Floating or submersible pool lights

Updated: October 2026

You are choosing between a light that drifts and a light you sink, and the titles make them sound like two brightness settings. They are not. Floating or submersible pool lights, in the seven listings on our [pool lights](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-light) page, fail in different ways. A floater is easy to lift. A puck fails at glue, suction, and seals. IP codes and SELV are on the [pool lights buying guide](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-light/sub/pool-light-buying-guide). Charging and closing are on [how to use pool lights](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-light/sub/pool-light-how-to-use). Peter F. checked the listings in October 2026. This is not a laboratory test. They are not two versions of one lamp

A floating light lives on the surface. You can reach it, press it, and take it out. A submersible puck is a housed LED you lower, and the control path often stops at the surface. In this capture the floaters are the MR.HOKWY, B0CQV555MK, and the VISOFO, B09NVT8F6N. The under-water group is the daphomeu pair, B0BXD57DV7, the vsshe packs, B0F87S4684 and B0H6PJJXCW, and the Vicloon pair, B0FB8YG8LP. The NATPOW kit, B0CQYC85DJ, is neither. It is a cabled spotlight string, and the adapter is meant to stay dry. If both feel too slight for swimming after dark, a fixed SELV luminaire is the exit, not a dearer puck from the same shelf.

When a floating light is enough

Choose a floater when you will not glue, you can accept a glow rather than a beam, and you will take the light out. The MR.HOKWY is the best value at £10.99, with 4.1 from 56 reviews, all 14 captured blocks from the United Kingdom. It claims IP67 and takes three AAA cells. The bullet says let it float rather than sink it. Reviews describe water inside and failures within about four uses or four weeks. IP67 there is not permission to sink it. The VISOFO is £39.99, stated at 10–15 lumens, one solar piece. amazon.co.uk shows 3.9 from 349 reviews, but only four of 50 captured blocks are from the United Kingdom. UK notes call it dim, and say the picture looks like three while the box has one. Skip it for swimming. Neither floater is safer than a puck. They are easier to remove.

When a submersible puck is the point

Go under the water when the light has to stay put, and when you will manage a seal and a mount that may fail. The daphomeu pair is the top pick: £8.43, 4.0 from 607 reviews, 100 lumens stated, no IP number. It can sit on the bottom. The suction cups do not hold a wall. The remote stops once it is submerged. It is a floor light for a tub, not a fitting. The vsshe two-pack is £20.99 and the four-pack is £28.99, both claiming IP68 and 800 lumens with no depth. The UK review text is shared, so do not add the counts. The Vicloon pair is £29.99, 4.6 from 57 reviews, 120 lumens, and a pad that comes unstuck. The NATPOW string is not a fallback puck. It is mains, and UK reviews include a burnt transformer.

The choice, with one condition

If you will not mount anything, buy the MR.HOKWY and follow the float-only line, knowing reviews report water inside. Choose the VISOFO only for one dim solar piece at £39.99. If the light must stay put, the Vicloon pair is the hot-tub match, with the pad as the weakness, and the vsshe packs are the adhesive option on one shared review file. The daphomeu pair is the inexpensive floor try. Its top-pick badge is a rating rule, not a dry-seal award. If you need to see the floor well enough to swim, neither side is the product. Do not sink the disco light to split the difference. Which named row fits a hot tub is on best pool lights.

Common questions

When is a floating light the right buy?
When you want colour on the surface, you will not glue a wall, and you can live with drift. In this set that is the MR.HOKWY at £10.99, with a float-only bullet, or the VISOFO at £39.99 if 10–15 lumens and one solar piece are enough. UK reviews on the MR.HOKWY still include water inside, so be ready to lift it. A floater is wrong if the light has to stay aimed at a step or a seat.
When do you want the light under the water?
When a surface glow is not the effect, and you will set the mode before the housing goes down. The daphomeu pair sits on the floor at £8.43 and 100 lumens stated, with a remote that fails under water. Vicloon and vsshe are the rechargeable versions, with adhesive that buyers resist. Go under only if you will manage the seal and the mount. If you will not, stay with a floater.
Can you sink the disco light?
The listing tells you not to. The MR.HOKWY bullet says let it float rather than sink it, beside an IP67 claim. Sinking it to chase a stronger colour ignores that line. UK reviews already describe housings full of water and units that stopped after a few uses or a few weeks. IP67 there is not a depth you can invent. If you need the floor, use a puck sold to go down, and accept that puck’s own seal complaints.
Will a solar flame light the pool for swimming?
No. The VISOFO states 10–15 lumens, and the title is one piece. A UK review says the picture looks like three. The star line is 3.9 from 349, with only four of 50 captured blocks from the United Kingdom. UK notes call it dim. Non-UK comments about full darkness are not UK opinion. Swimming light is a fixed luminaire, not this floater.
Which under-water lights avoid disposable batteries?
The vsshe packs and the Vicloon pair. Both are USB or magnetically charged, and both claim IP68 without a depth. The Vicloon remote still needs AAA cells. The daphomeu pair takes three AAA batteries in the light. Avoiding a battery door helps only if you close the charge path on dry ground and you accept glue or a pad. Among floaters, the MR.HOKWY uses AAA cells and the VISOFO is solar.
