Roller blind motor or tubular motor

Updated: October 2026

You searched for a tubular motor and the results mixed a rechargeable blind kit with a 230 V shutter drive. Both sit inside a roller tube. They do not share a tube size, a supply, or a curtain. If yours is a 38 mm indoor blind, you are buying a blind kit. If yours is a shutter shaft, you are buying a mains shutter motor. The listings are the 15 October 2026 amazon.co.uk scrape in our [tubular motor comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/tubular-motor). Peter F. used those listings and public UK sources, and did not fit a motor. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Same words, different tube

The blind motor in this set is the Rollerhouse. The title states a 1.5 inch or 38 mm tube. A shutter motor here is a different barrel. SW60 on the superrollo pair is a 60 mm shaft. The Neco ED2/180-M states a 59 mm body. The generic 100 Nm states a 97 mm round adaptor. None of those will slide into a 38 mm blind tube. Trade Roller Shutters calls roller-blind automation much smaller than the shutter range. The checks after a measurement are on the tubular motor buying guide.

When the rechargeable kit is the one to buy

Choose the Rollerhouse, B081R7T81T, when the tube is 38 mm, the fabric is inside the stated 4 kg, and you want a remote and the included 8.4 V charger without a new mains cable. The scrape showed £92.99 and 3.6 from 11 reviews. No newton-metre figure is printed. The listing excludes pleated, aluminium, and vertical blinds. Other diameters are a separate order, so a 32 mm barrel is not this box. A remote is what this listing states. A different Rollerhouse ASIN advertises Alexa or Google Home, and this one does not. The conditional pick is on the best tubular motor page.

When you need the shutter motor instead

Choose a shutter motor when the barrel is a roller shutter. 230 V is printed on the Neco 60 Nm, the Neco 180 Nm, and the generic 100 Nm. Override, if the curtain is a way out, is stated on the Neco 60 Nm, the Neco 180 Nm, and the Ellard 100 Nm. It is not stated on the Rollerhouse. This page does not run a sizing chart and does not crown a shutter motor. Ellard's blind installer guide puts about 1.1 Nm near 4.5 to 5 kg of blind fabric. Do not copy that onto the Rollerhouse. Window, shop, and garage barrels are on the roller shutter tubular motor page.

What a swap would actually do

The Neco 180 Nm will not go inside a 38 mm blind tube. The body is 59 mm. The other way fails too. A 4 kg kit with an 8.4 V charger will not lift a window shutter or a garage door. A mains blind motor for a small tube is not one of these ten ASINs. The only blind listing here is the rechargeable Rollerhouse. If you have not measured, you are guessing. Once it is 38 mm and about 4 kg, the Rollerhouse is the type.

Common questions

Are a roller blind motor and a tubular shutter motor the same thing?
Both sit in a roller tube, and they are not substitutes. Here the blind motor is the Rollerhouse, for a 38 mm tube and a stated pull of 4 kg, with a remote and an 8.4 V charger. The shutter motors include the superrollo pair on an SW60 shaft and Neco listings that print 230 V. A 59 mm shutter body does not fit a 38 mm blind tube. Measure before you compare prices.
What tube does the Rollerhouse kit state?
The title states a 1.5 inch or 38 mm tube, with drive wheels for that size. Other diameters are a separate order. The 15 October 2026 scrape showed £92.99 and 3.6 from 11 reviews. It is not for pleated, aluminium, or vertical blinds. No newton-metre figure is printed. The display length is 41 cm. The weight lines disagree, so this page does not pick 890 g or 500 g as the motor mass.
Can the Rollerhouse lift a roller shutter?
The listing says it can pull 4 kg shades on a 38 mm tube. A window shutter on SW60 is a different class: the RM10MM states up to 22 kg or 4.2 m², and the RM30MM states up to 66 kg or 12 m². The Rollerhouse does not state 230 V or a shutter adaptor. It is the wrong product for a shutter curtain.
Can a 180 Nm shutter motor go inside a 38 mm blind tube?
No. The Neco ED2/180-M states a 59 mm body, 230 V, 540 W, and 7 rpm. A 38 mm tube cannot accept that body. Extra newton-metres do not make it smaller. Ellard's blind guide talks about roughly 1 Nm for a few kilogrammes of fabric, which is a different product. Use the 180 Nm motor only on a barrel you have checked against 59 mm.
Do you need an electrician for the blind kit?
The Rollerhouse states a remote and an 8.4 V charger, not a 230 V connection. You are not adding a shutter circuit for that charger. You still follow the manual, and you still skip the kit if the tube is not 38 mm. A shutter motor that prints 230 V needs someone who can connect it. This kit is not that product.
Does the Rollerhouse work with Alexa or Google Home?
This ASIN does not say so. The listing includes a remote. Reviews disagree about hubs. A different Rollerhouse product advertises Alexa or Google Home. Do not merge that advert with B081R7T81T. If you need a named smart-home system, this scrape does not give you one.
What if your blind tube is not 38 mm?
This kit does not cover it. Other Rollerhouse diameters are a separate order, and pleated, aluminium, and vertical blinds are excluded. A 32 mm barrel is not the wheels in this box. Do not move up to a shutter motor to solve a smaller blind tube. Measure, then buy the kit that states that diameter.
