths are wasted. Adhesive is described on one edge, and one buyer added tape on the other edge before the strip would hold. A few people wanted it 2–3 mm thicker. Once the backing is actually off, some say it sticks and the room feels warmer.

Pros

  • Stops a large draught, including dropped patio doors
  • White strip blends with white uPVC
  • Street noise and dust reduced on a living-room window in reviews
  • Cuts with scissors; one fit took about 10 minutes

Cons

  • Backing paper rips the strip or pulls the glue off
  • Adhesive on one edge only, so some windows needed extra tape
  • No gap size on the listing, and a few buyers wanted it 2–3 mm thicker
  • 4.0 from 901 ratings, the lowest stars in this set

Best for: A white frame with a large draught, if you are willing to peel the backing slowly.

Less suitable: Anyone who wants a stated millimetre gap, or a strip that peels cleanly in one go.

Common questions

Is a gap size stated?

No. The listing describes a 6 m white T-shape strip for windows and doors, and it does not give a millimetre gap.

Why do reviews mention the backing paper?

Several reviewers could not peel the backing without ripping the strip or pulling the glue off. Once the backing was off, some said it stuck and cut the draught.

Is the adhesive on both edges?

One reviewer found double-sided tape on only one edge and added tape on the other edge before the strip would hold on their window.

Window seal buying guide

Start with the gap you can measure, then the fixing the frame will accept. A stick-on D-seal, a flat foam tape, a rubber D and a push-in uPVC gasket are not interchangeable. Prices below are the amazon.co.uk shelf figures saved on 15 October 2026.

What is a window seal?

A window seal closes the gap where an opening window meets its frame, or it replaces the rubber gasket that used to sit in a uPVC groove. In the UK the usual jobs are a casement whose bubble has gone hard, and a timber or metal frame that never had a groove. You want the draught gone without a new window. Quality here is the right profile for the gap, a material that springs back, and a fit that still lets the handle lock. A seal is not a lock.

Best for

  • Owners of older uPVC who can push a new gasket in after a sample fit
  • Households with one draughty casement who want a same-day stick-on fix

Not ideal for

  • A sliding sash, where foam in the channel is the wrong tool
  • Anyone treating a roll of tape as a lock or a PAS 24 upgrade

Mistakes to avoid

    Buying the thickest strip

Too thick and the window will not shut, or the lock will strain. Esufeir on a full door perimeter made one lock hard to turn. Measure the closed gap in millimetres and test a 50 mm offcut before you run the whole perimeter.

  2. 2

    Covering a trickle vent

Leave trickle vents, air bricks, extractors and combustion-air openings alone. Do not draught-proof internal doors. Energy Saving Trust is explicit on both. If you are unsure which vents feed an open flue, stop and ask a fitter.

  3. 3

    Foam on a sliding sash

Foam in a sash channel is the wrong tool. The Centre for Sustainable Energy points to a brush seal or a specialist. Stretching a push-in gasket thins it, and a seal under a glazing bead is a fitter’s job.

What to weigh up

Gap and profile

High

Name the gap before you compare strips. A closing gap on a casement, a perished groove gasket, a fixed crack and a sliding sash are different purchases. Foam in a sash channel is the wrong tool. The Centre for Sustainable Energy points to a brush seal or a specialist for sashes. Measure the closed gap in millimetres at more than one point. Too thick and the window will not shut, or the lock will strain. Too thin and the draught stays.

Fixing, length and vents

High

Match the fixing to the frame you have. A stick-on strip goes on a clean, dry rebate when there is no usable groove. A push-in gasket goes in only if a short sample seats in that groove. Do not treat a fits-all uPVC line as settled until it does. Stretching a push-in gasket thins it. Fixtrade’s fitting note is not to stretch the rubber. A glazing-bead seal against the glass goes to a fitter. Length is the perimeter plus waste for corners. YANKUIRUI is 6 m as two 3 m pieces.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Older uPVC with a hard gasket

The rubber in the groove has gone hard and you can push a new gasket in after a sample fit. Storm Patrol is the 25 m push-in bubble listed for frames of 3–5 mm. Measure the groove first. A frame with no groove is a different product.

One draughty casement

You want a same-day stick-on fix and you accept that foam may not last. YANKUIRUI is the top pick here: a 9 mm by 6 mm D-seal for a stated 3–6 mm gap, at about £4.49, with 4.4 from 2,938 ratings.

Renter who may peel it off

You need a tape you can take off again, and you should test a corner because some acrylic tapes leave adhesive. wordmouk is flat covering tape for a fixed joint, not a compression seal, and at least one pack was sticky on both sides.

Common questions about window seals

Which window seal is the top pick in this set?
YANKUIRUI is the top pick when you want a stick-on D-seal with a printed 9 mm by 6 mm section and a 3–6 mm gap. It is about £4.49, with 4.4 from 2,938 amazon.co.uk ratings, and it scores highest here because the size is printed and the review sample is large. It is not the pick for a perished gasket that still sits in a uPVC groove. The adhesive lifts on a dusty or uneven frame.
What does a window seal cost on amazon.co.uk?
On these nine amazon.co.uk listings, entry foam is about £4.49 to about £6.99, the mid band about £7.89 to about £9.99, and the 25 m Storm Patrol gasket about £20.18. Those shelf prices are from 15 October 2026, not a national survey. Energy Saving Trust puts draught-proofing of windows and doors at about £250 for a whole house. Its about £55 a year in Great Britain covers windows, floors and doors together, not one roll.
Should you buy foam tape or a push-in gasket?
Use foam when the frame has no usable groove and you have measured a small closing gap. YANKUIRUI, Bynsaer and UPSEN are stick-on D-seals with stated ranges around 3–6 mm. Use a push-in gasket only if a short sample seats in the existing groove. Storm Patrol states frames of 3–5 mm on a 25 m coil. A thicker strip is not automatically a better seal, and none of these listings shows a BS EN 12365 class.
How do you measure a window gap before you order?
Close the window and measure the gap in millimetres at more than one point. Too thick and the handle will not lock. Too thin and the draught stays. Seals Direct’s rule of thumb for a bubble is about a third higher than the gap. Test a 50 mm offcut the way the Centre for Sustainable Energy describes, and check the window still shuts. Foam in a sliding-sash channel is the wrong tool.
Does a window seal stop a burglar?
No. A seal closes a gap or replaces a gasket. It is not a lock, and it is not a security device. PAS 24 and similar ratings belong to a tested window, not to a roll of tape. None of the nine amazon.co.uk listings here shows a BS EN 12365 weatherstripping class, so this page does not claim tested weather performance either. If the strip stops the locks engaging, take it off.
Can you cover a trickle vent with a window seal?
No. Leave trickle vents, air bricks, extractors and combustion-air openings alone, and do not draught-proof internal doors. Energy Saving Trust is explicit on both. Approved Document F keeps background ventilators usable, and draught-proofing on its own might not be building work. Replacement windows should not shrink those vents. If you are unsure which openings feed an open flue, stop and ask a fitter before you stick anything down.
What if a coil sold as 6 m is shorter?
Measure the coil when it arrives. In this set, Bynsaer’s 6 m is the length after the roll is split, so the unsplit coil is 3 m. Esufeir’s title says 6 m and the unit count says 1.0 metre. Tarqite’s fields say 6 m, 8 m and 80 cm. Goods must match the description under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which is the route when a length claim fails.
When should you call a fitter instead of buying tape?
Call a fitter when the seal sits under a glazing bead, the frame is listed or badly distorted, water comes through the wall joint, or the sash has dropped. A glazing gasket against the glass is a different part from a compression seal in the frame groove. If the room is hot from the sun rather than draughty, a window solar film is a different product. It does not close a gap, and a seal does not cut solar gain.

Our verdict

YANKUIRUI is the top pick for a stick-on D-seal with a printed 3–6 mm gap, at about £4.49, with 4.4 from 2,938 ratings. It is the wrong pick for a perished gasket that still sits in a groove. UPSEN is the best value: 10 m at about £4.99, about £0.50 a metre, with 4.3 from 3,025 ratings. GUKOY is cheaper per metre, at about £0.35, and does not take that place, because it is 3 mm flat foam with no stated gap. Storm Patrol remains the listing for a measured 3–5 mm uPVC groove.
