Best porthole

Updated: October 2026

You want one listing to open, and the stars will not give you a single winner. The best porthole depends on whether you are glazing a normal interior door, lighting a shed or camper, hanging a mirror, or specifying a deck hatch. A 4.6 on a door ring and a 4.2 on a mirror are different products. In this comparison the top pick is the HouYeen and the best value is the GAESHOW. Prices below are the amazon.co.uk figures saved on 19 October 2026. The rows are on the [porthole comparison](/hub/door-and-window-security/porthole). One job, one listing

A single ranking fails because the thumbnails are round and the jobs are not. The MLS door unit and the HouYeen portlight can both sit near 4.6, and they still answer different questions. Decor scores describe a wall. The hatch's 5.0 is one review with no text. ZONADAH at about £35.99 and KKPLZZ at about £40.99 have no review line in the saved listing, so they are not a pick for any job here. Specialist door kits sit outside this set. North 4 sells DorGlaze porthole kits from about £212 including VAT, made to your thickness, and ZEROplus sells circular kits that can be fire-rated or not. Screwfix's Mottez round panel is about £156.99 for 44 mm and is marked non-fire-rated. Those are not ASINs in the table. They show why a wall hanging near £30 is not the door answer UK makers are selling. The order of checks is on the porthole buying guide.

Interior door of about 40 mm

For a normal interior door of about 40 mm, the listing in this set is the MLS B4000, model 0180-0160-A6, at about £77.42. It is a 250 mm non-opening ring with matte VSG glass. The page states the leaf as 40 mm plus or minus 2 mm and includes two aluminium rings, the pane and mounting material. That is the only row here with a door thickness on it. The score is 4.6 from 157. The extracted sample has no UK review text, so those 157 reviews are not a United Kingdom verdict. Skip the MLS if the leaf is not that thickness. A reviewer in the Netherlands, which is not a UK measurement, reported about 44 mm between the halves and returned the unit. Skip it if you need the window to open, because this ring does not. Skip it if the door is a fire door, or if you cannot tell: no listing here has a fire rating. That stop is on porthole in a fire door. The title says aluminium and one bullet says stainless steel, so do not tell anyone it is a stainless door light until you have reconciled that clash.

Opening side window

For an opening round window with UK review text, the top pick is the HouYeen at about £30.99. It is black ABS, about 265 mm outside, with 4 mm tempered glass, and the listing describes rubber seals as water-tight. It scores 4.6 from 59. UK notes cover a shed fitted with M4 countersunk bolts and nuts bought separately, two shed windows called watertight once silicone went on, a micro-camper, and the back door of a camper van opened for air. The screws are not in the box. One UK buyer could not keep the locks on the inside and still call the fit water-tight, and described a gap. The GAESHOW at about £29.99 is the best value, at 4.4 from 121. UK notes in the sample are short. One of them fitted it as a round window in a bird hide and called the build sturdy. The glass line prints both 4 mm and 0.2 inch, and the screws are not included. Choose it when the pound and the larger review count matter more than a thicker UK write-up. Skip both portlights for an interior door leaf. Neither states 40 mm.

Wall, mirror and the deck hatch

If you wanted a mirror, buy a mirror. The 9 inch mirror at about £29.99 scores 4.2 from 98. UK notes put it in a seaside cloakroom, and the repeated complaint is size: about 23 cm, with one return as too small to be practical. The 11.5 inch mirror at about £34.90 scores 4.2 from 113, with a 7 inch mirror, and UK buyers hung it in a nautical bar. A UK review says the fixings were not in the box. Neither shows through. The clear 9 inch wall piece at about £29.99 scores 3.7 from 82, and UK reviews say it is not waterproof. It can dress a bar. It should not be sealed into a summerhouse. The Masyrt hatch at about £313.29 is the listing only when the job is a push-out deck hatch: opening 457 by 327 mm, 6 mm smoke-grey tempered glass, a stay and a lockable handle. The score is 5.0 from one review with no text. The thickness line says 15 mm or any thickness, which is not a measured range. Which flange belongs on which surface is on door porthole or boat porthole.

Common questions

Which one is the door listing, and who should skip it?
The MLS B4000 at about £77.42, for a stated 40 mm leaf, matte, non-opening, with fixings included. Skip it for a 44 mm door, a fire door, a window that must open, or if you will only buy when UK review text is in the file. This sample does not have that UK text for the MLS. It is not the top pick of the comparison.
Which opening portlight has UK review text?
The HouYeen at about £30.99, 4.6 from 59, with UK shed and camper notes, and screws extra. That is the top pick. The GAESHOW at about £29.99 is the best value, with a shorter UK note, including a bird hide, and 121 reviews at 4.4. Both should be skipped for a door leaf.
What should you buy if you wanted a mirror?
The 9 inch mirror at about £29.99 if about 23 cm is acceptable. The 11.5 inch mirror at about £34.90 if you want the larger frame and you will supply fixings. Neither shows through. The clear decor is a different buy, and the 9 inch clear unit has UK reviews that say it is not waterproof.
Why is the £313 hatch not the best porthole?
Because it is a deck hatch, not a round door window, and the only score is 5.0 from one review with no text. The opening is 457 by 327 mm and the glass is 6 mm smoke grey. That can be the right hatch. It is not a winner across doors, sheds and walls, and it is not the top pick.
What if the door is 44 mm or a fire door?
Do not use the 40 mm MLS as if the 4 mm difference will take up. A 44 mm vision panel is a different specification, and a fire door is not a site-cut job for any listing in this set. The buying guide holds the thickness check. The fire-door page is the stop.
