Air vs cordless die grinder

Updated: 22 October 2026

You already own a compressor or a battery platform, and you do not want a die grinder that fights that kit. This page is only that choice, using the six air tools and two cordless tools in our [die grinder comparison](/hub/tools/die-grinder). Peter F. read the amazon.co.uk captures on 21 October 2026. We did not measure free air or runtime. Collets and head shape are on the [die grinder buying guide](/hub/tools/die-grinder/sub/die-grinder-buying-guide). Start from the hose or the pack you already own

If a compressor already runs an impact gun, an air die grinder is the shorter step, if the tank holds pressure while the burr cuts. The six air rows run from the Yosoo kit at £16.69 to the Anesty kit at £35.90, around 90 psi (about 6 bar). With no compressor, only two cordless rows are in this folder, and they are not interchangeable. The LengSuaa title says DeWalt 18 V and the bullets name Makita 18 V codes. There is no battery, and the price is £39.99. The YEARTOP is its own 12 V kit at £59.99, with two packs and a UK 3-pin charger. Your 18 V packs do not fit it. UK reviews call the cheap air kits extremely noisy, and no listing prints a decibel figure.

What the six air listings actually print

The WORKPRO WG803 at £21.99 states 85.5 litres a minute at 90 psi, 25,000 rpm, and 3 mm and 6 mm collets. That is about 3 cubic feet a minute as arithmetic, not a free-air test, at 4.6 from 73. UK text reports a coarse throttle and one tool that died after two months. It is the top pick on the best die grinder UK page because the air figure is printed. The QWORK at £25.99 prints 6 CFM at 6 bar on a 12,000 rpm disc tool, at 3.6 from 63, with leak reports. Sealey, ORAZIO, Yosoo and Anesty leave consumption blank. UK buyers still say a 50 litre tank runs out on the Sealey and the ORAZIO. A gauge at 90 psi means the tank is full, not that output matches the tool under load.

The two cordless rows, and when to switch

Choose the YEARTOP with no compressor and batteries in the box. It states speeds up to 19,700 rpm, a 1/4 inch collet (6.35 mm), two packs and a UK charger. The line is 5.0 from two reviews. A 6 mm burr is not a proper fit. The packs are this kit's own 12 V batteries. Leave the LengSuaa until the mount matches a pack you own. Two battery brands in one listing, and an empty rating, are not repaired by a speed range of 8,000 to 26,000 rpm. If the compressor holds pressure through a cut, stay on air. Do not switch to cordless because you think it will be quiet. Starting off the work is the how to use a die grinder page.

Which power source to buy

If the compressor already holds pressure while a cutter is loaded, stay on air and prefer a row that prints consumption. If you have no hose and you want packs and a UK charger in the box, the YEARTOP is the complete kit in this set, with a 1/4 inch collet and two reviews. If you hoped an unnamed 18 V body would match the batteries on the shelf, leave the LengSuaa until the rails match a pack you can hold.

Common questions

If I already have a compressor, should I still buy a cordless die grinder?
Usually no. The air rows in this set cost less, from £16.69 to £35.90, and a compressor you already trust is the power source they are built for. Cordless earns its place when the job is away from the hose, or when the tank cannot hold pressure once the burr is loaded. The YEARTOP is then the complete kit in this folder. It is still a 12 V tool with two reviews, not a stronger substitute for a well fed air pencil.
How much air is enough for these die grinders?
Enough free air at about 90 psi to keep the tool at speed while it cuts. The WORKPRO listing states 85.5 L/min at 90 psi, about 3 CFM as arithmetic, not as a test. The QWORK states 6 CFM at 6 bar. Sealey, ORAZIO, Yosoo and Anesty do not print consumption. UK reviews still say a 50 litre tank runs out on the Sealey and the ORAZIO kit. Match free-air delivery, not the tank's litre badge.
Does a 12 V kit replace an 18 V body?
Not in this folder. The YEARTOP is a closed 12 V kit with its own packs and a UK charger. The LengSuaa is an 18 V-style body with no pack, and the listing disagrees with itself about DeWalt and Makita. Your 18 V batteries do not slide onto the YEARTOP, and you should not assume they slide onto the LengSuaa. Runtime and stall behaviour are not printed for either row.
What if the listing names two battery brands?
Treat that as a conflict, not as a bonus. The LengSuaa title prints DeWalt 18 V / 20 V and the bullets print Makita 18 V pack codes. Both cannot be the mount. There is no review line to break the tie. Confirm the rails against a pack you own before you rely on it, or buy a kit whose batteries are in the box and named as its own, which is the YEARTOP.
Will an air die grinder freeze my hands?
Air tools exhaust cold air, and a long session on a cheap pencil will chill and numb a bare hand, especially in a UK garage in January. Rear exhaust, stated on the WORKPRO, Yosoo and ORAZIO listings, moves that blast away from the cut. It does not remove it. Gloves that still let you release the lever, and shorter passes, are the practical limit. We do not have a temperature figure from these listings.
Is a cordless die grinder quieter?
We cannot say that from this set. UK reviews call the cheap air kits extremely noisy, and no listing prints a decibel measurement for either the air tools or the two cordless tools. Do not buy the YEARTOP or the LengSuaa on a guess that battery power is quiet. Hearing protection stays sensible for both families until you have heard the actual tool.
