Leatherman buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are on amazon.co.uk comparing Leatherman pliers, and the photos do not show whether the tools open with the pliers closed or whether a bit kit fits the sheath. A Leatherman buying guide should settle the job before a dearer steel does the deciding. By the end you should know if you want a clip for parcels, a saw, several screw drives or a ferro rod. Bundle prices sit on the [Leatherman comparison](/hub/tools/leatherman). Peter F. checked uk.leatherman.com and those listings on 21 October 2026. This page was updated on 22 October 2026. There was no laboratory test of pliers force. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the job

Parcels and light DIY point at the Rev or the Wingman. On 21 October 2026 the Rev was £49.95 tool-only, with a locking 420HC plain blade, while the other implements do not lock. The Wingman was £69.95, with spring pliers, a combo blade and scissors. Both open from the outside, and neither takes a bit kit. The £20 gap is the scissors and the spring. A saw and replaceable cutters point at the Rebar, 17 tools at £84.95 to £93.95, or the Wave+, 18 tools and a bit driver at £129.95. Several screw drives point at the Skeletool CX at £109.95 or the ARC at £260.95. A ferro rod is the Signal at £154.95.

How the tools open, and what locks

The Rev, Wingman, Skeletool, Wave+ and ARC open tools with the pliers closed. The Rebar and the Bond open from the inside, so on a doorstep the saw is the awkward reach. The Rebar still suits a shed drawer. The bullet on B079MJBP21 also calls the Wave+ knife blade two-hand opening. Leatherman's stated one-hand opening is the ARC, at about twice the Wave+ price. The Bond lists the blade lock as no, with a published 2.8 in blade. A length under 3 inches does not make a multi-tool fine for a pocket. Read carrying a Leatherman in the UK before a pocket clip.

Bit driver or fixed screwdrivers

The Bit Kit Set is £29.95 for 21 double-ended bits, 42 ends. It fits the Wave+, ARC, Signal, Skeletool, Skeletool CX, Surge, Charge, Curl and MUT. The Rev, Wingman and Rebar are absent. A mix of Phillips, flat and hex is where the kit earns the £29.95. The eyeglass screwdriver is listed for the Arc, the Wave and the Charge only. B0GY5FLTMM is the CX with sheath and kit at £136.65. B0GY5L4TW5 is the ARC with holster and kit at £286.95. Seven CX tools against the Wave+'s 18 is the carry trade.

What the box contains

The tool-only price is the pliers. On 21 October 2026 the five amazon.co.uk boxes were the Rev with a medium nylon sheath at £60.70, the Wingman with a sheath at £79.70, a black Rebar with a large MOLLE sheath at £95.66, the CX with sheath and kit at £136.65, and the ARC with a leather holster and kit at £286.95. The ARC file shows 3.5 from 2 ratings, and the review says the holster does not hold the bit plates. The 4.7 from 7,159 ratings belongs only to Wave+ B079MJBP21. The 25-year warranty covers the original owner's tool, not sheaths.

Which way to go next

If you want one conditional top pick for a bench or a shed, use best Leatherman for a home or shed. The Wave+ is a long way round for parcels.

Common questions

Which Leatherman should I buy for parcels and light DIY?
For parcels and light DIY, compare the Rev at £49.95 with the Wingman at £69.95, tool-only on uk.leatherman.com on 21 October 2026. Both open with the pliers closed, and neither takes a bit kit. The Rev's 420HC plain blade locks, and its other implements do not. The Wingman adds spring pliers, a combo blade and scissors. If you need 42 bit ends, move to the Skeletool CX or the Wave+.
Which models take a Leatherman bit kit?
The Bit Kit Set is £29.95 and holds 21 double-ended bits, 42 ends. It fits the Wave+, ARC, Signal, Skeletool, Skeletool CX, Surge, Charge, Curl and MUT. The Rev, Wingman and Rebar are absent. An eyeglass screwdriver is listed for the Arc, the Wave and the Charge only. The CX and ARC bundles on the main table already include a kit.
When is the Rebar the better buy than the Wave+?
Choose the Rebar at £84.95 to £93.95 for 17 tools, locking implements, a saw and replaceable cutters, if you will open the handles to reach them. Choose the Wave+ at £129.95 for 18 tools, outside access and a bit driver. The Rebar cannot take the kit. If one-handed blade opening matters, read the two-hand bullet on B079MJBP21 beside the ARC.
Does the Skeletool CX replace a full-size tool?
The CX replaces a full-size tool only when seven tools and a bit driver are the whole job. It has 154CM steel and a published 5 oz, at £109.95, or £136.65 with a sheath and kit. The Wave+ has 18 tools at £129.95, and the Surge has 21 tools at £159.95. Move to the Rebar or the Wave+ when a saw is the point.
Why is the ARC bundle dearer than the tool-only ARC?
The tool-only ARC was £260.95. Bundle B0GY5L4TW5 was £286.95 and adds a leather holster and a bit kit. The kit alone is £29.95, so most of the £26 gap is bits. That file shows 3.5 from 2 ratings, and the review says the holster does not hold the bit plates. The warranty covers the original owner's tool, not sheaths. Both prices are MagnaCut.
