Leatherman for camping

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are packing a rucksack for a UK campsite, and the multi-tool from the shed is about to go in the lid. A Leatherman for camping is that pack choice. You should know whether this trip needs a saw, a ferro rod, a whistle, a sheath and a bit kit, and which box contains them. Peter F. checked amazon.co.uk and uk.leatherman.com on 21 October 2026. There is no lab test of cutting or fire-lighting. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Sheath-bundle prices sit on the [Leatherman comparison](/hub/tools/leatherman). The bench choice is a different page.

What the pack is asking for

A pitch wants a saw, a spark if the lighter fails, a whistle, a sheath clear of the gas canister, and a weight you will carry. The Signal puts a ferro rod and a whistle in one tool: 19 tools at £154.95, 7.5 oz, sheath sold separately. The Skeletool CX is 141.75 g and has no saw. The Rebar's UK specification table lists 6.7 oz.

Signal, Rebar, or the shed's Wave+

Buy the Signal at £154.95 when you will use the ferro rod and the whistle. This page claims no success rate for the rod. The black Rebar bundle, ASIN B0GY5FYK4T, was £95.66 with a saw, replaceable cutters and a large MOLLE sheath. You open the handles to reach the saw. It is the best value when the sheath and the saw matter more than a fire steel. The Wave+ at £129.95 has a bit driver and no ferro rod. Keep it in the pack only if it is already the shed tool. Lock and driver sit in the Leatherman buying guide.

Sheath and bits

MOLLE Sheath V2 is £21.95. Large fits the Rebar, the Wave+ and the Skeletool CX. X-Large fits the Signal and the ARC. The Signal at £154.95 plus that sheath is £176.90 before a bit kit. The Rebar bundle already includes its sheath. The £29.95 bit kit does not fit the Rebar, and the MOLLE page does not say the pocket holds bit plates.

The tool stays with the kit

A locking blade still needs a good reason in public on the way to the pitch. A campsite booking does not lift that rule. The Signal, the Rebar and the Wave+ lock. Read the carrying a Leatherman in the UK page, and ask the police or a solicitor if you are stopped. After salt air or rain, stainless steel is not rust-proof.

Common questions

Which Leatherman is best for camping in the UK?
There is no single camping winner. The Signal is the top pick for a ferro rod and a whistle: £154.95, 19 tools, 7.5 oz, sheath sold separately. The black Rebar, ASIN B0GY5FYK4T at £95.66, is the best value for a saw, replaceable cutters and a sheath. A Wave+ you already keep for the shed, at £129.95 and 8.5 oz, can travel if you can do without the fire rod. The Skeletool CX is the light option only when you do not need a saw.
What does the Signal add that the Wave+ does not?
The Signal adds a ferrocerium rod, an emergency whistle, a hammer surface and a diamond sharpener. It is £154.95, with 19 tools and 7.5 oz. The Wave+ is £129.95, with 18 tools, a bit driver, outside access and 8.5 oz. Both take the separate bit kit, and neither tool-only price includes a sheath. Choose the Signal when you will use the rod and the whistle. The Wave+ costs less when those two stay folded in the drawer at home.
Is the Rebar enough for a campsite?
It is enough for a saw, replaceable wire cutters and pliers if you can live with inside access. The bundle with the large MOLLE sheath was £95.66 for 17 tools. You unfold the handles to reach the saw, and the £29.95 bit kit does not fit. The UK specification table lists 6.7 oz. There is no ferro rod and no whistle, so those two mean a Signal plus a sheath of its own.
How much does the Signal weigh, and does it come with a sheath?
uk.leatherman.com lists the Signal at 7.5 oz and 11.43 cm closed. The sheath is sold separately. MOLLE Sheath V2 is £21.95, with the Signal on the X-Large list and the Rebar and Wave+ on the Large list. The same pouch name can be the wrong size. Keep £154.95 as the tool price. The Signal sits outside the five sheath bundles on the main comparison.
Will the sheath hold the bit kit?
Let the sheath hold the tool, and give the bits their own pocket. The MOLLE page lists sizes and does not say it holds bit plates. The Rebar cannot use the kit. At £29.95 the kit fits the Signal, the Wave+, the ARC and the Skeletool CX, and the Skeletool CX bundle already includes 42 ends. On the ARC at £286.95, a review says the leather holster does not hold the plates. That listing showed 3.5 from two ratings.
Does the 25-year warranty cover the sheath?
The 25-year warranty covers the original owner's personal-use tool. Sheaths sit outside that cover in general. A torn MOLLE sheath is not a 25-year claim on the tool. UK claims go through Whitby & Co via uk.leatherman.com. They do not sharpen blades and they do not post spare parts. A cracked plier head, or a blade that will not lock, is for the warranty or the retailer at home.
