Stair climbing shopping trolley or sack truck

Updated: October 2026

The search shows a shopping bag and a washing machine as if they were one stair cart. A stair climbing shopping trolley or sack truck is a choice about what the frame holds. Food goes in a bag you can lift. A box or an appliance goes on a toe plate, and only when you can still hold it. The twelve prices are on the [stair cart comparison](/hub/workshop/stair-cart). The longer order is the [buying guide](/hub/workshop/stair-cart/sub/stair-cart-buying-guide). Which listing fits each job is the [best stair climbing trolley](/hub/workshop/stair-cart/sub/stair-cart-best) page. Same wheels, different job

Both tools can show six small wheels. On a shopping trolley the cluster sits under a bag of about 30–60 litres, and the empty frame is about 2–4 kg. On a sack truck the same idea of a rotating cluster sits under a steel or aluminium toe plate, and the empty truck is often 5–17 kg. The picture in the search is the wheels. The object that fails is the thing strapped to the frame. Six wheels on both do not make them interchangeable.

Choose the bag when the load is shopping

Use a shopping trolley for food, laundry, or a crate you would otherwise carry by the handles. In this set that is the VOUNOT at £18.99 (15 kg, 32 L), the Kono at £21.24 (40 kg, 31 L), the Hoppa at £24.99 (47 L and a 47 kg line), the 60 L VOUNOT at £34.99, and the LexonElec crate at £64.99. A 15 kg spec is a ceiling. Hoppa’s 47 kg line is still one number, not a stair rating.

Choose the toe plate when the load is a box or an appliance

Use a sack truck when the load will not go in a bag: a box, a piece of kit, or one appliance on a straight solid flight. YEAUPE is the listing that prints 50 kg for the flat and 50 kg for the stairs, at £48.03, 5 kg empty, with a 42 × 28 cm plate. Reviews include a washing machine taken down stairs, and other reviews call the wheels flimsy or wobbly. The Luebel-titled truck is £39.90 and 10 kg empty, with 75 kg on the spec and no stair figure. YITAHOME AEYIHj5zy9 prints 80 kg ascending against 150 kg on the flat, at £85.99 and 11.2 kg.

Taking the bag off is not a house move

Several shopper bullets invite the compromise. Kono’s 40 kg line and the 60 L VOUNOT’s 40 kg with the bag removed read like a hand truck. Removing the bag does not add a toe plate, a strap rated for an appliance, or a stair kilogram. If you need both jobs, keep a bag trolley for the weekly trip and hire a truck for the appliance.

When you want neither

AGrAdi at £236 does not answer shopper or sack truck. It is a third class: an electric claim of 400 kg, 1,200 W, and 48 V, with 5.0 from one rating and no review text. The file prints 35 kg and 400 kg as weight and does not describe the plug. Do not treat a missing BS 1363 description as a UK 13 A charger. Do not treat one star as a test.

Common questions

Which one is for food?
The shopping trolley: a bag around 2–4 kg, such as the Hoppa, the two VOUNOT shoppers, the Kono, or the LexonElec crate. Match the printed kilogram to the shop. A 15 kg spec is too small for a large weekly load, and a 47 kg line is still not a separate stair rating.
Which one is for a washing machine?
A sack truck with a toe plate, on a straight solid flight, if you can hold the machine when a wheel slips. YEAUPE reviews include a washing machine and also flimsy wheels. The Luebel-titled truck was returned as too flimsy for a small fridge. A shopping bag is the wrong frame.
Can I take the bag off and use a shopper as a sack truck?
Not for a house move. The 40 kg bag-off lines on Kono and the 60 L VOUNOT are flat claims, and a 20 kg rice pack was already described as nearly too much on the Kono. You do not gain a proper toe plate or a stair figure by emptying the bag.
Why is a sack truck harder to store?
It is heavier and often deeper. YEAUPE claims a 7 cm fold at 5 kg. CAMBA claims 20 cm at 5.99 kg and is reported as too wide for narrow doors. KATSU is 16.8 kg. A 2 kg shopper folds beside the door. The sack truck is a tool you fetch for one heavy item.
What if I need both jobs?
Use the bag trolley for the weekly shop and a toe-plate truck, or a hire, for the appliance. One compromised frame tends to be too heavy for the shop and too light for the fridge. The best-of page names a listing for each job.
Is the electric Amazon listing the appliance climber?
No. AGrAdi is an unverified powered claim with one rating and contradictory weights. A trade machine such as GGR’s Stairbuddy is a different product, outside this set. For a washing machine you can control, start with a manual truck that prints a stair line, not with a 5.0 from one review.
