Corded or cordless Bosch angle grinder

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are looking at a Bosch Professional lead grinder under £80 and an 18 V body from about £89, and the cordless price looks close enough to decide the question. It does not, until you see what each shelf includes. A corded or cordless Bosch angle grinder choice in this set is a ready-to-plug tool against a bare body plus the Professional pack you may not own yet. The rows and the GBP prices are the amazon.co.uk listings in the [Bosch Professional angle grinder comparison](/hub/tools/bosch-professional-angle-grinder), taken on 19 October 2026. Peter F. compared those pages with HSE's site-electrical guidance. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What £67 and £89 actually buy

The 240 V GWS 7-115, B01D9QAG9G, is £67.55. Style, voltage field and scope line say 240 V. You get a 720 W, 11,000 rpm, 1.9 kg tool. You do not get a cutting disc. The 230 V GWS 9-115 S at £77.00 adds speed selection in the bullets, at 900 W. Both plug into a normal UK house supply. Neither needs a battery. The named GWS 18V-8, B0DQV9X3BX, is £89.44 for an 800 W listing at 1.22 kg, part 06019N9000, with 4.7 from 531 ratings. The style says without battery or charger. UK reviews call it enough for short cuts, such as nails. The £89 figure is about £22 above the 240 V lead, and it still needs a pack and a disc.

The battery is a second tool

Bosch Professional's 18 V guidance treats GBA and ProCORE as the packs inside that Professional system, not every battery with 18 V printed on it. The GWS 18V-11 manual recommends at least 4.0 Ah for that family. On the 125 mm L-BOXX GWS 18V-8, a Netherlands review says a Gardena-Bosch universal pack does not fit. The listing does not print that warning. If your only batteries are green or Gardena-style, the corded tool is the one that runs tonight. One UK review on part 06019N4000 at £148.99 puts extra batteries at about £50 to £80. That is one reviewer's range, not a live ProCORE price. A German review prefers ProCORE when a normal pack cuts out under load. An L-BOXX is a case, and the included line still omits the battery.

Lead, runtime, and a site

A corded GWS 7-115 stays on the socket for as long as the motor and the disc allow. UK reviews are the limit: the housing can be too hot to hold after about 10 to 15 minutes, with a burning smell on some units. You also live with the lead and a socket you trust. A cordless body is the better reach for a short cut away from that socket, which is what the GWS 18V-8 reviews describe. The same reviews say longer work eats a small pack. HSE's HSG141 puts battery tools first on a construction site because they remove the lead, then 110 V centre-tapped supplies. A cordless tool is not a safer disc. The guard, the wheel speed and both hands stay the same. A 230 V lead on a site is a different problem, handled on the 110V Bosch angle grinder page.

Which row to open

Choose the lead when you want one price to include the motor and the supply. For a house socket and short 115 mm work, that is the 240 V GWS 7-115 at £67.55. If the house job needs a slower disc, the 230 V GWS 9-115 S at £77.00 is the best value step. Both still need a disc. The £65.00 GWS 7-115 is not the cheap version while its style and voltage field disagree. Choose the bare 18 V body when the Professional packs are already yours. The named GWS 18V-8 at £89.44 is the short-cut default. Part 06019N4000 at £148.99 states a 6-speed dial. Part 06019N4100 at £135.95 does not. The order is the buying guide. Common questions

Is the £89 GWS 18V-8 cheaper than the £67 corded tool?
The shelf is not. The named GWS 18V-8 is £89.44 and the 240 V GWS 7-115 is £67.55, so the bare body is already about £22 more before a pack, a charger and a disc. It is the cheaper route only when you already own Bosch Professional packs and a charger. A new pack on top of £89.44 moves it further from the corded price.
What do I still have to buy for a cordless body?
A Bosch Professional pack, a charger if you lack one, and a disc. No cordless style in this set includes a battery or a charger. No scope line includes a cutting disc. The GWS 18V-11 family is the one whose manual asks for at least 4.0 Ah. One UK review puts packs at about £50 to £80, which you should check live rather than add to the tool price as if it were today's figure.
Will my green Bosch 18 V batteries run a blue grinder?
Treat them as a different system until the manual for your part says otherwise. Professional guidance points to GBA and ProCORE. A Netherlands review on the 125 mm L-BOXX GWS 18V-8 says a Gardena-Bosch universal 18 V pack does not fit. The amazon listing does not print that limit. If the packs you own are green DIY or Gardena-style, the corded GWS 7-115 or GWS 9-115 S is the purchase that does not depend on them.
When is a lead the simpler buy?
When you have a house socket, the cuts are close to it, and you do not already own Professional 18 V packs. The 240 V GWS 7-115 at £67.55 is then a complete electrical buy apart from the disc. The 230 V GWS 9-115 S at £77.00 is the simpler buy when you also want speed selection. You still stop if the housing burns.
When does HSE prefer the battery tool?
On a construction site, HSG141 ranks battery tools first because they remove the trailing lead, and 110 V centre-tapped supplies next. That order is about electric shock. It does not make the disc, the guard or the dust any milder. A cordless grinder with no pack in the box is not yet that battery tool.
