Corrugated iron sheets buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are covering a shed, a lean-to or a bin store, and the amazon.co.uk title says corrugated iron sheets plus a square-metre figure. That line does not tell you the thickness, how much steel disappears in a lap, or whether the screws are in the box. The six packs on the [corrugated iron sheets comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/corrugated-iron-sheets) are short galvanised steel, 110 cm or 115 cm long, and each states 0.25 mm. Trade 13/3 sheet is a different product. Peter F. used those listings and published UK maker guides. We did not fit a roof. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This page is the checks before the basket.

What these sheets are

The word iron on these listings is the old name. The material field is galvanised steel, sometimes with a colour coat. None of the six states a zinc weight, so galvanised is not a lifespan you can quote. Harbour Housewares says classic corrugated. Mondeer, TEOV and Warmfay say corrugated and trapezoidal in the same listing. That is not a measured 13/3 pitch or a measured box profile. Pitch, cover and where the screw sits are on corrugated vs box profile. These packs do not cite BS EN 14782, and a house roof is outside this set.

Thickness and length

Every kept pack states 0.25 mm. Cladco treats 0.5 mm as cladding on its own 13/3 sheet and recommends 0.7 mm for its roofing. Those figures were not measured on the amazon packs. The sheets are about 110–115 cm long and 45–46 cm wide, so a longer slope needs an end lap. TEOV prints 0.25 mm and a dimension row that begins 25 × 450 × 1150 mm. Do not treat 25 mm as the steel. Laps are on how to fit corrugated iron sheets.

Area after laps

Title square metres are face area. Fourteen sheets at 110 × 46 cm are about 7.1 m², which is the 7 m² claim. Warmfay prints both 12.42 m² and 11.88 m². Cover width is not stated. Two 1.10 m sheets on a 2 m slope already overlap by 200 mm. As a rule of thumb, price per claimed face square metre is about £5.45 to £8.28 before laps.

Fixings, ridges and colour

Only Warmfay states 400 screws and washers, at £73.99, and one review says they were too small. Harbour’s bullets omit screws that reviews mention. Mondeer and TEOV do not list screws. Harbour ridge caps are separate: five caps for one pack of 14 sheets. The green listing repeats the anthracite review text, so 4.6 from 51 is one sample. TEOV has no review line.

When to stop

Stop if the existing roof might be asbestos cement, if the timber is rotten, or if a fall from the roof would matter. The Health and Safety Executive treats a roof as fragile until you know it is not. Do not walk the sheets. A new outbuilding in England has siting and height limits under Class E. Re-covering a shed you already have is not that decision. Felt, condensation and those limits are on corrugated sheets for a shed roof. Buy the thickness and the lap first, then the screws.

Common questions

What thickness should a shed roof be?
These packs state 0.25 mm. Cladco recommends 0.7 mm for its own 13/3 roofing and treats 0.5 mm as cladding. Hornsey’s 13.5/3 note also recommends 0.7 mm for roofing on that sheet. None of those lines was measured on the amazon packs, and these listings do not state a snow load.
Is 0.25 mm the same as trade corrugated?
No. The trade sheet in the UK guides used here is a named profile, often 13/3 or 8/3, in 0.5 mm or 0.7 mm, sometimes cut to length, with a stated cover width. The packs here are short sheets about 45–46 cm wide, all stating 0.25 mm, without a profile code. The material is still galvanised steel. The thickness and the length are what change the job.
Does 7 m² on the packet mean 7 m² of roof?
It means face area before laps. Fourteen sheets at 110 × 46 cm are about 7.1 m² of steel, which matches a 7 m² claim. Side laps and end laps use some of that steel, and none of these listings states a cover width. A slope longer than 110 cm needs an overlap, so the finished roof is smaller than the sum of the sheets you ordered.
Do the screws come in the box?
Only the Warmfay 24-sheet listing states 400 screws and washers. One review says they were too small. Harbour reviews mention bolts the bullets do not list. Mondeer and TEOV do not list screws as included. Budget for seal screws of your own unless the contents line on the page you open names them.
Why do makers quote different minimum pitches?
Cladco’s 13/3 page quotes 10° for that corrugated sheet. Hornsey’s 13.5/3 note quotes 4° for that sheet, and ColourClad’s 0.7 mm 13/3 page also quotes 4°. Those are maker figures for named products, not one UK rule, and not a pitch for these 0.25 mm packs. The amazon listings do not state a minimum pitch at all.
What if the listing says iron and the sheet is plastic?
Then it is not this comparison. Plastic, cardboard and model sheet were removed because the job here is galvanised steel. Read the material field before the title. A styrene sheet will not take a roofing screw the way a steel crest does, and it is a different purchase even when the search word is still iron.
