Low profile ceiling fan with light

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are standing in a flat with a ceiling around 2.3–2.4 m, and the listing says low profile as if that were a measurement. A low profile ceiling fan with light is the one whose printed drop, subtracted from your ceiling, still leaves a sensible gap above your head. The title can say flush while the dimension line says 40 cm. This page does that subtraction for the fans in the [LED ceiling fan comparison](/hub/cooling/led-ceiling-fan). Wiring stays on the [how to fit a ceiling fan with light](/hub/cooling/led-ceiling-fan/sub/led-ceiling-fan-how-to-install) page. Span charts stay on the [ceiling fan with light buying guide](/hub/cooling/led-ceiling-fan/sub/led-ceiling-fan-buying-guide). Peter F. updated this on 21 October 2026. The fans were not measured in a room. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

2.1 metres is a maker and retailer figure

UK pages often say the blades should be at least about 2.1 m above the floor. Heathfield LED points you to a flush mount on a 2.4 m ceiling. The sources here do not state one statutory blade height. The lowest point can be the light, not the blades. Subtract only the number on the listing. The result is arithmetic, not a clearance certificate.

What 14 cm to 21 cm does on a 2.4 m ceiling

Take 2.40 m and subtract the printed body height. The Ensenior at 14 cm sits at about 2.26 m. The NIORSUN at 14.5 cm and the RLMIEL at 15 cm land near 2.25–2.26 m. The DWDVBL at 17 cm is about 2.23 m. The FIBRAVE at 18 cm is about 2.22 m. The CHANFOK at 21 cm is about 2.19 m. These are body heights, not proof that a blade tip clears 2.1 m if the light hangs lower. If your ceiling is 2.30 m, take another 10 cm off. The Ensenior then sits near 2.16 m.

27 cm, 40 cm and 45 cm are not low just because the title says flush

The Depuley title says flush and low profile. The dimensions are 107 x 107 x 27 cm. On a 2.4 m ceiling that leaves about 2.13 m, and on a 2.3 m ceiling about 2.03 m. The retractable fan is 106.7 x 106.7 x 40 cm. Forty centimetres off 2.4 m is 2.00 m to the body, under the 2.1 m shop figure. The RHEAFON is 76 x 76 x 45 cm before a downrod, which is 1.95 m on a 2.4 m ceiling. A downrod on a ceiling around 2.4 m moves the fan further into the room. The 107 cm width does not cancel a 27 cm or 40 cm drop.

Folded width is not drop

The retractable listing says the blades fold to 18.5 inches. That changes the width when the fan is off. It does not change the 40 cm height. Folding is a look, not a low drop. This folder does not give you the Ensenior’s headroom with the Depuley’s span. On a loft bed, measure from the mattress to the ceiling, then subtract the drop, and treat a result under about 2.1 m as a reason to stop.

When the answer is a different fan or no fan

Under about 2.3 m, the shallowest bodies here are already close to 2.1 m. A 14 cm Ensenior on a 2.25 m ceiling leaves about 2.11 m, with no spare if the shade is lower. A 40 cm retractable fan on that ceiling is around 1.85 m. Night noise is on the quiet ceiling fan for a bedroom page. Read the centimetre drop, subtract it from the ceiling you measured, and ignore flush until that sum still looks like headroom.

Common questions

My ceiling is 2.4 m. Which of these fans leaves headroom?
The shallow drums: the Ensenior at 14 cm near 2.26 m, and the CHANFOK at 21 cm near 2.19 m, on a 2.40 m ceiling. These are body heights, not a certified blade clearance. The Depuley at 27 cm, the retractable fan at 40 cm and the RHEAFON at 45 cm before a rod are the ones that fail a low ceiling.
Is 2.1 m from the floor a UK law?
Not in the sources used here. Heathfield, Capital Electricians and The Ceiling Fan Company all use figures around 2.1–2.3 m as maker or shop guidance. Approved Document P does not set a blade height. Until you have the manufacturer’s clearance, treat 2.1 m as practice.
Does flush mean the blades are the lowest point?
No. Flush describes the mount, not which part hangs lowest. The light can be the lowest point. Listings in this folder usually give one body height. The Depuley title says flush and the body is 27 cm deep.
The retractable fan folds. Does that make it low?
It makes it narrower when the blades are closed. The bullet says 18.5 inches folded. The dimension line is still 40 cm deep and 106.7 cm open. On a 2.4 m ceiling that 40 cm leaves about 2.00 m to the body. Folding is a look, not a low drop.
A downrod is in the box. Should I use it?
Not on a ceiling around 2.4 m. The RHEAFON’s dimension line is already 45 cm before the 4.9 or 7.9 inch rod. Adding the rod moves the fan further into the room. Use the shortest fixing the instructions allow, or pick a 14–17 cm drum instead.
