How to use a Trotec dehumidifier

Updated: 21 October 2026

The box is open, the tank is empty, and the windows in a heated room are still wet. How to use a Trotec dehumidifier is mostly where you stand it, what humidity you ask for, and when you stop. These notes cover the TTK 26 E, the TTK 30 E, and the TTK 53 E in the [Trotec dehumidifier comparison](/hub/cooling/trotec-dehumidifier). They do not rank the three. Peter F. followed the English manuals on 20 October 2026, not a test run in a UK home. A qualifying purchase through our amazon.co.uk links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Where to stand it

Put the unit on a firm, level floor, door shut and window closed. An open window lets wet air back in. The TTK 53 E manual asks for about 30 cm above, 20 cm at the rear, 20 cm at the side, and 10 cm at the front. The TTK 30 E manual lists a bathroom and then bans the area beside a bath, a shower, or a pool. IPX1, IP20, and IPX2 are not shower ratings. How close an airer should be is on Trotec dehumidifier drying clothes.

What to set

Aim near 55% relative humidity, the TTK 30 E automatic preset, inside a 40–60% dwelling range. Below 55% the compressor stops. From 55% to 70% the fan runs on low, and above 70% on high. The TTK 30 E table states 30% to 80% in 5% steps. The TTK 26 E and TTK 53 E tables do not state a setpoint. The TTK 53 E manual does describe 30–80%. None of the amazon tables lists a timer. An empty tank near 55% can mean the unit is pausing.

Tank, hose, and moving it

Listing tanks are 2.2 litres (TTK 30 E), 2.8 litres (TTK 26 E), and 5.5 litres (TTK 53 E). The TTK 26 E manual says 1.8 litres, not 2.8. Overflow shut-off is stated for the TTK 30 E and the TTK 26 E. The TTK 53 E table leaves it blank. Do not drink the condensate. The TTK 30 E manual includes a 0.3 m, 17 mm hose the amazon included line omits. It reaches a bucket beside the unit only if it falls downhill. Empty the tank and carry the unit upright when you move it.

When it should not run

Stop at or below 5°C. The TTK 26 E may not start below that. The TTK 53 E range is 5°C to 32°C. Unplug a damaged lead, a cracked case, or a unit under dripping water. The refrigerant is R290: 40 g, 35 g, and 55 g on the TTK 26 E, TTK 30 E, and TTK 53 E manuals. Do not pierce the circuit. Opening the case is for a competent person. A tide mark, widespread mould, or a leak is a building repair. If the plug is wrong, read the UK plug page before you force it in.

Common questions

What humidity should I set?
Set about 55% if the control allows it. That is the TTK 30 E automatic preset, inside a 40–60% dwelling range. The listing also lets you step from 30% to 80%. Leaving the dial at 30% all day is harder than a lived-in room needs. The TTK 26 E and TTK 53 E tables do not print a setpoint, so follow the manual in the box if the buttons differ.
What does automatic mode do on the TTK 30 E?
The English manual fixes automatic mode at 55%. The compressor stops below that. The fan runs on low between 55% and 70%, and on high above 70%. The fan can continue for about three minutes after the compressor stops. If the tank is still empty after an evening in a room that is already near 55%, the mode may be pausing on purpose. An open window will also keep the tank empty.
Can I put it in the bathroom?
The TTK 30 E manual names a bathroom and then forbids the area beside a bath, a shower, or a pool. Use it once surfaces are merely damp, not in the splash. IPX1, IP20, and IPX2 are not shower ratings. Do not stand the case where water can drip onto it.
How do I empty it and move it?
Lift the tank when it is getting full, empty it down a drain, and seat it so the float works. Empty the tank before you move the machine, and carry the unit upright. Do not drink the water. The TTK 30 E hose is 0.3 m and 17 mm, enough for a bucket beside the unit.
What if no water collects?
Check the room first. An open window, a setpoint the air has already met, or a temperature at or below 5°C will leave the tank dry. On the TTK 30 E, automatic mode stops the compressor below 55%. On the TTK 26 E, a defrost cycle does not dehumidify, and a badly seated tank or a stuck float will stop the run. If the air is wet, the door is shut, and nothing collects, use the manual's fault list.
Can it run below 5°C?
No. The manuals start at 5°C. The TTK 26 E manual says the unit may not start below that, and the TTK 53 E range is printed as 5°C to 32°C. A cold garage is the wrong room for these three. They are condensation machines. They weaken as the air gets colder, and this set has no desiccant to put in their place.
Who should open the case?
Refrigerant and an opened case are for a competent person. The charge is R290, in the tens of grams, and the circuit must not be pierced. A damaged lead is a reason to unplug, not to open the shell. A tide mark or mould over a wide area is a repair for whoever is responsible for the property.
