Raccoon trap buying guide: sizes, doors and reviews

Updated: 17 October 2026

Searching for a raccoon trap on amazon.co.uk produces an awkward mix: eleven wire holding cages and one small acrylic exit flap, with product copy that often sounds written for North America. This raccoon trap buying guide helps you compare what is actually stated before you spend about £16.49 to about £180.99. Start with the full [raccoon trap comparison](/hub/traps/raccoon-trap) for the product table. The useful decision is whether the dimensions, door, trigger and review evidence match a lawful job in the UK. If you think the animal really is a raccoon, product choice stops being the first question. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What these listings actually are

Eleven products in this comparison are live-capture cages. An animal steps inside, operates a plate or trigger where one is specified, and a door closes to contain it. The PEUTIER is different: a 27 × 21 cm exclusion frame with a 21 × 16 cm one-way opening. It lets an animal leave a hole and does not hold it. The cage or one-way door page explains that split. Do not infer a second door from the product type. ARIFARO and Thealyn say double door. SARSTRY describes one spring-loaded door. Several Tcowoy listings say live plate door, or they do not state two doors. VOUNOT claims a pressure plate and tool-free assembly, but its bullets name rats, rabbits, martens and foxes rather than raccoons.

Reconcile the dimensions before the species claim

Write down every size line rather than trusting the largest number in the title. The 80 cm Thealyn is 80 × 33 × 27 cm in the title, 80 cm long by 27 cm wide by 33 cm high in a bullet, and 83 × 29 × 34 cm in the details. The 80 cm ARIFARO title says 80 × 28 × 26 cm, its bullet says 80 × 26.5 × 28.5 cm, and its details say 35 × 10 × 86 cm. Those differences affect the opening and standing room. The SARSTRY title and details agree on 79 × 28 × 33 cm, while one bullet swaps width and height. The 105 cm Thealyn keeps a 105 cm length, although its title reverses the 31 cm and 40 cm axes. The Tcowoy 24-inch details say 63 × 18.8 × 21 cm, yet the bullet still names raccoons. A Northern Ireland species alert gives raccoon body length as 40–70 cm. That is a scale comparison, not a cage-fit test, and it makes the narrow 18.8 cm figure the point to verify.

Compare the door, trigger and fold

A double door can let an animal see through the cage, and it gives you two closures to set and test. Thealyn and ARIFARO claim two doors. A review in the ARIFARO material says both sides or one side can be used. That is customer experience, not a universal instruction. SARSTRY specifies a single spring-loaded door. The Tcowoy 32D and 37-inch cages claim an adjustable-sensitivity trigger with a live plate door. The 24-inch and standard 32-inch listings do not. Folding appears on many cages. VOUNOT says assemble without tools rather than fold flat. If storage matters, use the exact wording for that listing. Shared Thealyn review text reports wind trips, doors sticking on uneven ground, missing clips and closures that fail. Test the mechanism on level ground with a stick before you leave it set.

Treat shared stars as one evidence pool

The two Thealyn sizes each show 3.6 from 382 reviews. The headings and bodies are shared across the 80 cm and 105 cm listings, and some review text refers to a different size. The ARIFARO 80 cm and 100 cm cages show the same 4.0 from 37, including text that names the larger model. Compare the pool once. The Tcowoy 32-inch cage shows 5.0 from two ratings, with one short UK review body. The 37-inch and 24-inch listings have no star line. PEUTIER shows 4.4 from 14, and all six written review bodies are marked Canada. Price comes after those checks. VOUNOT is the lowest-priced cage at about £35.99, and raccoons are absent from its bullets. The 57-inch Tcowoy costs about £180.99, weighs 17.2 kg and has one rating with no review body. More steel does not turn thin evidence into a top pick. Conditional recommendations are on the best raccoon trap shortlist.

Common questions

Why do UK listings mention armadillos and skunks?
The wording is broad marketplace copy reused for several countries and animals. It is not evidence that those species are relevant in Britain, and it does not establish legal permission. Use the stated dimensions, where any written review was marked, and public guidance for the animal you have identified.
Which dimension should I trust when fields disagree?
Do not silently choose one. Record the title, bullet and details values, then ask the seller or measure the delivered cage before setting it. A swapped width and height may be formatting. The ARIFARO details line of 35 × 10 × 86 cm is too different from the 80 cm title to dismiss without checking.
Is a 24-inch cage suitable because the bullet says raccoon?
The Tcowoy listing says raccoon, but its details are 63 × 18.8 × 21 cm and it has no rating or written review body. Species wording alone cannot establish fit. Verify the animal, the opening, the internal dimensions and whether the outcome is lawful before you treat that bullet as a size match.
Does galvanised mean the cage meets a British Standard?
No such standard or certification is stated in these listings. Galvanised steel is a material claim on several Tcowoy bullets, and SARSTRY also refers to galvanised wire. That wording does not by itself prove mesh strength, corrosion life or compliance with a named British Standard.
Can I add the shared review counts together?
No. The two Thealyn ASINs display the same 382-review pool, and the two ARIFARO ASINs display the same 37-review pool. Treat each shared count once, and keep that warning attached whenever you discuss a particular size.
What should I check before the star rating?
Confirm the animal, the lawful next step, the internal dimensions, the door arrangement and the trigger wording. Then check whether the rating belongs to that exact size, how many ratings support it, and whether any written review is marked United Kingdom. Only then compare the price.
