Roller stand buying guide

Updated: October 2026

A 2.4 m board on a table saw starts to tip once the balance point passes the blade, and the first results offer three different tools under one name. This roller stand buying guide puts the decisions in order: whether you need a floor trestle, what height your machine bed sits at, what load applies at that height, and which head the feed needs. Price comes last. The three amazon.co.uk listings are on the [roller trestle comparison](/hub/workshop/roller-trestle). Products Compared read those listings and the maker pages on 19 October 2026. This is not a lab test. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Match the height before the brand

Draper’s page for the 70273 prints 670–1,060 mm. The amazon.co.uk bullets for B096G7L2K9 print 700–1,100 mm. Wolfcraft’s UK shop prints 630–1,000 mm for the 6102300. The listing bullets say 70 cm to 1 m, and the details field gives a minimum of 630 mm. The Performance Tool W54010 title says 69–109 cm. If your saw bed is 850 mm, a stand whose top is 700 mm never meets it. A 50–160 mm bench-top roller is the matching rise when the saw already lives on a workbench. Where the maker and the listing disagree, trust the height you will lock.

Read the kilogram figure at the height you will use

Draper’s product page splits the capacity: 60 kg at 670 mm and 30 kg at 1,060 mm. The amazon.co.uk bullet for B096G7L2K9 states 60 kg and leaves the half-load off. MyToolShed’s page repeats the 60 kg / 30 kg split, at £31.95 including VAT, against £26.96 on the amazon.co.uk listing in this comparison. If you will work near full extension, plan around 30 kg, labelled as Draper’s figure at 1,060 mm. Wolfcraft states 50 kg and does not add a second figure at full height. The Performance Tool title says 60 kg, and the details field says 59.87 kg. A higher kilogram rating does not add a ball head. On 19 October 2026 the shelf prices in this comparison were £26.96, £52.99 and £64.95.

Roller, balls, or a fixed rest

A cylindrical roller suits a feed that stays in one line, such as a rip or a face through a thicknesser. Balls suit a panel that also has to shift sideways. A fixed rest holds the piece still for a short pause. The wolfcraft 6102300 bullets name all three positions, with a 30 cm roller. The Draper 70273 is one roller, 282 × 48 mm. The Performance Tool W54010 title gives a single roller 28 cm wide. Straight rips point you at the single roller. Turning a kitchen worktop, then sending it on, is the case for balls, which the other two do not offer. If the timber has to stay put for the whole job, a sawhorse is the other tool.

What this guide will not choose for you

This page leaves the three listings unranked. The best roller stand page matches each listing to a person, including who should skip it. HSE sheet WIS16 asks for support at both ends of large work on a circular saw bench, so one trestle covers one end. Chop-saw placement is on the roller stand for a mitre saw page. A door on edge wants the timber held still. That split is on roller stand vs sawhorse. Using the column as a step sits under the Work at Height Regulations 2005, which treat a trestle as a working platform when it is the place you stand. These stands are sold as support for the work.

Common questions

Is 60 kg the load at full height?
On the Draper 70273, 60 kg is the low-height figure. Draper’s page prints 30 kg at 1,060 mm, and the amazon.co.uk bullet does not. Wolfcraft states 50 kg without a second figure. The Performance Tool title states 60 kg, with 59.87 kg in the details. Use the number that belongs to the height you will lock.
Do I want a roller, balls, or both?
Choose a roller when the timber travels in a straight line past the blade. Choose balls when the panel also has to move across the stand. Choose a fixed rest when you want the piece to sit still for a moment. In this set only the wolfcraft 6102300 bullets name all three. The Draper and the Performance Tool are single rollers.
Is a Trend-style stand the same thing?
The Trend R/STAND/A on the Screwfix grid is listed at 50–160 mm and £54.99. That is a bench-top roller, a short lift for a saw that already sits on a bench. A floor trestle in this comparison is the telescopic stand whose range is in the hundreds of millimetres. Check the height range before you treat a mid-£50s price as the same tool.
Do I need one stand or two?
One roller trestle supports one end of the work. HSE sheet WIS16 asks for support at infeed and outfeed on large work at a circular saw bench, so a single stand leaves the other end to you, to a second person, or to a second support. Several wolfcraft reviews say a second stand works better. That is a theme, not a count of buyers.
Why do the amazon.co.uk bullets differ from the maker’s page?
They are two published lines, and this guide keeps the clash. Draper’s shop says 670–1,060 mm. The amazon.co.uk bullets say 700–1,100 mm and print only the larger kilogram number. Wolfcraft’s shop says 630–1,000 mm, while the listing bullets say 70 cm to 1 m. Buy against the height you measured, and read the load the maker attaches to that height.
