Wireless dimmer switch UK: match the type before you buy

Updated: October 2026

A search for a wireless dimmer switch in the UK returns a wall plate, a sticky pad, a radio module, and a 12 V controller in the same list. Those are four products. A match means the voltage class, the lamp, the neutral, and the protocol agree with the circuit you already have. The [wireless dimmer comparison](/hub/swimming-pools/wireless-dimmer) holds the nine amazon.co.uk listings we kept. This checklist tells you which box fails before a star line becomes a ranking. The Products Compared editorial team read those listings and public UK guidance on 16 October 2026 and did not run a lab test. Four products share the name

A wireless dimmer switch on UK pages is usually one of four things in this capture. An in-wall smart plate, such as the SONOFF Orb-DIM, the Orb-ZBDIM, or the BSEED 86 mm glass plate. A kinetic pad with a wired receiver, the ECO-NEWLEAF kit. A 433 MHz mains module and remote, the Tedeligo kits. A low-voltage controller for LED tape, a different job, on the guide to dimming an LED strip. Tedeligo and the ECO-NEWLEAF pad are proprietary 433 MHz. The Matter and Zigbee plates talk to an app, and their titles require a neutral. Shelf prices on 16 October 2026 sit in rough bands of about £8–£10, about £18–£19, and about £26–£29. If you cannot say which of the four you are holding, stop at the voltage line.

Voltage class comes before the brand

UK mains lighting is 230 V. A constant-voltage LED strip is not. The driver holds 12 V or 24 V, and a trailing-edge dimmer in front of an ordinary driver does not dim the tape. The SONOFF Orb-DIM table shows 240 V, the Orb-ZBDIM table shows 220 V, and ECO-NEWLEAF shows 240 V. Tedeligo bullets say 220–250 V, and the one-module table also prints 110 V. That clash is a reason to stop, not a figure to average. SIRYYUI, Taoellen, and NiuLumea print DC volts. A GU10 on a listing that says 12–24 V is the wrong object. Trailing edge is the usual approach for a dimmable LED, and it still fails if the packet does not say dimmable. The ECO-NEWLEAF bullet is the clearest band here: 4–100 W of dimmable LED, or 200 W of incandescent or halogen. Do not copy another maker's band onto a listing that prints something else.

Neutral, hub, and the lamp's minimum load

Most older UK switches have no neutral at the plate. That does not transfer to a title that requires one. The SONOFF Orb-DIM, the Orb-ZBDIM, and the BSEED plate all say a neutral is required. Live, switched live, and earth only means those three plates are the wrong buy. A no-neutral Matter dimmer exists elsewhere. It is not one of these nine listings. The Orb-ZBDIM is a repeater, not a hub, and the BSEED bullet says a Zigbee 3.0 hub sold separately. The app-versus-pad choice is on the smart dimmer or kinetic pad page. If the lamps sit under the minimum that dimmer prints, the usual result is flicker, a glow when off, or a snap between on and off. ECO-NEWLEAF's floor is 4 W. Tedeligo's bullet floor is 10 W. BSEED prints a 5 W LED minimum and, in the same table, 2,000 W. When the listing's own numbers disagree, you stop.

Plate, box, and the lines that disagree

A UK plate switch is a square of about 86 mm on a square pattress. The SONOFF Orbs are 86 × 86 mm on the specification line and round in the UK reviews. Reviewers say the plate falls into a standard metal box. One used a 35 mm box. Another found the Matter body easier in a 25 mm box. The BSEED plate here is 86 mm glass, 40 mm deep, so it matches the square and will not vanish into a shallow plasterboard box. ECO-NEWLEAF prints IP66 in the table and IP65 in a bullet, and one UK review says the pad is not waterproof. A plain 433 MHz handset sits outside the UK connectable-product rules in force for network products since 29 April 2024. The SONOFF and BSEED plates are network products. If this checklist fails, fitting will not rescue the listing. The stop-rules are on the page about fitting a wireless dimmer.

Common questions

Do I have a neutral at the switch?
Look in the pattress before you order a plate whose title says a neutral is required. Older UK lighting switches often have live, switched live, and earth only. A blue sleeve on a black or brown conductor is not automatically a neutral. The SONOFF and BSEED titles in this comparison require a neutral. A no-neutral module from another brand does not change those titles.
Will a trailing-edge dimmer run my LED lamps?
Only if the lamp packet says dimmable, and only inside the wattage band that dimmer prints. The ECO-NEWLEAF bullet is trailing edge, 4–100 W of dimmable LED or 200 W of filament lamps. A lamp that is not marked dimmable can refuse to fade even when the pad clicks. Use the band on the listing you are buying, not a number copied from another maker's page.
What if the lamps sit under the minimum load?
The lamp often flickers, stays dimly lit when the switch is off, or jumps between on and off. A published floor on a dimmer that is not in this set only shows what a stated minimum looks like. It is not a figure you can paste onto Tedeligo, SONOFF, or BSEED. If the minimum on your listing is above the total wattage of the lamps, this checklist has already failed.
Can I put a strip controller on UK mains?
No. SIRYYUI, Taoellen, and NiuLumea are DC controllers for tape after a driver. Connecting one across 230 V is the wrong voltage class. A mains trailing-edge dimmer on the input of an ordinary constant-voltage driver usually leaves the strip at full brightness, because the driver holds its output voltage steady.
Does a 433 MHz remote show up in Alexa?
Not by itself. Tedeligo's title says no Wi-Fi, and the ECO-NEWLEAF kit in this set has no app. Some other brands sell a kinetic pad whose receiver is Wi-Fi or Zigbee, so the pad feels smart because the receiver is the network product. That third path is not one of the nine listings kept here. If you want voice control, you are on the neutral-and-app side of the fork.
Does Part P stop me swapping a switch in England?
A like-for-like replacement outside a bath or shower location is often non-notifiable in England and Wales, and the work still has to meet BS 7671. A new circuit, work at the consumer unit, or work in a bath or shower location is the notification line in Approved Document P. Scotland uses building standards. Northern Ireland has no Part P equivalent. A 230 V plate still sits outside bathroom zones, at least 0.6 m from the bath or shower.
