DeWalt angle grinder buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have four DeWalt angle grinder listings open, and the model codes do not say whether a battery is in the box. This DeWalt angle grinder buying guide puts the choices in order: where you will work, which disc the tool is built for, whether the box is a bare body, and which switch that page names. Shelf prices on the amazon.co.uk listings of 19 October 2026 were £59.99, £107.50, £131.90 and £188.05. The rows sit in the [DeWalt angle grinder comparison](/hub/tools/de-walt-angle-grinder). This is not a lab test. A qualifying amazon.co.uk purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Mains or 18 V

The DWE4036-GB is the only corded machine. The title states 750 W and 115 mm, and the price is £59.99. Its manual is 230 V AC. The DCG406N-XJ, DCG407N-XJ and DCG404N-XJ are 18 V XR bodies, and the box does not include a battery. On a construction site the Health and Safety Executive prefers cordless tools, or a 110 V centre-tapped supply. If you already own DeWalt 18 V packs, a bare body can be the smaller extra spend. If you do not, £59.99 is the only price here that buys a tool which spins when it arrives. The longer split is on the cordless or corded DeWalt angle grinder page.

115 mm or 125 mm

The DWE4036 is a 115 mm tool. The three cordless bodies are 125 mm. A 125 mm disc does not belong on the 115 mm spindle. The DCG406 manual rates a grinding wheel at 125 mm, caps a wire wheel at 115 mm, states 9,000 rpm, and uses an M14 thread. The DWE4036 manual states 11,800 rpm and 115 mm. Match bore, thickness and the maximum rpm on the disc to the rating plate. If you already keep 125 mm metal discs, the corded listing will not share them. How to mount the guard is on the how to use a DeWalt angle grinder page.

What N and tool only change

DeWalt’s N suffix, and “tool only” on the title, mean the battery and the charger are not in that carton. The DCG407 included-components row says no. The DCG404 listing says batteries are required and are not included, and it lists a side handle, both guards and a hex wrench. The DCG406 cell only says “Components included”. UK reviews call that ASIN a bare unit without a TSTAK. £131.90 or £188.05 is the price of the body. A 2.0 Ah pack is the size reviews here set aside for continuous cutting. Which Ah to own is on the DeWalt angle grinder battery life page.

Switch, brake and clutch on these listings

UK reviews of the DCG406 call it a paddle. Amazon’s bullets name an electronic brake and an electronic clutch. The DCG407 highlight says slide-switch operation. Its bullets name a clutch and do not name a brake. Tooled-Up’s labels agree: slide for the DCG407, paddle for the DCG406. The dewalt.co.uk title for the DCG407 has said paddle and has mixed in a two-battery kit, so that title and the Amazon highlight are not the same sentence. The DCG404 bullets name a brake, a clutch and electronic soft start, and they do not name the switch. The DWE4036 bullet is a no-volt release: the switch has to be reset after you plug in.

Figures you should not buy on

The DCG406 Amazon row prints 3,600 W. An 18 V body does not deliver that. The manual’s output figure is 800 W, and it is still not a runtime. The DWE4036 marketing line of 1,800 rpm conflicts with the manual’s 11,800 rpm. Use the manual when you match a disc. Dimension cells of 3.37 × 1.25 × 1.56 m on the DCG406, and 10 × 10 × 10 mm on the DCG407, are not the tool in your hand. The DCG404 was first available on 6 May 2026, and 13 ratings do not make a newer body the proven one. None of these titles is FlexVolt, and a DCG405 kit is not an ASIN here.

Common questions

Does N mean no battery?
On these listings, yes. The N suffix and “tool only” mean the grinder body. The DCG407 row says no battery, and the DCG404 page says batteries are required and are not included. UK reviews call the DCG406 a bare unit without a TSTAK. Budget a genuine 18 V XR pack and a charger if you do not already own them.
Can I put a 125 mm disc on the DWE4036?
No. The DWE4036 title and manual are 115 mm. The DCG406, DCG407 and DCG404 titles are 125 mm. Match diameter, bore, thickness and the maximum rpm on the disc to the plate on that tool. A wire wheel is capped at 115 mm in the DCG406 manual even on the 125 mm grinder.
Is the DCG407 a slide switch or a paddle?
The amazon.co.uk highlight for B0F9LG2N1B says slide switch. UK reviews and Tooled-Up’s label agree. The dewalt.co.uk title has said paddle and has described a kit, so do not merge the two pages. The paddle that glove-wearing reviewers describe attaches to the DCG406.
Is 3,600 W on the DCG406 Amazon row real?
Treat the 3,600 W cell as a bad figure, not motor output. The DCG406 manual states 800 W output, 9,000 rpm and a 125 mm grinding wheel. Use that manual when you choose a disc. Use 4.7 from 534 ratings on 19 October 2026 when you judge how many people have rated the listing.
Do I need FlexVolt for these four?
No. These cordless titles are 18 V XR bodies, and the corded tool is mains. FlexVolt is a separate DeWalt platform. A DCG405 kit that other sites recommend, including any “69 cuts” claim on a 5.0 Ah pack, is outside this set.
What should I check before I pay for a bare body?
Confirm the disc diameter, the suffix, and the switch sentence on that ASIN. The DCG407 bullets do not name a brake. Reviewers say 2.0 Ah packs fade in minutes, so plan on 4 Ah or 5 Ah. Thirteen ratings on the dearest body is a thinner base than 534 on the DCG406.
