Best DeWalt angle grinder

Updated: October 2026

Several UK pages call a DCG405 kit, often with two 5.0 Ah batteries, the best DeWalt angle grinder. That kit is not an ASIN in this set. The listings here are the DCG406N-XJ at £131.90, the DCG407N-XJ at £107.50, the corded DWE4036-GB at £59.99, and the DCG404N-XJ at £188.05, from the amazon.co.uk listings of 19 October 2026. The [DeWalt angle grinder comparison](/hub/tools/de-walt-angle-grinder) holds the four rows. This is not a lab test. If you already own 18 V packs

If you already own DeWalt 18 V XR packs, the split is between two 125 mm bare bodies. The DCG406N-XJ is £131.90 with 4.7 from 534 ratings. Its bullets name an electronic brake and an electronic clutch. UK reviews describe a paddle. The DCG407N-XJ is £107.50 with 4.7 from 78 ratings. The highlight says slide-switch operation. The bullets name a clutch and do not name a brake. Pay the extra £24.40 for the DCG406 when that named brake is what you want, and the packs are 4 Ah or 5 Ah. Reviews say a 2.0 Ah pack goes flat in minutes. Take the DCG407 when the lower bare price is the point and a slide switch is acceptable. One review says the locking nut loosened after about two weeks. Pack life is on the DeWalt angle grinder battery life page.

If you do not own batteries

If you do not already own 18 V packs, the only listing that spins when it arrives is the DWE4036-GB at £59.99, 4.5 from 41 ratings, 115 mm and 750 W. The manual is 230 V AC and 11,800 rpm. The bullets name a no-volt release plus a cutting guard and a grinding guard. Reviewers describe a slim tool that cut concrete roof tiles and helped take a caravan apart. One review says the outer flange loosened until the disc left the spindle. Another says a guard broke. Both are single reports. A bare cordless price is the body only. Skip the DWE4036 when the job needs 125 mm discs, or on a site that should be cordless or 110 V centre-tapped. The longer split is on the cordless or corded DeWalt angle grinder page.

If the gap is tight

The DCG404N-XJ is the compact 125 mm bare body at £188.05, with 4.6 from 13 ratings. The bullets name an electronic brake, a clutch and electronic soft start. The box lists a side handle, both guards and a hex wrench, and no battery. It was first available on 6 May 2026. One UK review calls it light for small occasional DIY and reported about 10 minutes from a genuine pack during professional cutting, then went back to a mains grinder. That is one job, not an average. Consider it only when you already own packs and the compact body, with brake and soft start named, is why you would pay more than the DCG406.

What this page will not call best

Best here means the listing that matches where you stand, the disc you own, and whether a battery is already in the house. The DCG406 and the DCG407 both show 4.7. The difference is 534 ratings against 78, plus the brake the DCG406 bullets name. A clutch in a bullet is not a substitute for the guard. None of these four titles is FlexVolt or a 230 mm machine. Amazon’s 3,600 W cell on the DCG406 is not a usable power figure. The manual’s output is 800 W. If you still need the choices in order, use the DeWalt angle grinder buying guide.

Common questions

Which of these four should I buy if I own 18 V batteries?
If the packs are 18 V XR of 4 Ah or 5 Ah, the DCG406N-XJ is the body with a brake named in the bullets, at £131.90 and 4.7 from 534 ratings. The DCG407N-XJ at £107.50 is the lower bare price if a slide switch is acceptable and no brake is named. Those packs do not power the 230 V DWE4036.
Is the cheapest one a false economy?
The DWE4036 at £59.99 is a complete tool beside a UK socket when 115 mm discs are enough. It is poor value when you need 125 mm, or when the site should be cordless or 110 V centre-tapped. A £107.50 bare body can cost more once you add a 5 Ah pack and a charger.
Why is the compact model the dearest bare body?
The DCG404N-XJ is £188.05, above the DCG406, with brake, clutch and soft start named. It was first available on 6 May 2026 and has 13 ratings. Those lines are real. They are not a measured runtime. Pay the premium when the compact body is the requirement.
Does best mean the most reviews?
The most-reviewed body is the DCG406, with 534 ratings against 78, 41 and 13. A larger sample is not a lab win, and 4.7 against 4.7 does not by itself separate it from the DCG407. Read the switch and the brake line as well.
Should I wait and buy a DCG405 kit instead?
Only if you have left this shortlist. Other UK pages crown a DCG405 kit with two 5.0 Ah batteries, and that kit is not one of these four ASINs. A merchant “69 cuts” line belongs to that other model.
Who should not buy the DWE4036?
Skip the DWE4036 if you need 125 mm discs, if the lead is the problem, or if the site should be cordless or 110 V centre-tapped. The manual is 230 V AC and 115 mm. For socket-side 115 mm work it is the low-price listing in this set.
Are the badges a test result?
No. The marks come from listing stars, the review-count band, category fit and the price band. The DCG406 has the highest total. The DWE4036 is the price-band pick because £59.99 is the lowest shelf price. Neither figure is a safety ranking or a workshop test.
