Garden tool wall rack for rakes, spades and brooms

Updated: October 2026

A garden tool wall rack should get long handles off the shed or garage floor without turning them into falling hazards. That calls for a hook rail, not a narrow rack designed to cradle cordless drills. In the [tools wall comparison](/hub/tool-accessories/tools-wall), Zacurter and Housolution are the two relevant rail sets. Their hook counts, outdoor descriptions and load statements differ. This guide explains how to choose between them, why the wall may matter more than the headline capacity, and which products from the wider comparison belong to other jobs. We did not measure a safe working load. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

A drill slot will not hold a spade

Power-tool racks support a compact body above a narrow slot. A rake or spade has a long handle and a broad head, and nothing that rests across a 4.5 cm drill opening. Forcing one format to do the other job can leave the tool on an edge or leaning into a walkway. A garden rail supports the handle, or a hole in the grip, with hooks along the wall. Keep spade heads off paths and vehicles. Smooth broom handles can slide off a poorly shaped open hook. Thirty-two hooks do not mean 32 rakes. Lay the collection out at the proposed spacing and leave room to lift each item clear. Drill racks stay useful for drills. A larger kilogram figure does not make them a spade rack. If you need several formats, start with the tool wall buying guide.

What the two hook rails actually print

The £19.99 Zacurter is four 16-inch rails with 32 hooks. The bullets name rakes, shovels, spades, brooms and mops, and the specification marks outdoor use. amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 1,298 reviews. A UK reviewer would not use it for a heavy mattock. The page states 150 lb with no kilogram figure and no test method. The £39.99 Housolution also uses four rails, with 12 larger hooks that move without tools. The listing says indoor and outdoor, and the box includes screws, plugs and straps. Movable hooks are why it is the top pick for mixed handled tools. The title states 570 lb and the shelf-weight field says 19.95 kg, with no test method and no note of whether either figure is a hook, a rail or the set. Do not average them. UK reviews say the plug instructions are unclear, and one buyer replaced the L-brackets. A 4.7 from 427 ratings does not resolve that.

Shed walls are often the weak part

A rail is only as dependable as the structure behind the screws. Brick, concrete and sound timber need different fixings. Thin timber sheet or plastic shed cladding may not be load-bearing. A screw that feels tight can still pull through when a long tool levers on the hook. Some sheds need a timber batten across the uprights. GearHooks notes that certain sheds need a 2-by-2 batten for its own product. That is a construction warning, not a capacity for these rails. Identify uprights and services before you drill. Keep heavy tools low and off walking routes. Neither listing prints a coating standard. Keep the rails ventilated, and do not store wet tools against them. The tool wall mounting guide covers masonry and plasterboard. If you cannot identify the shed frame, or you plan to hang a mattock or a ladder above a vehicle, get a competent person to specify the support.

What to leave off this wall

Indoor drill racks should stay with drills. The compact Yeabett and both KAFAHOM listings state indoor use, even though one KAFAHOM bullet mentions a shed. They offer slots and shelves, not secure positions for long handles. BILIONE claims indoor and outdoor use, and the layout is still a power-tool rack. A pegboard or a bin wall can hold secateurs, gloves and packets. Broad rakes and heavy spades need more space. INCLY says not drywall. PAFEN has no clear indoor-or-outdoor line, and reviews mention flex when bins are overfilled. Broom-gripper clips are not in this comparison. They clamp a handle rather than hanging it on an open hook. Compare them separately if smooth handles slide off. The best tool wall guide also names choices for drills and hand tools. Zacurter belongs here because of its shape and its outdoor listing, not because 150 lb has been tested.

Common questions

Is the Zacurter rail suitable outdoors?
The amazon.co.uk specification marks it for outdoor use, and the material is described as powder-coated metal. That does not establish a coating standard or remove the need to inspect it. Mount it to a suitable structure, avoid trapping wet tools against it, and deal with corrosion if it appears.
Which load figure should I use for Housolution?
The listing’s 570 lb and 19.95 kg figures are unresolved and cannot both describe the same limit. Do not select the larger value or average them. Base the installation on documented limits for the wall and the fixings, keep loads conservative, and ask the seller for clarification if capacity is what decides the purchase.
Can I fix a rail to a thin shed wall?
Do not rely on thin sheet material unless you have evidence that it is structural. Some sheds need a timber batten secured across uprights, and the correct design depends on the frame and the load. If you cannot locate sound support, have the installation assessed before you hang tools.
How many hooks do I need?
Count the positions each real tool occupies, not just the handles. Wide rake heads may block adjacent hooks, and some awkward tools may need two support points. Add a small allowance for realistic growth, and keep enough spacing to remove one item without dislodging another.
Where should the heaviest tool sit?
Keep it low and away from a route where it could strike someone or damage a vehicle. The hook must fit the tool, and the wall fixing must be specified for the load. A very heavy mattock may warrant floor storage or a purpose-made support instead of an open hook.
