Makita cordless angle grinder buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You already own Makita 18 V LXT packs, or you are about to buy the first ones, and an amazon.co.uk search puts a £179.06 Makita bare unit next to a £29.99 body whose title also says Makita. This Makita cordless angle grinder buying guide is the order of those decisions: the packs you have, then the brand field, then the disc and the spindle, and only then the price. The [Makita cordless angle grinder comparison](/hub/tools/makita-cordless-angle-grinder) holds the seven listings captured on 21 October 2026. There is no lab test. Start with the batteries you already have

Every listing here is a bare body, from the DGA454Z at £179.06 and the XAG25Z at £124.27 to the Synxiter, JOJOCY, Gautesy and laloohome rows at £29.99 to £57.99. If a 5 Ah LXT pack is already on the drill, the body price can be the price of the job. If the drawer is empty, £29.99 does not switch anything on. UK reviews on the DGA454Z say heavy cutting eats batteries. Synxiter says at least a 4.0 Ah pack. G-series packs are excluded on the DGA504Z retail copy, and XGT packs do not fit LXT tools.

Genuine Makita or a body that only claims the packs

Paint colour is not a manufacturer. The brand field is Makita on the DGA454Z and the XAG25Z. The XAG25Z manufacturer line is Makita U.S.A. Inc., and the saved reviews are marked United States. Synxiter, laloohome, Gautesy and JOJOCY are other brands. JOJOCY's manufacturer line is cooponmile. Gautesy spells the system Ma-Kita, a search trick. Anti-restart on Makita UK's DGA504 sheet does not transfer unless the listing states it. The trigger failure and the cut-out are on the genuine or compatible page.

115 mm, 125 mm, or a 76 mm mini

The sizes do not share wheels. The only genuine 115 mm body here is the DGA454Z. The 125 mm rows in the table are Synxiter, laloohome, Gautesy and JOJOCY. A 125 mm disc does not belong in a 115 mm guard. Makita's current UK brushless catalogue size is 125 mm, the DGA504Z and DGA513Z, both M14 with a 22.23 mm bore and 29 mm stated depth. Neither ASIN is in this table. Reseller prices of £119.99 and £181.95 are not this amazon.co.uk capture. The £38.99 laloohome is a 76 mm mini at 20,000 rpm. The XAG25Z is not a simple answer to both sizes: see 115 mm or 125 mm.

Spindle, X-LOCK, and a speed that matches the disc

UK 125 mm Makita catalogue bodies use an M14 spindle. The hole in a standard wheel is 22.23 mm. Those are different measurements. The DGA454Z listing does not state a thread. UK reviews say 5/8 inch, matching Makita Canada's 5/8"-11 UNC note, so this £179.06 body can be the wrong spindle even though it leads. The XAG25Z takes X-LOCK accessories only. FEPA says machine speed must not exceed wheel speed, and HSG17 says wheels over 80 mm carry a maximum speed. Gautesy prints 9,000 rpm and 90,000 rpm. Do not treat 90,000 as the real speed. Fitting, battery off, is on the how to use a cordless angle grinder page.

What to leave for a professional

A bare 18 V body suits bolts, stud and short cuts in material you can identify, with the guard on and the disc rated for the rpm. It is the wrong tool for structural steel, material you cannot name, a guard that will not lock, and overhead work with a large wheel. At work, PUWER 1998 regulation 9 requires training. A householder still keeps the guard on and wears eye protection. HSG17 names BS EN 166 for dry grinding. Dust at work is a COSHH matter, and HSE's SR21 points at local exhaust.

Common questions

Does a Makita cordless grinder include a battery?
Not in this set. The DGA454Z title says bare unit, the XAG25Z title says bare tool, and every compatible listing says the battery is not included. Included discs, a wrench or a side handle do not replace the pack. Price the body and at least one 4.0 Ah or 5 Ah LXT pack if you do not already own one.
Will my LXT packs fit, including G-series?
LXT slide packs are what these bare tools are sold against. Makita UK's DGA504Z retail copy excludes G-series packs, and XGT packs do not fit LXT bodies. The DGA504Z is not an ASIN in this table, so treat that exclusion as catalogue copy, then check the pack code on the battery you actually own. A title that lists BL codes is a claim, not a proof that every pack locks.
Should I buy 115 mm or 125 mm?
Buy the diameter you can get discs for, and do not fit the other size in the guard. The genuine 115 mm body in this set is the DGA454Z. The 125 mm bodies in the table are third-party. Makita's current UK brushless cordless catalogue size is 125 mm, with a stated depth of 29 mm on the DGA504Z and DGA513Z. Those two are not rows in the comparison.
Is every Makita spindle M14?
No. UK catalogue 125 mm bodies such as the DGA504Z are M14, with a 22.23 mm bore. UK reviews on the DGA454Z say the spindle is 5/8 inch and not M14, in line with Makita Canada's listing for that model. The amazon.co.uk attribute table does not state a thread, so you confirm it before you order flanges.
What is X-LOCK, and do I want it?
X-LOCK is a tool-free wheel mount. On the XAG25Z the bullets say the tool is only compatible with X-LOCK accessories, so a normal threaded disc stays in the drawer. US reviews like the speed of the change and complain about the price and availability of the wheels. Choose it when you will buy X-LOCK discs. Skip it when you already own M14 or 5/8 inch wheels.
