Plastic wheelie bin store

Updated: October 2026

A plastic wheelie bin store can hide bins neatly, but fits two bins is meaningless until the litre size and footprint are named. In this comparison, Keter and Duramax claim space for two 120 litre bins, while Olsen & Smith names two 180 litre slimline bins. None promises two 240 litre council bins. Use the [plastic tool shed comparison](/hub/tool-accessories/tool-shed-plastic) to see the four listings, then measure your own bins with their lids closed. Manufacturers and councils use different shapes, so a capacity label alone cannot establish fit. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

120 L, 180 L and 240 L use different footprints

Published 120 litre bins commonly measure about 475–480 mm wide, 543–553 mm deep and 927–940 mm high. A typical 240 litre bin is much deeper: Islington Council gives 575 × 730 × 1,060 mm, while other published examples reach about 580 × 740 × 1,100 mm. That additional depth is the decisive difference for these shallow stores. The 180 litre category is less consistent. Some council and manufacturer sheets show a narrow bin around 480 mm wide but 720–730 mm deep. Slimline is not a single British Standard footprint. Measure each bin at its widest and deepest points, including wheels, axle, handles and lid hinge. The buying guide covers listing contradictions and location checks beyond bin fit.

What each listing actually promises

The Keter Store It Out Nova claims 880 litres and names two 120 litre bins. Its stated internal size is 122 × 61 × 108.8 cm. A 120 litre bin around 55 cm deep can plausibly fit within 61 cm, subject to handles and the door opening. A 240 litre bin around 73–74 cm deep cannot fit that internal depth without alteration. The Duramax StoreAway title also names two 120 litre bins. Its external depth is 74 cm, but no internal dimensions are stated, and an internal space must be smaller than the outside. One UK reviewer says a 240 litre bin did not fit. Both Olsen & Smith listings claim two 180 litre slimline bins and 775 litres. Their external depth is about 71 cm, with one listing printing conflicting dimension lines. A 180 litre design around 72–73 cm deep is already a concern before wall thickness and doors are considered. One reviewer on each Olsen ASIN says the bins they owned did not fit.

Why a 240 L bin usually fails here

Depth rules these products out before capacity does. The Nova gives the clearest calculation: roughly 730 mm for a common 240 litre bin against 610 mm of internal store depth. Its 1,088 mm internal height also leaves little or no margin for 240 litre bins published at 1,060–1,100 mm high. The Duramax is 740 mm deep outside, so its usable internal depth must be less. Its review evidence includes a failed 240 litre fit. Olsen’s roughly 710 mm external depth gives the same warning, even before a specific internal measurement is available. Cutting the plastic floor is not a sound workaround. Removing part of a structural floor can weaken the box, create sharp edges, admit pests or water and affect warranty rights. If your measured 240 litre bin is too large, buy a purpose-made deeper bin store rather than modifying one designed around smaller formats.

Smell, lids and daily use

These boxes can screen bins from view, but no listing provides a seal or odour-control rating. They have panel joins, doors and ventilation gaps, so they should not be expected to stop smells created inside a dirty bin. Bag waste securely, clean spills and follow council guidance. Check the daily movement as well as static fit. You need enough room to open the store, lift its lid where applicable, release the bin lid and roll the bin over the threshold without scraping. The Nova and Olsen products provide twin doors and a lifting lid; Olsen also claims gas assistance. A narrow side return may prevent full door travel even when the box itself fits the ground. For a conditional product choice, see the best plastic tool shed guide. For construction, the assembly guide explains levelling and anchoring.

Common questions

Will two 240 litre bins fit the Nova?
No, not on the stated dimensions. A common 240 litre bin is about 730–740 mm deep, while the Nova’s internal depth is 610 mm. Its listing names two 120 litre bins instead. Measure your bins, but do not buy the Nova expecting two standard 240 litre council bins.
What does two 120 litre bins mean?
It means the claim is limited to the smaller format. Published 120 litre examples are often around 475–480 mm wide and 543–553 mm deep, though manufacturers vary. Confirm the exact width, depth, height and handle shape of both bins before relying on the claim.
Is every 180 litre bin slimline?
No. Published 180 litre designs vary considerably, and slimline is not one guaranteed footprint. Some are narrow but still around 720–730 mm deep. Compare your actual measurements with verified internal store dimensions and allow clearance for doors, wheels and lids.
Will the store stop bin smells?
There is no evidence of a sealed or odour-rated enclosure here. A plastic store can hide bins and may reduce direct sun, but smells still escape through joins and doors. Keep bin lids closed, bag waste properly and clean residue rather than relying on the outer box.
How much clearance is needed above the lid?
Enough for both the store lid and bin lid to complete their normal movement without hitting a wall, fence or overhang. No universal figure is stated. Measure from the ground through the full opening arc at your chosen site before ordering.
Can I remove or cut the floor for a taller bin?
That is not recommended. Cutting can reduce rigidity, create water and pest routes, and undermine a warranty claim. A reviewer’s modification is not a manufacturer-approved method. Choose a deeper or taller purpose-made bin store if the original dimensions do not work.
