Best lock cylinder: street door, cheap swap, night latch

Updated: October 2026

You are looking at the listing with the most stars. In this amazon.co.uk set, that rating is not the listing that states a 3-star mark. Best here means a street-facing euro door, a same-size swap, or a Yale-style night latch. The [lock cylinder comparison](/hub/door-and-window-security/lock-cylinder) has every price and split. How to measure is on the [buying guide](/hub/door-and-window-security/lock-cylinder/sub/lock-cylinder-buying-guide). Peter F. used these listings and public UK guidance in October 2026. A street-facing euro door

For an external euro door, start with a listing that states TS007 or Sold Secure Diamond, then check the split. West Yorkshire Police describe a 3-star TS007 cylinder, or SS312 Diamond, as the upgrade to look for. In this set only two listings print that kind of line, and both are thumbturns. The top pick is the greenteQ Orion: a nickel 35/35 thumbturn, 70 mm overall, at about £32.06, with 4.7 from 833 reviews. A bullet says the TS007 Kitemark offers 3-star intruder resistance. The file has no certificate number. It is the wrong cylinder if you need a key on both sides. The Federal Gabriel is a chrome 35T/35 thumbturn at about £37.99, with 4.4 from 36 reviews. The bullets say tested to TS007:2024 and Sold Secure Diamond. Federal is the Diamond line if you accept a small review file and you have measured 35 mm a side.

A same-size emergency swap

If you are matching a cylinder you already trust on a low-risk door, the best value is the XFORT 50/50 at about £13.99. It is a chrome euro double, 100 mm, six pins and three keys, with 4.6 from 4,182 reviews. The bullets say anti-pick, anti-bump and anti-drill. They do not state a TS007 Kitemark. The details field says control method App, while the title describes a mechanical key. Use it when both sides are 50 mm. Do not treat the review count as a 3-star upgrade. The thumbturn twin is the same price as a 50/50T, with 4.6 from 5,574 reviews, and the same unrated line. Those standards are on the anti-snap euro cylinder page. DIDA’s 40/40, at about £12.99, is the 80 mm double if that is the split you measured. It cites BS EN 1303:2005 without a classification code.

A night latch, not a euro slot

A surface night latch does not take any of the euro cylinders above. The Yale 1109, at about £9.12 with 4.7 from 594 reviews, states doors of 38–57 mm. The title says four keys and the piece-count field says six. Reviews say you cut the tail bar to the old length. One buyer cut it too short and the latch would not turn. The Sterling 5-pin rim is about £7.99 with 4.5 from 409 reviews, and the saved listing links to one address while printing another ASIN. The spec block states no thickness. Yale is the clearer night-latch replacement inside 38–57 mm.

What to skip until you have measured

Valorada’s key-both-sides 35/35, at about £10.49, is 4.8 from 40 reviews. Forty reviews do not beat a stated 3-star line. The 35/35T at the same price has 4.5 from 75 reviews, including one that spun and one that seized. Wavanta’s 30/35, at about £9.49, has no review line. A 30 mm side is not a 35 mm side. Which inside, key or turn, is the thumbturn or key page.

Common questions

Which listing actually states 3-star?
The greenteQ Orion bullet states a TS007 Kitemark with 3-star intruder resistance. The Federal Gabriel states tested to TS007:2024 and Sold Secure Diamond. No other listing in this set prints either line. Neither file includes a certificate number, so the mark still has to be on the cylinder you receive. Both are 35 mm thumbturns, not key-both-sides doubles.
Why not buy the XFORT with thousands of reviews?
The XFORT 50/50 has 4.6 from 4,182 reviews at about £13.99, and the 50/50T has 4.6 from 5,574 at the same price. That is strong evidence the cylinder works when the split is right. The bullets do not state TS007 or Sold Secure. Volume answers whether this ordinary barrel will turn. It does not answer whether this is the 3-star upgrade the police page describes.
Does police approved on the Federal settle my insurance?
No. Those words are on the Federal listing, next to TS007:2024 and Sold Secure Diamond. The Master Locksmiths Association’s guideline says its own text does not oblige an insurer to give cover. Read the policy. A listing phrase is not a claims decision, and this comparison did not see a licence number in the file.
Does 4.8 stars on the Valorada beat 4.4 on the Federal?
No. Valorada’s 35/35 double is 4.8 from 40 reviews and states no TS007 line. Federal is 4.4 from 36 reviews and states TS007:2024 and Diamond. Both files are thin. The words on the listing are the difference, and you still have to measure. A low-risk internal 50/50 can be the XFORT at about £13.99.
What should I skip if I have not measured?
Skip every add-to-basket button. A 30/35, a 35/35, a 40/40 and a 50/50 are different doors. Rim and euro are different locks. The how-to is the measurement. Until both sides are known, the best listing in the wrong size is the one that will stick out or will not enter the slot.
