How to choose a Trotec fan for a UK home

Updated: October 2026

A fan that looks right in a product photo can still be wrong for your room, your socket or the distance from which you will hear it. To understand how to choose a Trotec fan, start with the job and the power connection, then consider noise, controls and price. The [Trotec fan comparison](/hub/cooling/trotec-fan) brings the six models together. This page explains which details should make you continue or reject a listing. A fan moves air across your skin and around a space. It does not refrigerate the room. Products Compared used amazon.co.uk listings and public UK sources, and did not run a lab test. Start with the job the fan has to do

A desk breeze, air movement across a sofa and drying a garage are different jobs. The TVE 8 is a small table fan with a 23 cm blade, so it makes more sense close to one person than at the far side of a room. The TVE 17 is also a table fan, even though search results can confuse it with the TVE 17 S pedestal. At 62 cm high, with a 40 cm blade, it needs a larger surface. Settle that shape before you compare wattage or stars. A highly rated table fan does not become a drying fan, and a powerful axial fan is a poor bedroom purchase. For a garage, gym or drying job, use the Trotec workshop fan guide.

Check the plug before you compare prices

The brand name does not mean every listing has the same UK connection. The TVE 17 and the TVE 16 state Type G. The TVE 8 states Type F, and the UK shop describes that connection as CEE 7/7. The TVE 23 S states Schuko. The TVM 13 does not give a clear UK plug, and the TTV 7000 states none. In England, Wales and Scotland, regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 requires a BS 1363 plug, or a conversion plug with a BS 1362 fuse, when the equipment has a non-UK plug. A loose travel adaptor is not that arrangement. UK mains are about 230 V. The best Trotec fan guide applies a stated-plug criterion to the household pick.

Read noise only with a speed and a distance

A single decibel number is not enough. You need the speed setting, the measurement distance, and whether the figure is sound pressure or sound power. The TVM 13 shows the problem. Its Amazon listing states 45 dB, while the available Trotec manual states 61 dB(A) at 1 m on stage 3. Those are two claims. Do not average them into a more reassuring result. The TVE 17 manual states 57 dB(A) at 1 m on level 3. The TVE 8 manual gives 56.5 dB(A) at 1 m on level 2, the higher of two settings. Those maximum-speed figures do not reveal the lowest setting. They do name the conditions. The TVE 16 figure of 52.5 dB(A) is also presented as a stage-maximum measurement at 1 m in the Amazon material. Do not use wattage as a shortcut for airflow or quietness.

Check oscillation, height and the controls

The angle and the control belong to the exact model. The TVE 8 manual says its pin starts up to 90° oscillation and pulling the pin up stops it. Do not copy that to the TVE 17, the TVE 16 or the TVE 23 S. The TVE 17 manual gives 80°. The TVE 16 listing and shop material state 90°. The TVE 16 range of 110–129 cm is usable. A lone 130 cm figure for the TVE 23 S is not evidence of continuous adjustment. Ignore the TVE 8 size of 8 × 8 × 8 cm and the TVE 16 blade field of 50.79 inches. The TVE 16 listing says remote, and one review describes buttons.

Let price be the final filter

Compare prices only after the job, the plug and the specification still fit. On amazon.co.uk this household range runs from about £13.19 and about £21.95 up to about £38.19, about £47.29 and about £70.82. The TTV 7000 at about £769.06 is a different class. The UK shop may show an ex-VAT figure while Amazon shows a shelf price. Reject the wrong format or supply first, then compare the current price in GBP.

Common questions

Does every Trotec fan come with a UK three-pin plug?
No. The TVE 17 and TVE 16 listings state Type G, but the TVE 8 states Type F and the TVE 23 S states Schuko. Other models have unclear or missing plug information. Confirm the exact connection supplied. An amazon.co.uk page or a UK brand page does not by itself guarantee a BS 1363 plug.
Is the TVE 8 large enough for a room?
The manual describes a 23 cm blade, and the captured reviews repeatedly call it very small. That makes it a close-range table or desk fan rather than a confident whole-room choice. Its switchable 90° oscillation can spread the breeze, but oscillation does not turn a compact fan into a larger air mover.
Should I choose the Trotec fan with the highest wattage?
No. Wattage describes electrical input, not whether the fan suits your room or produces the most useful airflow. The 460 W Amazon claim for the industrial TTV 7000 belongs to a different class from the 25–50 W household fans. Start with use, plug and a sourced airflow or noise figure.
Why do the TVM 13 noise figures disagree?
The Amazon listing states 45 dB without a measurement distance in the listing data. The available Trotec manual states 61 dB(A) at 1 m on stage 3. Treat them as separate source claims. Neither should be rewritten as a low-speed bedroom measurement.
What should I verify about a remote?
Check that the exact model and the box contents explicitly include one, and that the control description is consistent. The TVE 16 listing says remote, but captured review evidence describes buttons. A remote claim on another brand, or on a similarly named Trotec model, does not establish what this unit includes.
