Bosch cordless impact driver buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You already know you want a Bosch hex impact driver, and the amazon.co.uk card is showing a body around £78. That figure is the tool, not a ready system, if the cupboard has no matching battery. This Bosch cordless impact driver buying guide puts the decisions in order: holder, battery family, whether a pack is in the box, then the modes. The five saved prices and star lines sit on the [Bosch cordless impact driver comparison](/hub/tools/bosch-cordless-impact-driver). The Products Compared editorial team used the amazon.co.uk listings saved for this set on 20 October 2026 and Bosch's UK pages. We did not drive screws with these tools. Start with the batteries you already own

The pack on the shelf decides the body. Green POWER FOR ALL packs run the UniversalImpactDrive 18V-210. Blue Professional 18 V packs, including AMPShare, run the GDR 18V-200, the GDR 18V-215, and the GDX 18V-285. A 12 V pack does not run an 18 V tool, and an 18 V pack does not belong on the GDR 12V-105. If the cupboard is empty, the 18 V rows are sold without a battery. The GDR 18V-215 title says without battery or charger even though a battery-count cell prints 1. Trust the title. Only the 12 V set, at £239.99, includes two 2.0 Ah packs, a GAL 12V-40, and a bag.

Hex, 2-in-1, or leave for a wrench

A GDR and the green UniversalImpactDrive take a 1/4 inch hex bit. That is the tool for screws. The GDX 18V-285 keeps a hex socket and adds a 1/2 inch square, which is why it stays in this comparison at 285 Nm tightening. A square-only GDS, and Bosch's DIY 18V-350 wrench, are not in this table. The green Amazon title still says impact wrench. A UK review describes a 1/4 inch holder, and Bosch's DIY page describes screwdriving. Breakaway torque on the GDX, up to 500 Nm, is for undoing a fixing. Tightening stays at 285 Nm.

Modes and the printed torque

The GDR 18V-200 is trigger-only. A UK reviewer said there is no speed or torque select, and control is trigger pressure. Bosch's page for order 06019J2105 states 200 Nm, a 126 mm head, and no auto modes. The 215, order 06019N2020, states 215 Nm, two speeds, and auto modes for metal and wood that shut the tool down or slow it when impacting starts. Those modes need the trigger fully down, and they work in forward. Short wood screws under 50 mm may not trigger the slow-down. Printed torque is a ceiling, not the torque on your bolt. 210 Nm on the green tool is a different purchase from 215 Nm on the blue tool, because the packs do not interchange.

Read the order number, not the stray Amazon cell

Several specification cells reprint a figure that belongs somewhere else. On the GDR 18V-215 the maximum chuck size cell prints 126 mm, which is the head length, not a chuck diameter. On the GDR 18V-200 the speed cells print 200 rpm, which conflicts with a 200 Nm impact driver. On the GDX the rotational-speed cell prints 200 mph. On the 12 V kit the speed cell prints 2.6 rpm, and the torque cell prints 120 Nm for the whole set. Bosch's page for the GDR 12V-105 states 105 Nm and screws from M4 to M12. Match the order number before the body goes in the basket. Green is 06039E7000. The 215 is 06019N2020. The 200 is 06019J2105. The GDX L-BOXX row is 06019N2100. The kit is 06019A6979.

Common questions

I already own green POWER FOR ALL packs. Which body do I buy?
Buy the UniversalImpactDrive 18V-210, order 06039E7000, at £78.90 on the saved amazon.co.uk listing. It is a 1/4 inch hex driver listed at 210 Nm with two speeds, and the box does not include a battery. A blue GDR will not run on that green pack. Bosch states that POWER FOR ALL and the Professional 18 V system, including AMPShare, are separate alliances. This body also has no square drive if the job later needs sockets.
I already own blue Professional 18 V packs. Which body do I buy?
Stay on Professional 18 V. The GDR 18V-215 at £77.95 adds two speeds and auto wood and metal modes. The GDR 18V-200 at £114.00 is trigger-only at 200 Nm. The GDX 18V-285 at £162.99 adds a 1/2 inch square beside the hex. None of those cartons includes a battery. Which listing to open first, once the review notes are in the decision, is on the best page.
Is the £77.95 GDR 18V-215 the whole cost?
The title says without battery or charger, so £77.95 is the body. A battery-count cell that prints 1 conflicts with that title. Budget a Professional 18 V pack and a charger if you do not already own them. The Bosch shop showed a two 5.0 Ah kit at £401.46 in the same research week. That kit is not this Amazon ASIN.
Is 210 Nm on the green tool the same buy as 215 Nm on the blue tool?
The numbers sit close together, and so do the shelf prices, £78.90 against £77.95. The batteries do not. POWER FOR ALL packs run the green driver. Professional packs run the GDR. One UK reviewer of the green listing found an existing Bosch drill battery would not fit. Match the family before you treat the torque lines as the same purchase.
When is the 12 V kit the first purchase?
Choose it when the screws stay around M4 to M12 and you want two packs in the bag on day one. The saved kit is £239.99 and includes the GSB 12V-15, the GDR 12V-105, two 2.0 Ah packs, a GAL 12V-40, and a bag. Those packs will not run an 18 V body. If you already own 18 V packs, a bare 18 V hex body is the shorter path.
