Best engine crane

Updated: October 2026

A search for the best engine crane turns up a 2 tonne title at about £179.99 and another at about £1,296.51. In this amazon.co.uk set a top pick means the file you can check, and the best value is the cheapest folding crane that still prints a size and a weight. Shelf prices for the six files are on our [workshop crane comparison](/hub/workshop/workshop-crane). Products Compared read these listings on 16 October 2026. None was load-tested. What can count as a top pick here

A pick has to rest on something you can read: a chart with millimetres, a weight, a size that could be the crane, a stated rule about moving a loaded frame, and United Kingdom reviews when the file has any. A star line whose stored texts are marked United States is not British experience. An 8-ton hydraulic pump line is a seller claim, not a safe working load. None of these files was load-tested, and none states UKCA. The Sealey SC10 is 3.5 from five United Kingdom reviews. The dearer Garvee is 3.8 from 12 United States texts, which does not outrank that smaller UK sample. The checks are on the engine crane buying guide.

Folding cranes, and the one price to skip

The Sealey SC10 at about £275.68 is the top pick only if you will use Sealey’s own chart and you will reject a ram that sinks on arrival. That chart, on the maker’s page rather than the amazon file, runs from 1,000 kg at 830 mm down to 250 kg at 1,190 mm. One UK review, dated 28 May 2019, says the jacking ram will not hold pressure and the beam drops under its own weight. The same file lists 30 × 10 × 30 cm and power source AC beside a 75 kg folding crane. Those lines conflict, so they are not a cupboard size. The best value is Garvee B0GGYF14WP at about £199.99: 156 × 92 × 180 cm and 59.9 kg, with boom names from 0.5 t to 2 t, and no millimetre chart. JHflor B0HFX94TZX at about £179.99 prints no weight, no dimensions, and no reviews. Do not pay about £1,296.51 for Garvee B0H699LTM3. The same four positions are on the £199.99 listing, the stored reviews are United States texts, and the dimension line reads like a carton.

If you need a gantry

A gantry is the buy when the load has to travel along a beam in a bay that clears 2.4 m, not when you need a jib over a wing. In this set that gantry is Sealey SG1000KITG at about £1,023.35. The package line includes a PT1000G trolley rated 1,000 kg and a CB1000 chain block with a 2.5 m drop. A safety line says lifting tackle is not included. The listing says the gantry is not to be moved while loaded, and the height is 2,400–3,600 mm, set unladen. The Sealey SG500 at about £652.15 is the buy only if 500 kg is enough and you will purchase tackle to that rating. If the ceiling is under 2.4 m, neither gantry stands. Ceiling and delivery are on engine crane for a home garage.

Who should not buy from this set

Skip a folding crane here if you do not know the engine weight and the listing has no millimetre chart, unless you will use Sealey’s published chart and return a crane whose ram will not hold. If the lift is for staff or a customer’s car, stop.

Common questions

Which crane is the top pick in this set?
The Sealey SC10 at about £275.68, only if you will use the maker chart and reject a ram that will not hold. The amazon file does not print that chart. One UK review says the beam drops under its own weight.
Which is the best value?
Garvee B0GGYF14WP at about £199.99. It is the lowest price that still prints 59.9 kg and 156 × 92 × 180 cm, plus four boom names. JHflor at about £179.99 is cheaper and prints none of those. The missing chart and the missing reviews belong in the same sentence.
Should I pay £1,296.51 for the dearer Garvee?
Not on the specification in this file. It names the same four positions as the Garvee at about £199.99 and does not add a millimetre chart. The 3.8 from 12 is a United States sample in the stored texts, including a stripped caster bolt. The 8-ton pump line is a seller claim.
Which gantry includes the chain block?
The SG1000KITG package line includes a PT1000G trolley and a CB1000 block with a 2.5 m drop. A safety line says tackle is not included, so you confirm the carton. The SG500 says tackle is not included, with no second sentence claiming the opposite. Confirm the carton.
Can I treat the United States reviews as British experience?
No. The texts stored for B0H699LTM3 are marked United States. They can tell you that a caster bolt stripped on that buyer’s crane. They are not a UK star sample, and they are not evidence for the £199.99 Garvee, the JHflor, or either Sealey. The only United Kingdom review detail in this set is the SC10 ram that would not hold.
