Roller stand for a mitre saw

Updated: October 2026

A 2.4 m length of skirting on a chop saw tips as soon as the cut passes the balance point, and the results may be the saw’s own stand, a 50 mm roller, or one floor trestle. A roller stand for a mitre saw supports the timber beside the saw. Height, and the rule about standing on a trestle, are on the [how to use a roller stand](/hub/workshop/roller-trestle/sub/roller-trestle-how-to-use) page. The three floor listings are on the [roller trestle comparison](/hub/workshop/roller-trestle). Products Compared used HSE sheet WIS36 and the amazon.co.uk pages on 19 October 2026. The stand the saw bolts to is a different purchase

Elsons’ ToughBuilt pages put a universal mitre saw stand (TB-S510, about £159.95) beside roller stands. The frame gives the saw a beam and a place to bolt down. The roller stand gives the skirting somewhere to lie. The menu does not have to spell that split out. None of the three listings here is a mount for the saw. The Draper 70273 is one roller, 282 × 48 mm. The Performance Tool W54010 is a folding single roller. The wolfcraft 6102300 is a three-way head: fixed, roller and balls. You can work beside a mitre saw with any of them, and you still bolt the saw to whatever it already sits on. A roller trestle is the extra support if the saw stand’s arms run out.

Support either side, not only the offcut you notice

HSE sheet WIS36 says long work on a cross-cut saw should be supported either side of the saw unit. The offcut you noticed is only half of that sentence. The infeed end drops too, before the blade finishes, when the piece is longer than the saw’s own table. One floor stand is one side. It meets either side only when a second support covers the other. Wolfcraft reviewers describe the 6102300 beside a mitre saw, and several say a second stand is better. That is a theme, not a count of buyers. B&Q has listed a Vaunt roller as a pack of two, about 68–110 cm and 60 kg each. The pack is not a fourth card here. One Draper at £26.96 covers only the side you point it at.

Floor stand or a roller that sits on the bench

Floor stands in this set run from roughly 630 mm to 1,100 mm, and the pages disagree on the ends: Draper’s shop says 670–1,060 mm, wolfcraft’s shop says 630–1,000 mm, the Performance Tool title says 69–109 cm, and the amazon.co.uk bullets for the Draper say 700–1,100 mm. A mitre saw on its own legs sits in that band. A floor trestle is what you wind up to the bed. A saw on a workbench is a different rise. Trend’s R/STAND/A is sold with mitre saws in the copy, at 50–160 mm, a stated 62 kg, and about £61.37 including VAT on Trend Direct. That roller belongs on the bench. Two short rollers do not become a floor trestle. Set the roller level with the saw table or just below it. WIS36 does not print that millimetre.

What to open from this comparison

Open the comparison when the saw is already at standing height and you need a floor stand under one side, then a second support under the other. The Draper is the single roller at £26.96, with the maker’s 30 kg at full extension beside the amazon.co.uk 60 kg bullet. The Performance Tool is the folding single roller at £52.99, with rocking-base reviews to read first. The wolfcraft is the three-way head at £64.95 and a stated 50 kg. None of those sentences makes one stand into both sides. If you still do not know whether you want a plain roller, balls, or a fixed rest, that order is the roller stand buying guide. Set the height with the saw off, both sides supported, before the first cut in skirting. Standing on the trestle belongs on the how-to page, not in this layout.

Common questions

Is one stand enough for skirting?
One stand covers one side of the saw. WIS36 asks for support either side on long work. A 2.4 m length of skirting drops on the unsupported side once the cut passes the balance point. A second stand, a twin pack, or the saw station’s own extension closes the other side. One listing from this comparison does not meet that line on its own.
What if my saw lives on a bench, not on legs?
Use a bench-top roller in the 50–160 mm class, the Trend-style stand sold for mitre saws at that short range. A floor trestle from this comparison, rising toward 630–1,100 mm, is built for a saw bed already at that height. Wound down, it may still be too tall for a low bench, and a 50 mm roller on the floor is too short for a saw on legs. Match the rise to where the saw table actually is.
How high should the rollers be relative to the saw table?
Level with the saw table, or just below it, so the moulding cannot climb into the blade. That offset is workshop practice. WIS36 does not give a millimetre. Check with a short offcut and the saw switched off: the timber should meet the roller without a proud lip and without a seesaw. The full check, including feet and the lock, is on the how-to page.
Will any of the three comparison listings mount the saw?
No mounting plate is described for the Draper 70273, the Performance Tool W54010 or the wolfcraft 6102300. They are floor supports for the workpiece. Reviews that mention a mitre saw are describing the stand beside the saw, which is use, and it is not a test of a saw mount. If you need bolts, fences and a beam under the saw, that is the mitre saw stand, a separate purchase.
What happens if the offcut is unsupported?
The offcut tips as the cut passes the balance point. On skirting that can close the kerf or throw the end down. WIS36’s either-side support is the control, on the infeed as well as the offcut. A hand reaching in is a poor substitute for a roller already at the saw table.
