Bosch 18V or 12V impact driver

Updated: 22 October 2026

The £239.99 kit looks finished because the batteries are already in the bag. A Bosch 18V or 12V impact driver decision is whether that bag matches the screws, or whether an 18 V body you can clip onto packs you already own is the shorter path. The 12 V tool in this set is the GDR 12V-105 inside a two-tool kit. The 18 V tools run from 200 Nm to 285 Nm and use a different battery. Prices for all five rows are on the [Bosch cordless impact driver comparison](/hub/tools/bosch-cordless-impact-driver). The kit was saved on 20 October 2026. We did not fit a kitchen. What 12 V is for

Bosch's GB page for the GDR 12V-105 states 105 Nm, screws from M4 to M12, a head length of 137 mm, and a weight of 0.96 kg with a pack. That is a pocket driver for carcass screws, hinge screws, and furniture screws in that class. It is a weak choice for long structural screws or anything you already know needs the 200 Nm class. A long coach screw into a joist is the point where an 18 V body is the more honest tool. M4 to M12 is a thread range, not a promise about every length.

What the £239.99 kit actually contains

ASIN B07ZKXYKVB, order 06019A6979, is £239.99 on the saved amazon.co.uk listing, with a line of 4.7 from 305 reviews. Included components name the GSB 12V-15 combi drill, the GDR 12V-105 impact driver, two 2.0 Ah packs, a GAL 12V-40 charger, and a bag. You are carrying two tools and a charger, which is why an 18 V owner may not want a second system.

The 120 Nm cell and the review file

The Amazon table prints one 120 Nm cell for the set, and a speed cell of 2.6 rpm. The speed cell is a listing conflict. The 120 Nm cell is not split between the drill and the driver, so it is not a second rating that lifts the GDR above Bosch's 105 Nm. Use 105 Nm and M4 to M12 from the Bosch page. The review file is not only praise. A bag zip fails in the UK notes. One impact driver died after about ten screws. A returned set had combi chuck run-out. A dead driver after a handful of screws is a return, not a running-in period.

When 18 V is the shorter path

Professional 12 V packs do not run a Professional 18 V GDR, a GDX, or the green POWER FOR ALL 18V-210. An 18 V pack does not belong on the 12V-105. If the shelf already holds blue 18 V batteries, the GDR 18V-215 at £77.95 or the GDR 18V-200 at £114.00 uses them. Both are body only, at 215 Nm or 200 Nm. If the shelf is green, the UniversalImpactDrive 18V-210 at £78.90 is the matching hex body, without a battery. Some owners who already run 18 V still keep a 12 V kit for tight kitchens. That is a second system, with its own charger. It makes less sense as a first kit when the screws will not stay inside M4 to M12.

Common questions

Is 105 Nm enough instead of 200 Nm?
It is enough when the screws stay in the M4 to M12 class Bosch states for the GDR 12V-105, such as carcass and furniture screws. It is the wrong comparison when the screw is a long coach screw or a structural bolt. The 18 V hex bodies in this set are listed at 200 Nm and 215 Nm. Those figures are ceilings under Bosch's test, and they still need a pack from the 18 V family.
What does M4–M12 actually allow?
Bosch's page for the 12V-105 states screws from M4 to M12, and the manual caps screw diameter at 8 mm. An M4 hinge screw and an M8 furniture bolt sit in that band. Length and material still change the load. A long screw into hardwood can stall a 105 Nm driver that would have seated a short screw of the same diameter. If your fixings are already outside that band, start with an 18 V body.
Does the £239.99 kit include everything I need to start?
The saved listing includes two tools, two 2.0 Ah packs, a GAL 12V-40 charger, and a bag. You can charge and drive without buying a separate pack. Bits are not named in the included-components line, so budget impact-rated hex bits. The charger named here is the GAL 12V-40. A GAL 12V-20 mentioned on other kits is not this row.
Will these 2.0 Ah packs run my 18 V GDR?
No. They are Professional 12 V packs for the GSB 12V-15 and the GDR 12V-105. A GDR 18V-200, GDR 18V-215, or GDX 18V-285 needs a Professional 18 V pack. The green 18V-210 needs POWER FOR ALL. Buying the kit to feed an 18 V driver leaves you with packs that will not clip on.
Why does Amazon print 120 Nm on the kit?
The specification table prints one 120 Nm cell for the set. It does not say how that figure splits between the combi drill and the impact driver. Bosch's own page for the GDR 12V-105 states 105 Nm. Use 105 Nm for the driver. Treat 120 Nm as an unsplit set cell, and treat the 2.6 rpm speed cell as a listing conflict.
I already own 18 V packs. Should I still buy 12 V?
Buy 12 V as well if you regularly work in tight carcasses and you want the shorter head, and you accept a second charger and a second pack size. The GDR 12V-105 head is 137 mm on the Bosch page, against 126 mm on the 18 V GDR bullets. Skip 12 V if those 18 V packs already cover the screws you fit. A bare 18 V body is then the smaller purchase.
